  1. Only own one little Z, after playing Passenger to a mates 2nd Gen 300ZX, I am looking forward to getting my hands on one of those in the near future, really nice places to be. But for the time being, I'm working on my '71 sigh.
  2. That Skyscraper is insaaaaaaaaane. To think, the money that has been funded to do that, perhaps they could turned the 350z into something successful *ducks and dodges the hellfire* Kidding. I love the 350. But yes, I stay up to Endless hours of the morning researching and getting ideas and schemetics from other HybridZ'ers, this place truly is an endless archive of knowledge.
  3. Awesome man, I will keep this in mind when going to the Autoshop next. From what I've been lead to believe, the flywheel hasnt been modified/lightened, though I had plans of running something lighter when I start fiddling with the Transmission bladyblabla, weather where I am is quite hot even throughout the winter, I will have to take a word out of Tony D's books and experiment with the different ISO levels. Thank you for the indepth explaination of ATF and oils, it really has put a new light to the situation, knowing that I can't really go "wrong", has definately taken a weight off my shoulders. That's what Z's are all about I guess, experimentation, trial and (lots of) error haha. Thank you both for your help, it is greatly appreciated.
  4. What density/grade of ATF would you recommend for SU Carb well refills? I have had a search through the Hybridz.org Forums and had a read through some books I have, they all say ATF is the way to go, but none say what "type". Was in the Auto shop the other day and shat bricks at the wide variety of ATF they had on shelves, please help me other brothers (and sisters) I asked the store attendants but they were shocked to hear I had the car let alone know what grade would be best. Running '71 Roundtop SUs on a 280ZX T engine converted back to Carbs. I figured this section, being Troubleshooting, would be the way to go, seeing how it didnt really seem to fit in any other subforum.
  5. That. is. one. massive. engine. Holy Jesus man, there is more engine then there is car, what a mad swap!
  6. I can't remember the exact name of the product I've been using, but it's a wax/grease/X substance disolvant, just basically breaks down everything that has sticky properties, still requires a bit of elbow grease to scrap it off, luckily have only had to work on small areas so far. I don't know of any faster alternative, I have heard some good things about Dry Ice, just like EMWHYROHEN said, luckily for me, most of it was ripped out before I got the car. Can only dare to imagine what it would be like stock insulated...the horror.

    New Sparco Seats

Had my eye on the "Fighter" series from Sparco, but I'm not looking for some sinister track vehicle where every gram matters. Going to settle for some cheapy bigger, arguably lusher seats from eBay. Nice looking seats, didnt notice those ones before, cant really give any opinions about the A4's, they look nice, just depends on the application. Don't lose sleep over it, whatever you like best bro.
  8. I had originally wanted to try my hand at making a Twin Turbo L28/30/31 whatever but after seeing what could be done with a SINGLE turbo, that fantasy sort of died off, the amount of money, hours and headaches required to get all that ♥♥♥♥ stuffed in the engine, might be more trouble then its worth, I mean, sure it would be awesome to turn around and say "I have a Twin Turbo L" but its money that could be spent on the prexisting engine to make it some 600+ monster like most enthusiasts. Shame about the MR2, hopefully the new engine will give it a nice new burst of life, what caused the engine to crap out?
  9. Holy christ, I literally feel ill looking at that photo...christ. From what I can tell, rust on my Z isnt TOO bad in comparison to most cases Ive seen, just usual hatch, skirts and a little fender rust...though Ive yet to take panel work off to reveal what "lurks beneath the surface".
  10. Dont have them for my 240 yet, still need to do some more calculations for Coil/Strut clearance, but was thinking about grabbing myself a set of Volk CE28N's. Have been hell bent on them for years, I'm running 4x114.3 lug. Offsets on them are BSly massive, most wheel sets I see HybridZ'ers have are like +/-15 offset max. Was tossing up between 16x7.5 8 Spokers or 17x7.5 10 Spokers (only 4 lug available in 10 spoke) if I can get the clearance which Im hoping I can, then theyre as good as bought, if I cant, then I might have to settle for some Wats or those nice dished Sportsmax/Rota rims that are floating around on this thread.
  11. Rebadging was simply subtopic. The point I was trying to put across is, look at those pictures, the question being is how did those nuGTRs recieve such brutal totality? Bad weather conditions? evading a traffic hazard? grip issues? or drivers thinking they could put it down and be in control? The latter is what I was trying to get across, people with power, dont know how to use it. I havent seen the R35 (if thats what their official identification number validates them as) in Australia yet, have seen plenty of those 350GT Skylines though...anyone got any more totalled skyline pics? its a rainy day and I need cheering up rofl
  12. ROFLROFL, Ah that made my day, the mentality over here is just "money is power" people have big wallets but little brains in the way of passion....people buy skylines because they are cheap, powerful, and parts are easy to come by for repair or modification, require little work to make them powerhouses... Even got to the point a while ago where I considered RB'ing my 240z but...its like, you have a supreme hate for something, mine being the skyline, yet I want its engine in my car? just seems sort of hypocritical you know Yeah sadly alot of the cases over here tend to be Re-badging as well, not just with Skylines but every form of import, most common one is the good ol Evo, walking back to my car the other day. saw a pink Lancer GLi pulling out of the carpark, fart can, stupid evo headlights with "evolution X" on the back of it, chick was typical major headcase. Ah well guess you cant win them all.
  13. Big Phils the reason how I found HybridZ.org and I guess the final nail in the coffin to my search for a Z, was lurking on Youtube about a year ago, just kept going from link to link and found a clip of him belting around in his sinister Turbo 280z. Just seems like the most genuine bloke ever. Sounds like a plan with the dynomat and sound deadening, what brand of material you looking to use for the floors? EDIT : what were your original plans for it, something to just be able to crank at 110%? crisp high end or dark low end? mate of mine only listens to Drum and Bass, and the amount of low end power his system has is bullsh!t, put something with a high end on it, blaring rock or metal, whatever and it just sounds ♥♥♥♥, all depends on the setup I guess and amount of insulation you have to contain the vibration.
  14. I noticed how they seem to fit there like a glove, didnt realise you had a 280z *takes head out of the sand*, when testing at higher volumes, did you ever experience shell vibration issues at all? Alot of home setups Ive seen, even at low volumes, causes alot of "buzzing" from the exterior of the car. I've seen people cut out the Spare Tyre recess and make custom subwoofer platforms, I'm personally going to use the Spare Tyre recess for a Fuel Cell, I'm sure I'll think of something. Can't wait to see the setup when its all nice and clean, bro. PS : Jealous as, you've met the legendary Big Phil!
  15. Couldn't agree more, mate, couldn't agree more. Sadly, dont have any pictures but a small story, didnt have my camera on me at the time but the other day, was driving to work and saw an R33 GTS-xx wrapped around a telegraph pole, and by wrapped around, I mean, think boomerang'd, dont know how the hell it would of happened, straight strip of road, dry weather. FYI : I hate skylines, fullstop. Disclaimer - Yes, they are great preformance vehicles, but 99% of the "fully sick pro-drift drivers like in Fast n Furious, yo!" give them a bad rap, here in Australia, they are as common as Holden Commodores (Vauxhall, in the international market) The driver was fine, few nicks and cuts, relatively upset that his 8000 AUD skyline went down the drain, I'd say its doing the world a favour. /endsoapbox
  16. Any particular reason why youve mounted the speakers there? Have always been curious about "where to put the speakers" in any early Z to be honest, was thinking about putting some nice 16x9s where the "storage" compartments are, and some tweeters where the air ducts are in the dash.

    Z32 Lsd

Correct me if Im wrong, chances are I am. ViscousLSD's consist of two halfshafts, theyre controlled by viscous liquid and these fan like thingers that help control the flow/pressure between the two when spinning at the same speed, when one wheel has too much power, the pressure of the liquid and other mechanisms adjusts to try and compensate for the other wheels lack of power. ClutchLSDs are LSD with numerous clutch plates/gears (not sure what the proper term is exactly) between the two wheels that balance the power between the two wheels at a more/if not completely constant rate of power. People have their own opinions as to which is better between the two, price being the major difference, and most technical ♥♥♥♥ Im still learning about. I fail. Im n00b too bro
  18. Now that is some seriously wacked. Gullwing would be an interesting idea, is hard to imagine on a Z, Lambos and Suicide just spell Ricer, sorry, but Gullwing would be interesting to see, imagine the amount of labour involved to get that setup...man. Perhaps someone with some pro photoshop skills could shop a gullwing design onto a Z body?
  19. I've always been a believer that "Ones man trash is another mans treasure". Just because someone doesnt "feel", doesnt "understand" how you are connected to your car, doesnt mean that it doesnt exist, the connection between man and machine is simply quite simple, but so hard to understand unless your walking in that persons shoes to comprehend it. Mate of mine has a '98 Supra, and its his life, I dont understand what he sees in it, and he cant completely comprehend my obsession with my '71 240. The moment I saw my 240 on eBay, out of all the ones Ive seen up there, of every model, year, whatever, when I saw it, I just.......felt something take over me........I dont believe cars have souls, I believe they just simply take yours away.
  20. Pretty much every incident that has been discussed in this Thread has happened to me. My '71 is stuck in the garage for the time being, but whenever Im doing some work to her, cleaning her out or just admiring the damn thing, whenever people driveby or walkby, they come up and say : "Oh nice Etype, you sure do appreciate your cars" "Havent seen that type of Porsche before, what year is it?" "What type of car is that?" Everytime I try to explain to people WHAT the car is and WHERE it came from it seems to be some sort interdimensional twilight zone fritz that causes everyone to just go "Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" I was at lunch the other day with a few friends and we were talking about the car and my plans with it, admittingly, I know a bit about the old Zs and Zs in general, but not enough to pride myself on it like alot of proud members of Hybridz.org, if I dont know something, I dont make ♥♥♥♥ up. Anyway these chavvy wannabes sitting on the table next to us speak up and asked me what I was working on. Me : "a 240z" Them : "you mean SX?" *my mates know whats coming, theyve heard it all before* Me : "sigh...No, a '71 Datsun 240z heard of it?" Them : "Man whatever that car is I could outdrift you anyday of the week" Me : I could outdrift your mum anyday of the week, going sideways you know" Friends : *pissing themselves laughing* Them : *walk off in shame* They couldnt of been any older then 15-16 years old.
  21. Lucky I found this thread when I did otherwise I'd proberbly do something stupid and regret it. I do not have a 280ZX Turbo engine, I have (What Im lead to believe) is a 280Z engine transplanted into a '71 240z though even that Im not sure of, I have many pictures of the engine for reference, has P90 heads, N41 intake (or was that E46...) but I am suffering similar if not identical symptoms from what has been conversed in this thread. Im not a professional, I am learning and taking whats been said already, on board. When turning the engine over, again it idles very rough, if not cuts out, if I etch it on with a bit of throttle, after about a minute or two of "warming" the engine up, it still backfires (sounds more like its choking/coughing then backfiring) but idles fine. There is a large sump of oil located towards the front of the engine, I have pictures to show you what Im talking about. At first I thought it could be too much oil flooding the engine out, there is a very rich smell of petrol/oil/something whenever the engine is running, then I thought it could just be running rich, after checking the spark plugs, the tips varied from a dry sooty residue to a rather oily residue - reading up on in this in my reference books basically says : your running rich, something wrong with gasket, replace plugs, air filter, drain oil and tune. Sound right? Even if its an excessive amount of buildup, would a product like Seafoam help "clean" out the innerds or is it best to rip the engine apart and see whats going on with your own eyes? The gentleman who I bought this car off had it serviced not too long ago...which is what I thought was weird. I understand the OP has higher priority, and considering the intricate nature of the Turbo models, deserves more attention, Im just bleeding my heart out. Again I do not have a turbo/ZX engine so Im not sure if the exact tests mentioned earlier will be valid for my engine, though I will try anything. Pictures :
  22. After lurking forums and registers, local papers, awing at friends various project cars, reading this thread has given me some new inspiration and ideas to what to do with my Z. Spent the better part of about 5 years looking for a 240, got a 71 240 with an L28 dropped into it, not too sure what version L28 but either way the body is rust free, panel work needs some attention, brakes have seized and the gearbox is on the way out. From what Ive been reading of your project, anything is possible, I look forward to reading up on more of your project as it pans out, and hopefully, ground my head in regards to what Im going to do with mine.
