  1. My browser is playing up and I just lost my long reply. In short: My car is not finished. The RB30 is one of the most developed motor in the australian aftermarket industry, you will have no problems finding off the shelf forged pistons. I am using OEM internals as these have been proven to be plenty strong for up to around 300rwkw+, it is more about tuning then forged internals. Forums at skylinesaustralia.com have an 80 page thread dedicated to the RB30DET. Good straight Z's are rare and expensive and have been for the last couple years in Australia. 280Z was only sold in the USA
  2. where did you get a 280Z from in Australia? I am doing this conversion into a 260Z. You will need custom mounts everywhere, as well as tail shaft and sump. Clearances are not and issue as your custom mounts will position things wherever you want. Look at the hundred other RB threads in this forum, search funtion will help. You will need adequate suspension and big brakes to make it safe/roadworthy and you will also need to work on your chassis to remove any rust and strengthen it to stop the torque from twisting your car apart. It is very expensive and time consuming, make sure you have the budget to finish before you start.
  3. Also is it a must to use a matching pump to the rack (subaru -> subaru), or just an OEM pump for the motor (nissan -> subaru).
  4. has anyone taken photos of the crx/civic blower swap? I have found these photos of the 88-91 blower, I assume the colour doesnt matter or does it inicate a different model Thanks
  5. http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=PWC Has anybody used or seen or heard anything about this kit? I am going to order some weather seals and thought since i am paying for international postage, I may as well buy up everything remotely interesting. Thanks James
  6. OK, maybe it is offset more for the RHD model. What year and model is your Subaru rack? Thanks for your help and photos, I will pick up a rack and take photos as well when I get back home from Japan next month. Thanks 8)
  7. Thanks for the pics, however I was under the impression the crossmember did not need to be cut to fit the subaru rack, yet you have cut it in several places. The one that would be the biggest concern to me is the chunk taken out of the engine mount support. Also I wonder how crucial the actual positioning of the rack is from left to right in relation to the steering system geometry? Thanks
  8. Is there any chance of a brief "how to" and any traps found. Also updated links ot the pictures would be great Thanks
  9. Thanks for the advice, as far as "try it first", i think making the wrong mounts for the sake of trying it could be a costly excercise.
  10. Thanks guys, From this I am assuming that engine mounts based on ZX items and a gearbox crossmember based on a ZX transmission tunnel will NOT be suitable for a 240/260Z. correct?
  11. Hi all, I need to know whether the 280ZX and 260Z/240Z share the same engine mounts and gearbox/crossmember mounts. I am having custom engine mounts made and gearbox crossmember made to suit an RB motor BUT the builder accidently got in a 280ZX dummy car for my 260Z. Please let me know ASAP if this will work if you can Thanks
  12. sounds great. Spent all day debugging the wiring on another 260Z I bought and I seriously feel like ripping it out and starting again.
  13. They are a very decent unit for the price but for a little bit more you could get a better ecu like the haltech e6k or for a fair bit more autronic and motec. While the wolf is pretty good, I would not put in on level with the autronic SMC
  14. Thanks Dare I ask the fuel economy of some of you guys running turbo L28's
  15. 450rwhp = 330rwkw = some serious power! do people have L28's putting that kind of power down? The fastest car i know locally has around mid 200rwkw and is already netting a very low 12 second 1/4 which is more than I could hope for for a daily driver. Thanks guys
  16. at what power levels does the stock manifold become an issue and why? Thanks
  17. Thanks, I am on my second wheel now and I think it should see me through, if not a maximum of 3 will be used as I am, well over half way now. They are only $25AUD each so it not a huge issue, probably converts to around $13US. The only problem I have which you hit on the head is patience, or perhaps endurance. Lying on my back holding power tools above me gets tiring and frustrating and as such it has taken me much longer than it should. I would say if you had a rotisserie (and the more comfortable working condition it provides) it could be done in a matter of 2-3 days. Need to stock up on my POR-15 supplies soon, not going to be cheap!
  18. check my website out, I am doing this at the moment and it is very easy, just time consuming. http://www.angelfire.com/hi3/hiper/260Z.html I am using an anglegrinder and wire wheel and it saves messing around with chemicals and scrapers etc etc
  19. Is there anything inherently wrong with the L28ET turbo manifold or has anyone found significant gains by making up a custom tuned length manifold? I need to know whether to purchase a nissan manifold or make one. Thanks guys.
  20. Sounds good. So what items did you wire behind relays? Im guessing, all lighting, but what else? Thanks
  21. That is very tidy. I dont suppose you are willing to share the wiring diagram?? Please email me if you are, Im looking at doing the same thing and a base map would be of great help.
