  2. Relationships.... [Attributed to Dave Barry] Let's say a guy named Roger is attracted to a woman named Elaine. He asks her out to a movie; she accepts; they have a pretty good time.A few nights later he asks her out to dinner, and again they enjoythemselves. They continue to see each other regularly, and after awhile neither one of them is seeing anybody else. And then, one evening when they're driving home, a thought occurs to Elaine, and, without really thinking, she says it aloud: 'Do you realize that, as of tonight, we've been seeing each other for exactly six months?' And then there is silence in the car. To Elaine, it seems like a veryloud silence. She thinks to herself: Gee, I wonder if it bothers him that I said that. Maybe he's been feeling confined by our relationship; maybe he thinks I'm trying to push him into some kind of obligation that he doesn't want, or isn't sure of. And Roger is thinking: Gosh. Six months. And Elaine is thinking: But, hey, I'm not so sure I want this kind of relationship, either. Sometimes I wish I had a little more space, so I'd have time to think about whether I really want us to keep going the way we are, moving steadily toward . . . I mean, where are we going? Are we just going to keep seeing each other at this level of intimacy? Are we heading toward marriage? Toward children? Toward a lifetime together? Am I ready for that level of commitment? Do I really even know this person? And Roger is thinking: . . . so that means it was . . . let's see. ...February when we started going out, which was right after I had thecar at the dealer's, which means . . . lemme check the odometer . . .Whoa! I am way overdue for an oil change here. And Elaine is thinking: He's upset. I can see it on his face. MaybeI'm reading this completely wrong. Maybe he wants more from our relationship, more intimacy, more commitment; maybe he has sensed --even before I sensed it -- that I was feeling some reservations. Yes,I bet that's it. That's why he's so reluctant to say anything about his own feelings. He's afraid of being rejected. And Roger is thinking: And I'm gonna have them look at the transmission again. I don't care what those morons say, it's still not shifting right. And they better not try to blame it on the coldweather this time. What cold weather? It's 87 degrees out, and this thing is shifting like a garbage truck, and I paid those incompetent thieves $600. And Elaine is thinking: He's angry. And I don't blame him. I'd be angry, too. I feel so guilty, putting him through this, but I can't help the way I feel. I'm just not sure. And Roger is thinking: They'll probably say it's only a 90-daywarranty. That's exactly what they're gonna say, the rats. And Elaine is thinking: maybe I'm just too idealistic, waiting for aknight to come riding up on his white horse, when I'm sitting right next to a perfectly good person, a person I enjoy being with, a personI truly do care about, a person who seems to truly care about me. A person who is in pain because of my self-centered, schoolgirl romantic fantasy. And Roger is thinking: Warranty? They want a warranty? I'll give thema warranty. I'll take their warranty and stick it right up their ....'Roger,' Elaine says aloud. 'What?' says Roger, startled. 'Please don't torture yourself like this,' she says, her eyes beginning to brim with tears. 'Maybe I should never have . . . I feel so . . .' (She breaks down, sobbing.) 'What?' says Roger. 'I'm such a fool,' Elaine sobs. 'I mean, I know there's no knight.I really know that. It's silly. There's no knight, and there's no horse.' 'There's no horse?' says Roger. 'You think I'm a fool, don't you?' Elaine says. 'No!' says Roger, glad to finally know the correct answer. 'It's just that . . . It's that I . . . I need some time,' Elainesays. (There is a 15-second pause while Roger, thinking as fast as he can, tries to come up with a safe response. Finally he comes up with onethat he thinks might work.) 'Yes,' he says. (Elaine, deeply moved, touches his hand.) 'Oh, Roger, do you really feel that way?' she says. 'What way?' says Roger. 'That way about time,' says Elaine. 'Oh,' says Roger. 'Yes.' (Elaine turns to face him and gazes deeply into his eyes, causing himto become very nervous about what she might say next, especially if itinvolves a horse. At last she speaks.) 'Thank you, Roger,' she says. 'Thank you,' says Roger. Then he takes her home, and she lies on her bed, a conflicted, tortured soul, and weeps until dawn, whereas when Roger gets back to his place, he opens a bag of Doritos, turns on the TV, and immediatelybecomes deeply involved in a rerun of a tennis match between two Czechs he never heard of. A tiny voice in the far recesses of his mindtells him that something major was going on back there in the car, but he is pretty sure there is no way he would ever understand what, and so he figures it's better if he doesn't think about it. (This is also Roger's policy regarding world hunger.) The next day Elaine will call her closest friend, or perhaps two of them, and they will talk about this situation for six straight hours. In painstaking detail, they will analyze everything she said and everything he said, going over it time and time again, exploring everyword, expression, and gesture for nuances of meaning, considering every possible ramification. They will continue to discuss this subject, off and on, for weeks, maybe months, never reaching anydefinite conclusions, but never getting bored with it, either. Meanwhile, Roger, while playing racquetball one day with a mutual friend of his and Elaine's, will pause just before serving, frown, and say: 'Norm, did Elaine ever own a horse?' It's been around a while but I thought you guys would enjoy it!
  3. Basically it depends on how good at fabbing you are or... how deep your pockets are. I've never heard of that swap but hey, why not? Just take some measurements and plan it thoroughly before starting. Run a search in the chevy forum for grumpyvette's engine list to give you an idea as to what might fit best. In fact, the search function is invaluable as you can learn so much even if they're not discussing the exact car that you have.
  4. RacerX to the rescue! Thanks alot. I'll get pics up when I get this thing finished.
  5. I've got the MSA aero kit II and the side skirts don't fit quite right to the body in front of the doors. They kinda warp out leaving a gap of about 3/4". They're used... Any ideas on how to make it look good?
  6. I'm no expert but believe the stock bottom end can handle the 400hp. I would go with the manual. Considering how light the Z is go for horses more than torque.
  7. And what kind of mileage will that get Mike? BTW, when you say "signifigantly less money" how much would that be?
  8. Thanks for the help there, it's almost totally topcoated now with just a little primer (some of which is epoxy) so was planning on sanding it etc. without painting first. Shouldn't be more than a couple weeks 'fore I get around to painting it. Yes as a matter of fact that is what that means. Do you study?
  9. I know bondo absorbs moisture over time but can't deal with all the body problems at once and don't want to spot prime... how long can I leave it without worrying about it?
  10. I prefer a smaller design over the heart and full design on back and I favor the denim and then the black tee. One for winter and one for summer.
  11. #1 - go get a new/rebuilt starter. #2 - don't know, maybe the AFM? #3 - sounds kinda like a loose wire, have you tried smacking the dash? I've got something similar in my truck but it's the radio itself and I have to insert and then eject a tape to get sound back. #4 - front end work time... "Can a stock 280z take a 5.0?" I doubt it although alot depends on the driver.
  12. heh heh... you know what you call an italian with a broken arm? Speech impaired!
  13. As long as it really is rust free that sounds like a deal to me. Especially with the extras like the rims...
  14. Wow!! Those white boxes are incredible but it's the little red "x" that really puts the icing on the cake! Heh heh, why can't I ever see the good stuff...
  15. I thought they didn't make LSD's 'til '88. Can somebody help me out there? Funny that so many people mention the $3,000 figure... that's what I want for mine.
  16. Got the 700R4 now, can't stand it! The car's got the stock clutch pedal in it... how hard is it going to be to swap it? And what's the best one to put in... I'm a good parts swapper but not a great mechanic. Have a decent shop though. Just got a mig welder today! Dang I'm happy 'bout that...
  17. Thanks guys but from what I understand they should be able to handle 250 without a rebuild right? I'm just talking about upgrading x vs. y and wondered about the cost. What I'm really leaning towards is getting a 280Z and putting a 2.8T in it. Unless someone can show me it's cheaper to just get a Z31... I don't care for the body style though. And as the title says, I'm going turbo.
  18. I'm looking for the dollar amount I'd have to spend on upgrades (no need to list all the upgrades, I know most of them) to get to about 250rwhp. Don't have the car yet, just researching. I have been reading alot here and searching but haven't seen it stated X vs. Y amount. One more q, what about reliability? All I really want is a reliable daily driver that can beat the average mustang and camaro... I know the L6 is a long running motor... how about the 3.0?
  19. Wow, I'm sure sorry to hear that. I really have to say I think it's time to start "preaching". Nobody likes to do it as we all know how fun it isn't when it happens to us but... if you truly care that much you should.
  20. I took it apart, tapped it with a hammer and voila! Works like a charm. My thanks to all.
  21. Thanks guys! Took it off, flushed it, put it back on and had it working 'til I put the e-brake cable on. Took it off again to get the cable off easier and now the piston won't go back enough to get the calipers wide enough to fit over the rotor. Maybe if I put the hydraulic line on with the brake pedal down to pull the piston out when I let the brake go? Guess I'll try that.
  22. Anybody know where I can find a motor used or rebuilt? It's for the z32's, I hope I have the engine # right... Thanks guys!
  23. Got tires and alignment this morning, works great so far! Haven't driven more than a couple blocks as my rear disc caliper locked up... it's always something. I guess life wouldn't be any fun if it wasn't a challenge.
  24. '73 240 with Toyota rear disc conversion, the left rear is locked up and won't let go. I tapped on it but don't know much about brakes and was scared to do more. Any ideas? I ran a search but didn't find anything, if there's a site just point the way!
  25. I'm closer than zfan but that still doesn't mean I'm close! If you've driven across Tx you know what I mean. Go to zcar.com and look at the classifieds section, there's quite a few from CA. I know I'm always drooling over 'em.
