OFFICE SPACE. Definitly my pick for the best movie of all time.
-
I went ahead a put them in, they all had a gap of about .020 - .021" so im hoping they will be alright. ive almost got hte engine ready to go in the car, should be running in a week or so -Austin

They are just two generic electric fans, I bought them at BSR i believe they are 10" fans maybe 12"'s. Anyway, pretty simple to hook up, i just used a auto relay from radioshack (30 amps i think) and a cheap thermostat switch from napa to run the grounds to the relay. The fans seem to draw alot of power though when they kick in. I can hear a noticable change in the fuel pump sound lol. -Austin

PBR Calipers and large rotors...
240hoke replied to Mikelly's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
hey, yeah over 20 lbs. mainly due to the aluminum hubs which weigh 4.5 lbs a piece. The aluminum calipers are also very light I dont know the weight off hand i'd have to look through my notes, but they are ALOT lighter then the 4 pot toyota calipers! -
I dont have a factory manual, but I have the "how to rebuild your datsun/nissan engine" book. It specifies a gap of ~.014", and that between .012"-.017" is tolerable. Just curious if anybody else has used these pregaps rings with .020" tolerances and what there expiriences have been, I mean like i mentioned earlier the old rings were gapped this way so i think that i will be fine. I m thinking about going ahead and putting in the pistons. -Austin

Aight guys, i slid a couple of my old rings in there (6K miles) and they also have ~.020" clearences. I searched around on zcar.com and found that some others had had this same issue with pre-fit rings. Also got a mix of replies, some suggested not to use them while others said they were fine. I know that my car ran fine before and that It wasnt using any oil. I had minor blowby but nothing excessive. Also one question to add in here, what are you guys reading for your compression on a stock l28et? im gettting 155psi. What would you guys do? -Austin

Hey guys, I got a set of Hastings rings from Topend Performance for my enigne. I was getting ready to put everything back together and checked the ring gaps. They seem to be very excessive, all with a gap of .020-.021". According to the little equation .004"Xdiameter the l28 should have a gap of .014". I have also checked the bore and it came out dead on (3.386", I believe) I searched on the 6 cylinder tech board and found one other guy that had this exact problem with beck-arnley(sp?) rings. There was only one reply to the post so i thought i would try here. what do you guys think, do I need a new set? or is .020" tolerable? Thanks

PBR Calipers and large rotors...
240hoke replied to Mikelly's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Hey guys, My friend has just finished his C5 brake upgrade on his 240z. the rest of the car isnt quite finshed so it isnt on the road yet but its almost done. i know that hte 13" brake setup would not clear 16" panasports and he had to go with 17's. I am using his old C4 brake upgrade on my car with aluminum hubs up front, i am very happy with this setup and may be more practicle for the Z. Overall shaved more than 20lbs off the front. I posted some pictures of both the C5 and C4 swap in the public gallery heres a teaser; -
I thought it was funny how they were trying to shift the blame to the police officer who was chasing him saying that he shouldnt have done so. So i guess cops aren't supposed to stop people in stolen cars that are speeding, and if the cops did and they tried to and get away is the cop supposed to give up?!?! Also how would a cop know if they were underage or kids? i will say though in davidson the cops are going crazy, we have a new police cheif who is all crazy, we have lots of new cops, crime scene ivestigation vans, and hes trying to buy a hummer and a chopper. This is for a litttle samll town!! They have also launched a campaign agaisnt speeders to "improve the quality of life" which is ridiculous, we have super low speed limits as it is. I was behind a school bus doing 40 in a 25 those are the people they need to stop. I got an 18 over, guess i kinda deserved that one lol. But enough of my ranting... Hey tdab, just what G-town are you located in?

it shouldnt be too hard, but I wouldnt bother with it. I would look for an N42 intake manifold off an early 280z, they came from the factory without webbing. The webbed intake is actually to heat dissapate heat from the intake. i sraped it though, it has alot of emissions on it and is just plain ugly. Go for the N42, it will really clean up your engine bay. i picked one up for $50 with the whole works injectors tb and all. -Austin

Getting to 250hp is easy on a turbo motor i think most would agree. Its going to take a good fuel pump and set of 370cc injectors (or adjustable fuel pressure regulator if you choose) and a boost controller. Thats it... V8 is going to be alot more work as far as swaping in the engine as it takes alot more modifications, im talking out my rear here because ive never done a v8 swap but most stuff is going to be mounting it etc, motor mounts tranny mounts, driveshaft, etc. A turbo engine bolts in and most of the work is in the wiring harness. I love my turbo Z, and like many before have said BOOST is FUN and ADDICTIVE. I think youll be happy either way.

am i making a mistake doing everything black, whats you guys opinions? its not too late for me too change it now. Sorry for the rambling but i just cant make up my mind, i havent seen to many others z's to put just whats its going to look like in my head, I was going to try and go for a black out look on this engine but im not too sure. Here's what it looked like before, butr the polishing was crude and i hate having to keep up with it anyway.....

Well i took my vavle cover and intake manifold over to have them powder coated wrinkle black. i was planning on doing the i/c piping the same color, but the guys there wanted to do them in ceramic insead not just becasue they can see high temps but it would also help keep them from soaking in heat. Would you? a.) powder coat them wrinkle black to match b.) ceramic coat them silver c.) ceramic coat them black -Austin

My '74 260zt has been my daily driver since i got my liscense. Only a year lol. The thrill of driving it makes up for the lack of creature comforts. I drive my Z unless im working on it, which seems to be alot recently. I should definitly be in the 12's when im done with this go around on the engine. i drive the family's 1990 300zx N/A its a really nice car for driving has grteat handling, but boy does it make the 260 feel fast!

t3/t4 stage V (a gift to myself!), europulley, rings, a new piston, modded gas tank, lowering springs, and some candy

thats what I do. I put out my parts in front of a little electric heater for a while and then spray them (turn the heater off!) and bake em sommmore with the heater. Ive been using the spray on high heat engine enamels and they have been working great takes them about 20 min to be dry to the touch. -Austin

Hey guys on my new turbo the puck for the wastegate housing is ~1 3/8" inches wide and the hole in the turbo is ~7/8" wide. Top-end recommended me port this out a bit to ward any boost creep etc. Any precaution I should take while doing this, or would you recommend it? Also can anybody help my with hooking up a dual port wastgate actuator using a manual boost controller, this topic is not mentioned in corky's book and i cant find anything in the archives about hooking one up thanks -Austin
-
Hey, I cant give you any advice on how well that will work, but when looking for any diesel truck I/C like that look around for a local junkyard that deals with those types of trucks. I found a local guy that just deals with mitsu's and izusu's and other cab over type trucks. Anyway he had lots of I/C's mainly mitsu's for 100 bucks. he only had one NPR though I got it for 200. At anyrate what im saying is ebay might not be the best bargin, because its being sold as a performance part. -Austin

Well right now i think my injectors are going to max out around 325 hp, prolly push more with an adjustable FPR. Going for about 350hp. But this turbo should be able to flow the air for more hp should the need arise Anybody got some ideas on hooking up the wastegate? -Austin

hey guys, Just got my turbo, euro pulley, and rings in today from topend performance. Im about ready to get this engine put back together but having to wait on the machine shop to swap over my new piston and then were gong to have the SDS magnets put in just perfect! The turbo is a T3/T4 Super-H Stage 5 .82. Also came with a dual port wastgate actuator, somebody's gonna have to explain how this works to me i cant find my corky bell book. i found one older topic on it, but still kinda confused i was just using a HBC with my old wastegate. Hopefully I'll be able to max out my SVO injectors with this baby! heres the pictures: I also hear its a good idea to go ahead and port out the wastegate hole alittle bit, any tips on this or is it asa simple as it seems? -Austin

Have To Upgrade The Fuel Pump On My L28ET - Recommendations?

Im using the MSD pump, workin good for me so far. What kind of outlet does the 280zx tank have? -Austin -
i got rid of the entire vapor system in my car. i just JB welde the holes that i didnt want to use on the tank and ran vents to the outside. Worked fine for me Ive got a new tank now though with all the holes soldered shut and a modified pickup for EFI, getting ready to put it in this week. 280z gas tank is really the way to go though -Austin
