When you've got a wide swath of boring, flat aluminum for a dash it provides a great opportunity for a nationally recognized airbrusher / pinstriper to liven it up a bit. The artist is Steve "The Wizard" Chaszeyka (wizardairbrushgraphics.com) Now, I'm enjoying the dash every time I see it. It's just fun, I'm lovin' it! I'll have to cover the top of the dash while driving to knock down the glare. I need to come up with a clever way to temporarily attach some black fabric. Speartech makes stand-alone engine harnesses, which don't "integrate" into any of the present wiring. They do provide a relay for the fuel pump and include wires to control a fan relay, A/C clutch, back-ups, electric speedo / tach and fuel pump. Steve

I don't believe it's dinged at all. The sales guy's say that any damage would be noted. Most of the stuff in "Scratch & Dent" looks fine, I believe it's mostly returns. But if anyone wanted the cell I would, of course, check it out before purchasing it. Steve

Summit Racing has had this fuel cell in their Scratch & Dent area for several weeks, at $1500. It has an original price of $1836. Yesterday it was reduced to just $900. It's ATL's Sport Cell, model SP-112-ST4-LS-8, FIA approved, with a built in Bosch F.I. pump along with a fuel level and gauge. You can't call Summit and get any info on Scratch & Dent stuff, it's local pick up only. So, if any HybridZ'er would like this deal, I can help make it happen. I saw an ATL Sports Cell (FIA approved) in Summit Racing's scratch and dent section last week. I don't think it's damaged at all, but I could only see the top). 12 gal, built in Bosch F.I. pump, and fuel level sender w/gauge. Has a $1835 original price and it's marked $1500. It was $1350 the prior week, when all the scratch and dent stuff was 10% off. It will be 10% off again next month, if it's still there. I was told if it didn't sell here in Ohio it would be sent to their store in Georgia,( who knows when) and then Nevada. If anyone's interested in buying it I could check on it next month. I'd be willing to ship it to you. You can't call the store and get any info on S. & D. stuff, but I'm only a half hour away. $1350 would be a sweet deal. Steve

Yep, it's a GTO LS2 DBW... especially LOUD pedal!, and there's a learning curve to the thing, it's so sensitive!

I know this doesn't pertain to many of you, but if you ever need to mount an aluminum dash to the cage dash bar, here's what I came up with. It worked well, but accurately tapping both ends of the 3/8" bar was a bit of a pain. I dashed off to McMaster-Carr and got 4, aluminum, 1-1/2" I.D. clamp-on shaft collars, some 3/8" X 3/8" aluminum bar, and some stainless screws. Bingo!, took me all of yesterday, 20 taps slowed things down, but it went together nicely and I got a clean, simple dash. I had a sheet metal shop fold under (about 1") the front edge of the dash top piece ( as with cloth, they called it "hemming" the edge) so it looks like it's 1/8th" thick. They also curved back the bottom of the lower panel, for a nice touch. The sheet aluminum is about 1/16th" thick, "3003" type stuff, the best for bending. There's still more to do, the Digidash needs a hood over it, and I have an out of the box idea on how to finish off the aluminum. I'll post it... if it works! Steve

I agree, having a full cage in a street driven car is generally not a good idea... but, if you can snug the bars up against the lid and mount the seats as low as possible (pic of lowered seat mount) you end up with a decent amount of noggin clearance. Also, size does matter, and at 5'-9" I'm not sitting tall in the saddle either. So now I could be all safely harnessed into my Z, head room galore, having a great time... until someone rear ends me...gas tank ruptures, and I'm toast. This came to mind (again) as I read this week about the NHTSA going after Chrysler for producing cars (Jeeps) with fuel tanks located behind the rear axle. Steve

Car Craft (July 2013) ran a bunch of GM cams through a stock 5.3. Here's three notable ones. HP TQ Stock 5.3 w/ LM7 cam= 353 / 384 LS6= 376 / 389 LS9= 420 / 412 I'd be shoppin' LS9 I'm running a C6 oil pan ('05-'08 Vette) on my LS2 240. Good clearance, great baffling. Steve

I'd definitely prefer the "snug" version. I don't mind an improvement over the OEM piece. You may need the OEM versions for the restoration guys. Steve

Charles, thanks for taking this on, I hope you succeed! If you do, I'd probably get two sets of covers and one set of trim rings. (If that would be OK with you). I'd paint one pair body color (love that look) and the other set I'd leave clear for occasional night use. Would you foresee any problems, any wear and tear issues with the hardware or whatever, in swapping these puppies maybe 2-3 times a month? Steve

A 25% underdrive balancer is intended for racing and will slow down your water pump too much for street use. You could add an electric water pump ($$$) or go with a 10% underdrive. Steve
