i heard you kan do a relatively ' easy' swap from ecu's but why would i do it, is this the MAF swap, cause that would be alot harder, and not 'easy' anyone? Frank

Dammit today i discovered the euro zxt had an oil cooler deu to higher road speeds. it had an external mounted magnatic oilpump that would circulate the oil to a radiator situated behind the feultank in the rear of the car. the pump comes on at speeds above 6mph and diff temps of 257 degrees a warning light comes on on the engine check in the dash if the temp exceeds 311 degrees cool gadget and needed according to the euro datsun service manual for ZXT's anyways i have seen these on 300zxt's and 200sx's here any cars have em there? also it has 3.364 gearing (R200) that makes it faster ( stock exeeding 160 mph) wannahave Today i saw my first dutch Turbo, it had no power nothing, the windows cranked, mirrors dito, no AC etc.. Well yeah i have two sets of EFI minifolds laying around, so here we go agian !! Still we should meet up sometime i would like to see the work done on the 260 regards Frank

Brainstorming a turbo motor build...suggestions welcome
frank280zx replied to a topic in 6 Cylinder Z Forums
so with this you meen rewiring it to a MAF? or just running an 300ecu, what benifits does it have? i have heard speculation before, but never found anyone with info... so basicly what do i need for this swap? and what will it benifit me? But to shine my light upon the initial q... you do not need a diffrent cam people can make as much as 400HP on stock turbo cams i heard people with a good tuned 280ZXT who run a IC and aprox 12/15 psi rate in at 240/250 HP.. so basicly you need an IC, a device to control the boost, bigger TB, a good exhaust system ( free flowing) and bigger injectors/raised presure might do the trick, Ask Tyson he is running pretty stock, with a starion cooler and 10PSI of boost no injector upgrades sofar he ran 200 rwhp given you can safely run upto 14/15 psi of boost with a good IC setup you can reach 250 No radical mods there i'm mating my huge IC on my car now and i'm aiming for the same, i'm also looking in to jeffp's 3' downpipe system hope this helps FRank -
What year car and is it a 2+2???MT or AT ?

http://old.zdriver.com/rides/spec/pix/frank280zx_1026041375.jpg This is my old set up , with a blitz cleaner, non K&N, I'm happier with my K&N they look like better quality cleaners, also this a 90 degree bent, withs is not as good as less degree bending ( smoother), and must be avoided if possible, cause wont be as smooth through a 90 degree bent sorry this is the only pic i could come up with this fast Frank

I would buy a cone style K&N in a decent size, then go to the hardware store and buy a elbow ( 45 degree) aluminexzed or stainless tell pipe i believe they are 4" ( so the cone has to have a 4"opening) fit it in the stock hose from the AFM, and voila.. don't expect this to add 10 HP orso, it flos better, and on a stock angine it wont do Sh%t that is it might ad 1 hp, and make the engine pick up a lil better...but it is all the little things that help frank

well the list as fad as i can oversee it: Given you first want to have a stock L28ET running in you're early z. I astart with the radiotor, if equipped external oil cooler, the motor mounts are the same. Futher you will need the ECU ( located at the kick panel on the driversside when you have a lhd) say where you're ankle always is, it is a 10/15 cm blueish box. As far as the wiring goes, you pretty much need the complete harnes that goes from there, to the injectors ( just janked it all, you never know what it comes in handy for) Get the ignition coil AFM , J pipe/downpipe, boost sensor located on the driversside in fromt of the strut trower in the enginebay I heard you talk about halfshafst? what diff are you runnin, if a r180 i would take the diff too i guess this is about it anything i left out guys Note i have a 280zxt turbo i have never done a swap like this But when in a junkyard buying an engine, my experiance is the will not or close to nothing, for the extra stuff you yank, so i would strip the intire engine bay, also if you want CC and all yank the control units from under the drivers and passanger seat. If it is a 83 or 83 Turbo, take the talking lady ( if equipped) and sell her on ebay orso ( it is located in the spare tire compartment in the upper corner on the wheel well good luck agian guys anything left out? Frank

I know pallnet was tweaking on this and (test) runnin It he is situated in the AL area, he is the guy that always seems to have every part you need ( Ã think i have one of those!) hope this helps ( he is posting on zcar.com pretty often)

So you are saying Alfa Romeo TB'S are more or less a direct bolt on swap ( with some adapting ) and what model do you aim at, hehe my brother has a 156 V6 i can jank it out off his . I allready have decently big injectors (370cc) of a Mercedes Benz i flow tested them and i have 6 good ones i have not installed them jet since my car is not leanin out at 10 psi jet, it might when i'm at 15 and that is the time to install them. However, how much HP are you looking at for the 260? cause Non turbo HP qeusts on L series engines, are, compared to Turbo engines Running in the $ numbers? I'm building ( for my 280zx N/A) a Flat top Piston F54 N42 with TB gutted Turbo AFM. Headers and straight exhaust ( r200 lsd Diff) i'm aiming at 150 rwhp, but it think that might be hoping for to much..But for 'real'HP goals i'll be using the Turbo Still hope to see that set up once Frank

Hehe you might be able to help me out for bigger TB wishes! since we do not have to much car paradises in holland well check my site http://www.280zxt.tk not much on my mods on there.. Basicly i'm building a Flat top f54 with n42 ported head mild cam headers big Tb and bigger injectors raise fp... well you know the tweaks frank

Just wonedring waht it will do in raising the HP, would it be a good system on a ZX Turbo or would sds be a better aim?

He guys It has been a while since my last post, mainly deu to a louse internet connection ( some shitty provider ) But here are a few qeustions concering ECU's and tranny swaps: So i have a q, a Dutch Z guy drives, better drove a 60k mile Eurospec 83 5 speed ZXT, in very mint condition, but when he got his car out of storage his battery was flat, so he got AAA ( ANWB in holland) start help, but the AAA dude switched the poles on the battery (-/+) so he blew out a fusable link, and smoked the ECU Now i have a spare ECU but of an AT would this work on MT, and if not why not? Futher this raises a qeustion with me, when i built my BW 5 speed into my ZXT would i need to replace the ECU? or what does make it to run bad ( so what do we need to change any input would be GREAT Frank

He man, agian this is all bout cash, i've seen a post the other day about a guy with 235 N/A line six power. So you could get a stroker kit at $1900 orso or go with a high compression f54 flat top n42 or diffrent head combo, witch will hop the compression into the 10's a big TB diffrent injectors, programmable engine manegement system to replace the stock ecu, and or a cam, and head work would make the car faster. Need help on choosing PISTONS for my project
frank280zx replied to frank280zx's topic in 6 Cylinder Z Forums
Thanks kevin Well i'm not sure of NOS i want it to be a 'brutal' (what is brutal here) car with more go juice than a averange road car, the NOS thought is for the times i need that little extra, but in the far future, first i want a good MSD ignition, and a progammable engine manegment system and all, so NOS would be the ultimate when i still think she to slow. But consider the Nos not being there, what would be a nice cam? duration and all, i heard a 270 duration is good, MSA states 290 duration cams are OK, but i dont want my car to be having revved to 4k just to keep her running at a traffic light, i do not mind a rough idle, but i have no cleu of cams, or the valves to use in that matter.. I'm reading all i can including the book how to modify you're Datsun OHC, I understand the basics but thee is allot to learn I read having bigger valves is a must on this forum, though i read the N42 head has big enough valves as is?? I will port and polish and match the head to both intake and header, are there more things that i could benifit from, as in optimizing the flow carateristics? sorry tons of q's to all with wisdom Frank Frank -
Need help on choosing PISTONS for my project
frank280zx replied to frank280zx's topic in 6 Cylinder Z Forums
Unfortunatly not all f54's came with flattops, some like the n42 came with dished, i will install flattops, unless i can find a better option! Thanks for the reply -
Twin TB ??? as far as i know, there is only one Throttlebody, or are you reffering to teh AFM? i read post about mass airflow meters, but don't know people that actually succeded in doing it...though the must be out here.. Frank

He guys, As some of you might now, i'm rebuilding my engine, and my goal is...more go!!!!! so this are my 'tools' to work with. I have an F54 Block, with original cranck and rods, N42 head witch will get a hot cam ( havent figured out the numbers, it has to be a good 'streetracer' jet), and will be ported an polished. My intake will be polished and carry a 65mm TB for sure, maybe a and hopefully a 70mm, a custum feul rail and bigger 370cc injectors. THe outlet side will have a Holly Hooker header 6-2 with a high flow daul exhaust I will use a high pressure feul pump and a FPR, also i'm planning a MSD ignition, and a SDS type motor manegment sytem, but at first it has to run on the stock ECU, since sadly i don't have a money tree in my garden so lots of plans for her. i'm aiming at about 250 orso HP, maybe with the use of NOS But now the problem i want to get flat top pistons to improve the Compression but since im reading about skyline pistons and all, i was wondering if there are 'bolt on' pistons that will higer the compression, but use the same rod, or what rod do i need, iw ant to keep my cranck at this point, unless i find a diesel cranck, but then i will be back to you guys. Any of you guys have experiance with 'hybrid' pistons, and what do i need to mod? where would teh compression be? Please don't come with 'use anoter head, or built a stroker, or go with boost', i also have a ZXT thsi will eb my next project. This are my ingriedients and i want to use em, finding parts in holland is hard as is so any help on the piston subject would be apreciated thankz Frank

OOh i forgot also the liner does not affect the gas milage, it just gets burning hot, and thus burns out more particals of polluted air, or so is the theory, though it restrics the flow, well i would just get a 'new' head....EVIL RUNNER LOL
-
are you in any position of requiring another Head? since you haven't actuallly rebuilt it jet, a n42 or p79, or p90 for that matter would be easier than taking these runners out my 02 cents
