  1. hmmm...I suppose technically you are right. I would still like to hear the thoughts and justifications of those with turbo RB's though. How much bracing you have done, and what you think is sufficient. I have already seam welded the chassis.
  2. How necessary do you guys consider a cage to be with an RB conversion? Is the increased torque going to be enough to cause any twisting of the chassis over time or is the reason you guys do it primarliy for occupant safety reasons?
  3. who said they were doing AWD? I must have missed it?
  4. Sounds familiar. Have you considered Autronic or Motec? Much better ECU's.
  5. Not to mention stringent emissions laws enforced by their governments on new cars made in countries around the world to protect environment. Also manufacturers take into account fuel economey as most of the world are paying more than $3.85/gallon for fuel.
  6. I dont think either have the chassis or suspension adjustabilty to be suited to drifting. Buy a hack S13 like the rest in Australia, at least there are heaps of aftermarket parts to help you, it will perform the task better and you wont be hurting a 240Z Im no "purist", fitting an RB30DET into my 260Z, however unless you are prepared to spend $40k doing the conversion properly and getting the suspension and brakes setup and chassis stiff enough to handle the punishment just so you can slide into a wall, I wouldnt do it.
  7. It looks like hotrodair.com offer a fresh air option now, so recirc only may not be an issue.
  8. Do all these aftermarket units have servo motor flaps or is this unique to vinatgaeair? what do you mean by blending of vents also? Thanks
  9. hotrodair.com say they have a new fresh air option on their site. Please post any pictures of progress made, would be interesting. The whole datsun heater/blower systems is to be removed, correct? I am wondering how serviceable things like the heater core and such will be a few years down the track?
  10. Has anyone else done any of these aftermarket (vintage/hotrodair) installs since and care to share photos?
  11. Installation photos would be excellent and answer many future questions if someone has the time.
  12. The motors are dirt cheap in Japan, if you have the patience to organise all the shipping and customs yourself you can save a bit. Other wise you are stuck with the import wreckers like everyone else. Actually I would probably buy an RB privately from skylinesaustralia.com forums before a wrecker.
  13. check you heater hoses too. I had a Z31 that was making a funny hissing noise, i ignored it and a week later the heater hose blew off the heater core while driving, steam and coolant everywhere. Mustnt have been hissing rather a high pressure stream of coolant leaking past. Didnt notice wet carpets but i suppose it was a low volume stream and might have been in an inconspicuous direction.
  14. cost compromises yes, inefficiencies very rarely...although GM and it's subs globally hold a special place in every OEM suppliers heart in regard to glaring inefficiencies and are probably one of the exceptions to my statement
  15. Why could the OEM design obviously be improved upon? OEM engineers rarely get it wrong and I would say it would be near impssible for a private "backyard" modification as crude as cutting and shutting the manifold with the TB in a different place could ever improve on an OEM design with their large R&D budget, knowledge and equipment. The modification you suggest has been done many times in australia. The result? uneven airflow and leaning out on cylinders. There have been flow bench shoot outs with mass produced aftermarket manifolds like that from GREDDY and even with properly flowbench designed manifolds like this, differences are really negligable.
  16. All the GT3X turbos have the correct T3 flange for the stock manifold to my knowledge. Gt30's and 35's can be custom assembled by garrett with internally gated exhaust housings which is what you would want with the stock manifold unless you want to cut and shut and external gate to the exhaust which is a bit suspect in my opinion.
  17. Whats the difference in the plenum?
  18. Thats what I was quoted in NZ as well, better off getting one in australia, they pop up on skylinesaustralia.com quite often. Nice engine in your avatar, looks suspiciously like mine
  19. I wouldnt expect to pay more than $1200-$1300AUD for a decent condition RB25DET box, I know I didnt. The RB20 or RB20 boxes will be an easier fit and half the price but much more prone to breaking especially with the power your looking at.
  20. I would definitely use a BB turbo, as far as I know they are rebuildable at a price but since you are buying new you shouldnt have to worry about rebuilding it. The argument is similar to EFI cars being more expensive or difficult to repair.
