Ok everyone I've finally gotten around to making the CAD drawings for this cylinder head. Now I've come to a wall, what valve train! I'm looking at a 7mge out of a first gen supra and also a KA24de valve train. Also the manifolds have been chosen and this head will use RB20 or RB25 turbo or non turbo. I do believe that the plug wires are going to have to be from a first gen supra and yes this will be a chain driven set up. I'll supply CAD sketches upon request. Also another thing how do I make a chain longer or where can I go to have one made. I would also like to know what you think about cam grinds I was thinking of taking the stock turbo cam and using the specs off of that to make an intake and exhaust cams but what do you think? Finally, I would like to say this is going to be a solid billet head and that any ideas or opinions are welcome this head is not just for me but everyone on this board. When I'm done with the testing this device I'll give my drawings and possibly my CAM set ups to all of you, then leaving you with the price of the billet and machining cost. tbs[/b]

this was getting a little to low on the page for my likeing so I needed to save it. Also I've started my CAD drawlings for the DOHC 24valve L6 head. I'm picking a valve train as of now for it so I can go farther. tbs

z31 throttle cable and pedal swap into 280z
turbobluestreak replied to fl327's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
I've done this in a 280zx but I used the stock peddle reforged it to work with the cable. I used a 84 200sx throtle cable. I like it, it took me time to get it adjust it so I could get full throttle. tbs -
24 valve variable valve timing crossflow L series Cyl head

I'm intersted in the head build up just not VTEC DOHC I'm doing some reasearch on this build up and am going to start my cad drawings tomorrow. tbs -
ok this is something that I know that sleeperZ and myself have beed doing you just need to put your own bolts in to hold the sensor down and use the 280zx plate. not if your running 82-83 eccs you don't run the 84-89 power transister they use a different type than needed for the 82-83 eccs. If you really want to try some thing fun buy a 300zx turbo ecu 3 wire o2, mass air sensor, trigger, cas plate, and I think thats it and rewire your harness and you can run that improved eccs on for zxt. SleeperZ and myself are running 300zx eccs. tbs

I was wondering if anyone has ever looked in an old Factory service manual or the cheltens manuals. because on a page of the cheltens they have diagrams of the intake and exhaust passages in the head. really nice and with dimensions. tbs

Any updates on the head yet? Also when we get the results can we see it on a data sheet? tbs
-
James how do you plan to make that ridge in-between the valves? tbs

well I've had good luck witht a set of v power plugs. NGK# BPR6EY-11 thats the same heat range as the stock NGK plug # BPR6ES. It's up to you you also could go with a 7 heat range but I would be worried about detonating with that much boost. tbs

WOW great post but I have to ask why hand port out to 1.625 when you could do most of it with a mill and then smoth the transistion by hand. that way your inlets stay round and don't loose shape from hand porting. What I'm saying is mill the 1.525 and then mill teh 1.625 and just don't mill as deap as the first time. It's just my 2 cents on this. Keep us posted, if all works out I might not swap a DOHC RB20 head to my motor. tbs

I would post it but I don't know how to get it online for everyone. tbs [/img]

I'll dig my manual out tonight and scan you a copy. tbs

all right I didn't pull the head just the towers, I got it all reinstalled and timing set. Thanks for the help guys, it's late so I'm going to finish my motor tomorrow and will be that much closer to being able to drive it again. tbs

oh thank god for that. tbs

yah, oh sh%t I take it I wasn't supposed to do that. well I guess I just shot one head gasket to heck. tbs

ok this is really p!ssing me off. I just put my head back on and I'm sure that the cam journals are back in there orginal location, but I can't get it in the journals, so what could be wrong? wraped cam, wrong aliminmant, wrong placement of the journals? What do you guys requimend that I do? tbs

Ok I was messing with the L6 builder that I downloaded and used a set of L20A rods, LD28 Crank, and FJ20 pistons. note there not programed in there but then have a 32mm pin highth,13cc of a dish and are 89mm wide. Now I do think this would work and but I just wanted to check before I got crazy on planing on doing it this way. Please let me know what you think I'm currious to hear from all of you. tbs

cylinder head molding prossess

ok I found a head finally, I'm just not ok with the price 700AUD for the head and shipping. thats about 500USD for it. I have to use my next pay check to install my windshield and then for bumper paint then I can save for the head. After about a month I should have enough to purchase one and finish up the plan to take it all to the machine shop and then put it together. tbs -
sorry about that I don't know why my user name didnt' go though, yes I posted it and am looking for a head to swap on to my L28 block, yah it's possible and I'm going to do it. then build an 3 liter out of my motor with that head and see what numbers I can come up with. tbs

cool pic of cross flow head, and more
turbobluestreak replied to David K's topic in 6 Cylinder Z Forums
David K I'm swaping an RB20 head to the F54 block that means that we can use JDM parts and save a lot in fabercating of cams, manifolds, and a lot more parts. As of now I'm trying to get an VG30 oil pump to mount on to our blocks then convert to timing belt and swap on an RB head, for extra power. tbs -

I wonder if it was an FJ20 motor? That was a killer four cylinder in the 83 silvas that came turbo charged and was a DOHC motor. tbs -

ok thanks topless, I live in Northwest OHIO. OK I went and bought a sheet of aluminum. Then I broght it home and started to get looking and was getting a head ache. Then I went back at it refreshed I think I have it figured out concidering I can the the pulleys and tensioner to fit inside. I maped it out on the sheet of aluminum and was very pleased with what I've come up with. Next thing to do is find an RB head for a decent price. Can anyone help I need one fast to finish up this head. This looks like it's going to go a lot quicker then I first thought. Please can anyone help me? tbs -
yah 2K for the head but manifolds, new chain tensioners,ect... It adds up fast. thats why OS Gikens head was 12K for the whole set up when it came out. I don't want to rain on our build up but when I can use a nissan oil pump make new covers out of bilet or welded aluminum. and then convert to belt, seams a little less expensive and would give some of the same results. I wouldn't say same because to have a head custom built it I'm assuming that it would be ported and polished for max effecitcy. I wish you the best of luck just be warned that the molds will run you about 15k I checked into it to have bermag build us heads and they do prototyping and thats how much they wanted to make the molds plus 600 per everyone there after. See the bare head price sounds nice but the molds will kill you. It's an uphill battle and I hope that one of us turns out on top. Please keep me updated on your progess and I'll do the same for you. Good luck tbs

OK guys I got the VG30 oil pump today. and let me tell you I petty anyone that owns a Nissan V6 motor and suggest you get rid of it. After about 3+ hours at the junkyard I finally got the oil pump off. Also I used a micrometer to check the diamiter of the crank well if looks as if everything is a go. I just got home and held the oil pump up to the block and the oil pressure is about half inch off from mating with our blocks. I alread knew that I would have to make a spacer/front engine cover now I just know a little more of what I'm going to have to machine into it. I can just rerun the oil through a passage in the spacer/front engine cover to meet our blocks. As of now this project is a complete go. I'll keep you all updated on this and take pictures to show my progress. Also on a more stock note I order my rings for my zxt so in about a week or so I can drive my beast again just this year its been repainted to be blue and silver. Well later tbs

Hey ToplessZ whats your phone number so I can talk to you and keep you updated on the progress of this project. Maybe you could stop down some time and check it out for your self once I get it all hooked up. Secondly Datsun_Dude I would like to know what years nissan made the engines for Mercades so I can look at them, also do you know engine ID numbers so I can look them up faster. Now for the real reason for the posting guys I got the VG30 oil pump today. and let me tell you I petty anyone that owns a Nissan V6 motor and suggest you get rid of it.
