Traction bars on a 280z??
jgkurz replied to jgkurz's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Hey TomoHawk. That's funny. Not ha ha funny, but still funny. Just kidding... I don't think my wheel hop problem can be solved with a diff mount or bumber since it's not a live axle setup. The diff is already locked down. I have adjustable struts and I still can't get it controlled. The car is will be capable of low 12's or better if I don't have to let off because of wheel hop. -
Take a look at this car. Aside from the argument if it's real or not it does have some unique parts. I sure could use a solution that helps my wheel hop. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6187&item=2466155601#ebayphotohosting 1)What are the bars ahead of the rear wheels? I want the HRE 540 or 540R wheels for my car. The best price I've found for the 540 so far was $922.00 per wheel. Another $100.00 to get them shipped to my house. This was for 17x8 5x114.3 lugs and 20mm offset. I was planning on some 235/45-17 Dunlop SP Sport 9000 tires which are $149.00 a piece. The whole package with mounting and balancing would come in at about $4500.00.... They'd look soooo good though.

Congratulations Tim! I strive to come within a fraction of that kind of power.... It's interesting that every BIG HP turbo L28 that I've seen make all their power under 6000 RPM's. I'm guessing the reason is in the design of the cylinder head. I have a fairly large ISKY turbo cam and my peak power came in at 5250 RPM last time I was on the dyno.

Hey Z-Gad, Are you breaking 280ZX CV shafts with Modern Motorsport's adapters? I'm converting my R200 LSD over to the CV shafts and am hoping they are stronger than the u-joint half shafts. With the original half shafts I've run a 2.0 60ft without breakage, but I think I'm on borrowed time.

Wagz, That Dave's site, but he no longer makes the mounts.

Which 15/16 master cylinder?
jgkurz replied to jgkurz's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Awesome!!! Thanks guys. -
Hi all, I want to upgrade the 7/8 master cylinder to a 15/16 unit from a ZX. I know it can be done, but I've ran into a problem. I got the 15/16 master cylinder and parts from an 83 280ZXT. When I went to bolt it on the adapter that bolts to the vacuum booster it had the wrong bolt pattern. Did I get the wrong year 15/16 MC? If I remember correctly it should be a simple bolt on.

godspeed_racing, Not that I don't wish you the best, but I'm not sure anyone has EVER gotten 400 crank HP out of an N/A L28. I think roughly 300HP is what most people who put out the big bucks get without a turbo. If Javier can do it he'll probably get some serious follow-on business. Best of luck. Sincerely,

I've written Dave about this mount a couple times and he has no plans to make more. I definitely would like one myself if they ever become available again.

What are the pros/cons of building a turbo stroker motor?
jgkurz replied to mrcheeze36's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
If I had it to do all over again I would have kept the stroke stock and put the money into the cylinder head work. In my opinion, you need longer rods (longer than 133mm) to get the rod/stroke ratio where it needs to be with a stroker. That's 1000.00 by itself. Don't get me wrong, my stroker is fast, but there are more than a handful of stock bore and stroke L28's that are making much more HP and torque than I am. -
Just for comparison I run Bridgestone 205/60HR15's on my 77Z. The car weighes about 2950lbs with me in it. I ran a 12.9 at 110MPH and managed a 2.0 60ft time. My differential is an 1988 300ZXT 3.7 LSD. At that time the car dynoed at 307 RWHP and 345 RWTQ. I am amazed how well these tire hook up.

Here's another one I've considered. http://www.arizonazcar.com/sprock.html It's much cheaper than the HKS.

How big of an injector will I need?
jgkurz replied to Evan Purple240zt's topic in 6 Cylinder Z Forums
Jamie T, here's a link that has some decent injector information. As usual my injector p/n 195500-1350 is listed as a 460cc. As I mentioned above, it tested at 440cc at 43.5 psi. http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/injector.html http://www.robietherobot.com/storm/fuelinjectorguide.htm I may be selling mine to upgrade to 680cc injectors if anyone is interested. Regards, -
Anyone have a copy of the video? Looks like the link is permanantly down. Thanks

Ross, Sorry for your loss. I've had two Z's stolen and wanted to give you some ideas that helped me. The second Z I had stolen I actually recovered. I put a very descriptive add in the local newspaper and offered a reward to anyone who could give me details about the whereabouts of the car. A few days after the ad started I received a call at 3am in the morning from a gas station attendant. This led me to the car and subsequently to an arrest. I hope this helps. Regards, John Kurzhals

Thanks guys! I appreciate the input.

How big of an injector will I need?
jgkurz replied to Evan Purple240zt's topic in 6 Cylinder Z Forums
I use these exact RX7 injectors. The Nippon Denso p/n is 195500-1350. I had them cleaned and flowed prior to putting them on my car. They actually flow 440cc at at 43.5psi fuel pressure. For some reason everyone thinks they are 460cc. Instead of drilling my intake I just took some 80 grit sand paper and sanded a few thousands off the plastic pintle caps and they slid right in. Before I made my o-ring fuel rail I did use the hose clamp method. It's worked well until I got sick of looking at the old fuel rail. -
Hi all, I have this nice B&M shifter that needs a modification to fit in my car without hacking up my console. I have a 83 Borg Warner T-5 trans that has the shifter farther forward than the Nissan 5spd. I need to cut the shifter inside the circle then rewelded at about a 30 degree angle. The rod seems to be made of 5/8 stainless steel. Can this be welded back together with any reasonable strength? Should I try and heat and bend vs cut and weld? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. John

Anyone ordered the new AEM wideband guage display?
jgkurz replied to a topic in Turbo / Supercharger
Horsepower Freaks are actually just down the street from me. Even though they are mostly Supra folks they can get parts from most all notable manufactures. I've ordered around $1500.00 worth of parts and had good luck with them. They usually have great prices, but if they don't they'll usually price match. -
Hi all, I came across a couple sites that reminded me of my time in the military. I wanted to pass these sites on to anyone who feels sentimental towards the A6 as I do. I personally knew both of the aircrew in the second link. Lt Turner had a white 280z 2+2 that I worked on a couple times. One of the many things I remember about him is that the 5spd shifter bushings were extremely worn and sloppy as they all get over time. I offered to replace them and he told me that he was use to it and didn't want me to fix it. At the time I thought it was the wierdest thing. Now I remember him as a friend, a zcar lover and a man that gave up his life for our country. May Lt Turner and Lt Costen rest in peace. Hi all, I found these high quality gauges for my Z. Using a dual gauge pod I should be able to install all the desired gauges without looking too rice'd out. Here's the link. I can't find a link directly to SPA yet. http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/spagauge.htm

After reading this post I think I'll try adjusting my cam timing for some improved power. If I remember correctly there are two types of adjustable timing sprockets for the L series Datsuns. The NISMO type p/n 13024-E4621 and the HKS type that doesn't require the chain to be removed. I'd prefer to buy the HKS type if possible. Does anyone have a recommended source? Thanks

I modified my Nissan wastegate and it was a major PITA as Scottie suggests. I didn't want to go through the trouble of an external wastegate and I also wanted to keep my current "Scottie" downpipe. Boring the hole was difficult according to my machinest because the metal was extremely hard. I don't remember the actual measurment, but I made the hole as large a possible while still maintaining a consistant .125 seal on the new flapper valve. I made a custom flapper valve using a stainless steel lawnmower valve. The trick was getting the proper free play in the valve so it seals properly yet does not catch on the wastegate hole. So far it holds a steady 15psi with a T04E 50 trim compressor wheel. I've yet to try 20psi. I'm sure it will have some boost creep as compared to an external wastegate.
