  1. Yeah, but its basically a top end package, and is out of the range for most of us folks. Even the LS1 is pricey, I'd rather buy the whole car and just enjoy it as is, maybe with mods, but I'm not ready to have a $10,000 Z car just yet. So many mods, so little money!
  2. Brand new you'd dump about 3 grand, not worth it. I'd buy used, the 93 Fbody 6 speed is a close ratio trans if you feel like looking into it versus other years.
  3. Unless you equip an older SBC with 15º heads, then the LS1 will kick anything elses ___ GM wise. These cars can be setup to make big power with no real exotic work, plus the firing order is 'better' for those picky about that extra 1% or so from exaust pulsation efficiency/velocity yada yada. Basically the LS1 is setup almost perfectly right off the bat with what the SBCs only get with machine work and plenty of dough, plus the whole fuel injection thing, carbs make me sick. For an all out race machine thats one thing, but I was making on the (dinosaur) LT1 about 470 HP and getting 17 MPG average, on trips I'd touch into the 20 range, I want to see someone do that with a carb setup. As a joke, "the carbeurator is the only device known to man to provide an innaccurate air/fuel ratio at all RPMs." Better driveability, no fuel float issues in corners, you name it, FI IMO is the sheet. Port the heads, throw in a cam, and make an easy 500 HP if not more. There are guys doing over 500 RWHP with more work (too bad the internals are so expensive). Guys making HP like I did with my LT1, are running 10-15º smaller cams, and no headwork are pushing 400 RWHP, passing the sniffer in CA. I am very tempted to get one myself, throw on some LS6 or 6.0L truck heads ported, work the intake possibly (they are not perfect), and someone could find themselves with good driveability, "good" MPG, and 600+ HP depending on your wants, with an under 7k limit if so desired. All aluminum and 6 bolt mains, FWIW. For a GM engine it is top dog, no question about it.
  4. Camaros may not be your style, but they dont suck
  5. So its like being the swimwear models of the driving world LoL
  6. Depends who drives it and where, magazines almost never hit the same times. Plus every car is different, gas is different, yada yada.
  7. $400 for custom wheels would be great, but I dont need 10 sets
  8. Huh? Are you shooting for power steering or manual? I'm sticking with the manual stock setup, but I road race it, for a street car power steering would be kind of nice.
  9. Yeah get some slippery tires that last forever and they are going to have to take some major heat abuse too. That is the problem with scrubbing the tires during any race, once the tires heat up eventually besides possibly blowing up on you, they just wont grab any more, this is a big problem with heavy cars - conserving tires.
  10. Even if it said Ferrari, what exactly would the point be...
  11. LoL, I'm glad you could laugh at my expense. I dont know much about rotaries, I do know a local guy racing one in a spec series, and they are damn tiny engines! I think you could stuff about 3 bodies in the front end and still not block the engines air flow I didn't even know they don't have valves, no bearings? Are they direct injection? I still stand by my statement though, they can't afford breakage You wont see many Le Mans cars go down, although they do have thier string of problems sometimes but it almost always seems to be one car in a particular batch that has a bad season.
  12. I've got a video somewhere of a Diablo running a 14 something.
  13. On a real race car its obviously a sponsorship deal, I see very little stickercharging nowdays other than fake Type R badging and so on (on a Mustang?..........)
  14. Mudge

    really nice header

Looks like a ball joint up top too? Never really though of that vs a rod ended setup.
  15. I know the addiction of wanting more, especially when dealing with a small engine, but that is exactly the magic of boost - "free horsepower!" Alot of the V8 guys that go turbo will run a 355 or 383 instead of going for the ultra big 402/422 etc, because it just isn't needed, but what IS needed is extra block integrity. With more horsepower your also going to get more bearing wear and more side load on those walls anyway, so may as well make up for it with boost and retain what strength you can Myself if I were to upgrade the cam I would likewise aim at maybe a 6200 RPM shift point tops, call me a sissy but again, make up for it with power but keep the revs down, just makes me feel more comfortable.
  16. Uhh, I kind of assume they meant $100, but still - its not THAT amusing. I have a Nissan, why do I have to pretend its a Toyota???
  17. I can agree on that, they need to hit a dirt track and compete!
  18. Something about your link is no good, maybe because of the forum upgrade?
  19. I am at least glad to see that Ford is doing something fun for thier cars, when GM became rather bland. Yes the LS1 cars are awesome, but they dont really advertise a thing and they just dont put any oomph into things it seems. Overall I just dont like the though of being stuck with a small engine, and having to stick a blower on it to make any real power. I made 411 RWHP with an LT1 car, LS1s can do that with a much smaller cam thanks in part to thier whup ass heads, all natural. There are 420-430 RWHP cars with small enough cams to pass smog. Stick LS6 heads on there and I imagine its possible that one could spank out 460 RWHP and pass smog in CA, but who knows. I am debating myself on wether to get one or not.
  20. Don't worry, I'm a sissy
  21. If it doesn't cost much more than a stock replacement caliper, it could give you a little more braking and improved pad wear, but I can honestly say that my stock brakes with steel lines kill the tires. I smoked them badly today after locking them up, and I wasn't even on the brakes that hard, I just do NOT have enough rubber under the car I was at SIR with another car with 225 wide Kumho V700s (racey street tires) and he could stand on his brakes, must be CRAZY!
  22. Sweet! Some of the bigger cars just ran the speedway, a few accidents and some engine failures, they are forced to run a stock pan to keep costs down, and due to that last event the rule might be changed. These are Camaros and Mustangs running stock engines, and they were easily seeing top speed, and in a hard banked corner, you know that is not good on a stock pan, doh.
