What's the Highest Ticket You've Gotten Away With?
240hoke replied to zeeboost's topic in Non Tech Board
had my 18 over dropped to 9. I recommend a laywer. -Austin -
Ok i got this crazy idea, that i might consider doing once i get all the bugs outta my engine. Ive been looking at the thunderbird SC's on ebay and they seem to be really affordable. Anyway Im thinking supercharger and turbo If it wasnt too big to mount on a plate around the smog pump area. I guess it all depends on if it will interfer with the turbocharger. Anyway if a turbo car is setup properly it wouldnt be any trouble to hook up the SC, i wouldnt think the fuel curves would have to be changed much, The outlet pipe could jsut be t'd into the i/c pipe before the i/c. Anyway one question is can a SC be hooked up with a reguler v-belt setup? i dont really know anything about superchargers -Austin

I can get you some stuff as soon as this dang ice clears out. Do they have to have sound or are you going to be putting music over them? beucase short videos can be taken with a regular digi camera w/o sounds. I can do the sound thing but the DVD camcorder is just alot more of a hassle

My interioir lights and parking lights wont turn on every now and again. But the headlights will work. I just have to reach down and roll the fuses, lol, then everything works. The fuse box had some corrision there and I cleaned it all out nice changed the fuse etc, but it did the same thing after about a month. Im used to it now -Austin

Sme frustrated rambling The cops are on a rampage around here. They have speed traps everywhere. Coming home from school today in our 300zx I got pulled for no reason whatsoever he followed me for a while and then pulled me to check my lisence and registration. Then I saw (2) more undercover cops on the rest of my joyous trip. Yesterday there was a cop sitting out on the road in front of my house. I think its time for a radar dectector... But anyway just got some good news today. Last november I got a speeding ticket doing 18 over coming home from school back through the country. Anyway a sherrif in an unmarked car pulled me. Didnt get slowed down enough arghh.... But at anyrate my lawyer got it reduced to 9 over and nothing goes on my insurance.... wooohhooo... Anyway just wanted to pass on always get a lawyer to fight your ticket! chances are it'll be reduced or dropped. -Austin

What about a air-water intercooler. i have seen some setups in maximum boost that really interested me. The water to air intercoolers can be made very small and could be placed inside the engine bay. You could then run water line to the front to some small water coolers. In maximum boost if i remember correctly they did this in a BMW and it looked very trick. I think and air-water ic could be incorperated into a custom intake mani... anyway just a thought. -Austin

Thanks for the comments guys, Im almost finished, Im really digging the black powder and cermaic pipes i cant wait to get it out in the sunlight and get some pics. Installed a Walboro pump per Slownrusty's post and also a Fram fuel filter. Pretty much just have to pick up some fuel line and im ready to go. Gonna try and get it running tomarrow afternoon, I'll get some finished pics up then. S30Z - I had the downpipe made at a local exhaust shop. I had to take them the mandrel bent stainless and they welded it up for me ( (2) 2.5" 45* mandrels). they did a good job with it, If you go this route though make sure they understand what you want them to do, you may want to be there when they are doing it. Thats what i did. PETEW - I mde the distributer cap out of a small sheet of aluminum i got from the hardware store. Its about 1/16" i just traced the gasket and cut it out. havent had any problems or leaks out of it. Ill shoot you a photo tomarrow. My dad got me interested in cars as when I was younger he was always fixing them up. I always liked the 240z, and when I turned 15 me and my dad got this car. I havent stopped tinkering with it since. As far as the mechanical knowledge i have learned so far Ive spent countless hours on this site reading up on differnt things and also on zcar.com. Read alot too: to how to rebuilt your datsun nissan OHC engine and Maximun boost are good stuff. I like this site alot becasue its so informative and not full of lots of little maintanence issues. With the first go around on the turbo motor, I knew absolutly nothing about motors and just kinda dove in lol, same with the suspension. ScottieGNZ's Turbo car was a big influence on my first project. I like working with cars so much I am planning on doing somthing related in college, my plan now is to major in mechanical engineering. But enough rambling lol... For the engine managment Im running SDS EM4-6F. Kudos to SDS to being easy to get in touch with and always willing to help out. Main problem I have had is not being able to rev the car over 5k, a problem which has been there since day one. Hopefully it will be fixed this go around.... Anyway, Hopefully it'll be alive tomarrow. -Austin

hers a pic, its 95% done. Got some loose ends to wrap up but it should be running thursday. The black doesnt tkae well in the garage light but oh well tell me what ya think... -Austin

Got my parts back from the coaters. They messed up my I/C pipes and did them in cermacrome in stead of black. But i think It will look cool, they knocked 50 bucks off the price anyhow . Didnt get much time to work on it tonight but here a pic of the valve cover and manifold just sitting there. Im outta school tomarrow so I should be able to get the engine pretty much done... heres the wastegate mount i made out of some 16 gauge sheetmetal... -Austin

hey guys thanks for the comments, drax -- The exhaust amnifold and turbo are painted with eastwood's high temperture exhaust manifold paint. I ran it on my last turbo for a year and it seemed to hold up very good. Just a little bit came off at the very top along the flange. customlock -- I see where your coming from, my setup doesnt look very strong.... i wouldn't want to pick the engine up by it. But I think that It is more then adaquate for the task. I have looked at many different ways to mount the trigger and considered running a setup like the guy in SportZ did. But i came to the conclusion this is the best route. If I am still having the ignition issue i will beef up the bracket. IMO this bracket would be bullet proff with thicker spacers. I'll keep you informed with the results though. Heading out to pick up my valve cover/ intake mani/ ic pipes right now. I'll get some more pics up tonight... im gettin excited

Hey guys, Just thought I would share some pictures of my progress over the past couple weeks. Blew the #1 piston 2 weeks before christmas. Since then Ive replaced the piston(oem), honed the cylinders, and replaced all the rings. Also upgraded to a t3/t4 turbo, europulley and a few other goodies. I should have some more pictures tomarrow, still waiting on parts to come back from the powdercoaters. Also a note to you guys using sds. With my last setup i couldn't rev the car over 5k, at which point the ignition would go crazy. this is what caused the piston failure. Anyway to try and solve this I have upgraded to a new pulley (to eliminate any play) and also used a lathe to scrib the circle in the pulley. Another thing is noticed is when I went to the europulley it gave the magnet mounting circle a radius of ~4" the magnets take up a much greater % of the arc then they did on the stock 280zxt pulley which had a radius closer to 7". Therefore magnets are seen for a greater period. Anyhow, I guess this is all specualtion right now, but I got my hopes up I'll be hitting 7K. Anyway hope you enjoy! -Austin

: ok dropped : Im still offended though "Do it now generation" I'd like to know what generation you came from. Man that blue 240 is absolutly gorgeous, love the wheels and the color. Im really loving the mettalic blue with gunmetal rims. I think I may go that route with my car when I get it painted. -Austin

i think ive decided against the porshe pump, they wanted to much for it (200!). After seeing slownrusty's post about the holley I think I will be ordering that one. Its no biggie if it doesnt fitt the stock braket, dont let that scare you, you can get pump mounting brackets from summit or jegs. Drill a couple holes and you're done. -Austin

My Turbo Fuel Pump Upgrade - Pics & Write Up
240hoke replied to slownrusty's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
Awesome post! sounds good i think I'll be ordering mine tomarrow! btw what are the inlet and outlet sizes? -Austin -
Aight Ive been following along on the Fuel pump topic thats farther down, and since my MSD fuel pump officially crapped out on me when i tried replacing the stud in it I decided to get new pump. Sounds like the Porshe 944t pump is the way to go. Has anybody had any expirence with buying a pump from Advance or other part store chains? i checked with advance today and they could have me a new pump tomarrow(im assuming thats it the bosch unit). So anyway heres my question: Do i need to run a damper in-line?, I know that with my MSD pump it wasn't nessacary, but is this a different type of pump? If i do need one where can i get it? Also if any knows off the top of their head, what are the inlet and outlet hose sizes? -Austin

Aight I'll top those. I ride bike trials (not motorcycle trials, but bike trials) and anyway I have a little funky 20" mod bike. The freewheel is in the front and the chain always spins. The bike also has almost no seat and when you do sit its so low you cant pedal and your hands can almost touch the ground. Anyway so Im riding home and the chain is loose from hitting it on some walls and i just kinda slapped it to see how bad it was(stupid) the chain grabbed my glove and ripped my finger around the sproket under the chain. Needless to say I spent 2 hours in surgery and my pointer finger is now .5" shorter.

Help with new Tokico Shocks & Springs
240hoke replied to allenrayn's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Hey, I my springs are a different type and they were also shorter. I decided to wire them in just in case. I just use some steel wire and drilled two holes in the bottom of hte lower spring perch and wired the spring in. Keeps them from moveing around while your gettin everything back together and if you should unload it while driving they shouldnt shift, my 2 cents. -
Thanks for the replies guys Should be getting the parts back tomarrow. I post some pics as to how they turned out. Also have the engine in and getting the exhaust DP modded to fit the new turbo as we speak. So should be well on my way tomarrow. I really like how the black block looks doesnt make the little things stand out as much. I prolly should have checked out the other colors, but i figured I couldnt really go wrong with black. Well see soon. Not to bigg of a deal to have it changed anyway. Just takes a long time. Anybody used the do-it-yourself powdercoaters, like waht eastwood sells. Ive always wanted to try one but didnt know if they really worked. -Austin

240hoke replied to z-ya's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I really like gunmetal wheels, but not on a silver car. I think they look dirty like was mentioned. I like gunmetal wheels on darker cars like green or metallic blue. But its up to you both look nice! -Austin -
hey, Almost got my engine back together, going the the exhaust shop tommarrow to have a new flange welded on to the downpipe. Got one more thing to do before the turbo is all ready: need to mount the wastegate actuator. Any tips on doing this? It is a dual port adjustable type. i guess my main question is how to tell how close it needs to be, becasue with the adjustable pushrod should it be mounted where it is tight fully extended, halfway in? -Austin

Hey TonyD good suggestions. Wish I would have thought about that. I went ahead an had them do the vavle cover and intake wrinkle black and the I/C pipes in flat black ceramic. Should be finshed somtime this week. Man o man Im getting stoked, about to have the car back together, hopefully this week... anyway ill post pics in a few days -Austin
