  1. no news yet. car goes into the shop tommorow.. power outages permitting hehe the flywheel/clutch is starting to sound more likely.. especially with the engine running so well... except for the tapping.. I hope it is.. much cheaper to fix...
  2. Hey I've got a set of Epsilon 16x7 and 16x9 black mesh rims like you are inquiring about. 3piece rims. excellent shape. I'm only selling them cause I bought a set of 17" Simmons wheels. email me if your interested. Scott. ZR8ED@hotmail.com
  3. Whoops. The wheels have been refinished in a dark grey with satin aluminum accents. cheviot wheels 15x7 I'm interested in selling the triple webers and the 15x7 wheels/tires off it.
  4. Hey all. Well I did the right thing. I bought the car. it needs some wiring..most everything works, but the wiring job was done poorly at best. It needs rear brakes, a battery, carpets, and some exhaust work. The paint is good...no new rust..floors still look ok. roll cage is good. I"m getting some extra parts like a racing seat, and some harnesses, and the stock seats are ok. new front brakes, new clutch and electric fuel pump. the engine is awsome as well. It just needs little details to make it right. Here is a pic. (sorry but I couldn't remember how to get it to show up here..) img src<"http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/album_pic.php?pic_id=1505">
  5. well this is getting messy now. what we have tried/looked at lately.... put engine back together minus the valve covers.. can't see anything wrong. car runs..valve train looks good..nothing seems to be moving at the same interval that the "tapping" is. cam gears are tight and so is the tensioner, and no sign of rubbing on the covers etc.. main pully was tight.. no problems seen there either. looked at tailpipe again.. deposits are pure perfection.. o2 guage is reading approx 14:1 air fuel ratio.. perfect. alternator and water pump are disconected during this restarting phase ...just a quick startup to try and isolate the noise with all this other stuff off the engine... noise still there. main pully is off to. here is an interesting note.. when the engine fires, this noise makes a "ratattattatatat" as it starts then just goes "tap tap tap tap tap tap" as the engine idles.. (idle is near perfect..it has a few vac leaks with the valve covers off.) when you turn off the engine, the "ratatatatatat" noise happens again.. then engine is shutting down (slowing down) yet the "tap" noise speeds up.. kinda like something being whipped around. we checked the clutch/tranny (as the clutch was installed just days prior to the event) it does not feel like it is coming from there.. (held a hand against the tranny while the engine was running) with a hand on the front of the pan, it kinda feels like it is coming from that end of the motor. could a oil pump loose its prime?.. hmm it is driven by the crank in a vg motor... oil pump is brand new nissan unit. this is getting frustrating, as my summer dwindles away.. any ideas comments?
  6. I for one as a long time poster.. here and an old poster from zcar.com zdriver.com I love this site. It is by far the most tolerant and inteligent site I've been privilaged to be a part of. I agree with reducing some of the forums, and consolidating some.. there is no VG30ET swapper forum here, and I make out just fine. grouping some of the forums together is also a good idea.. the exhaust forum, efi/carb, and some of the miscelanious forums at the bottom of the forum list (can't recall the names..sorry) We still need a kind of a general forum as well. There have been some extremely emotional life events occur for many members here.. some good and some bad, and I'm am extremely proud of the fact that many members can actually speak of personal issues, and not get sandbagged by other members.. I personally have enjoyed this site, and it has helped me keep sane when my life takes a wild turn..(good or bad) I feel this is one of the closest knit groups I have been a part of..and its pretty incredible, when you consider that we chat with people in multiple countries, timezones, cultures etc.... I can see the need to reduce repetition in forums, and many people post questions in inappropriate forums so they can get exposure to the maximum viewers.. RB's for example could go back where they were in the alternate 6 cyl forum... that can cover all 6cyl swaps no matter what the make.. The high tech forum is just fine for some of the off the wall ideas..thinking outside the box..outside common sense as well... its a great place for wild ideas..you'll never know if something is possible if everyone assumes "it can't be done"...for ex..who would have thought in a million years, that a 1990 toyota 4 runner caliper would work with an 84 300zx rotor, on a 1970-1978 (northamerican) Z??? I do agree as well as there has been a huge increase in the # of idiot posts. Pop culture has seen to this, and it is something we are going to have to live with.. how we deal with it is important...I have watched good web sites deterioriate to nothing when the idiots scare off the solid core of a site and it turn into a free for all. I believe in a stern warning to newbies first offences.. as well as long time posters..I also believe in Banning people. I think a more visible warning about this is needed.. you want to post here.. be thoughtful..if not, then you may be welcome here...play nice...and so will I... No need for pissing contests. there is ALWAYS someone with a faster Z heck..a faster truck...ALWAYS. some mods are done for other reasons..just ask me sometime about mine...never judge why someone has done what they have done..hot rodders have always modded using items at hand, or readily availble to them.. sorry but there are not a lot of jspec engines/spare parts around here where I live..but maybe they are where you live..all the better for you. I also believe that if you can't control yourself after a warning..you have some issues, and this site is not free speech..someone else is paying for this site..you want to stand on a soap box, get your own site!..that can be your free speech..no complaints from me! This site is about all kinds of mods..heck, I've heard of people talking about electric motors for Z!, hyrdrogen, turbine power...wild aero mods, body mods to the extreme... but in a technical manner...if you want 12" wide flares, then so be it.. it may not be areodynamic, but it might look super cool...no need to cut someone up because of their mods. I know I come up with what many people might think of as rediculous, or just plain "too far".. thats cool..just don't flame me for it. If you want to flame someone..keep it offline! you want to flame me.. email me ZR8ED@hotmail.com I never start a fight I can't win, and you can't win on the internet..EVER!! Peace guys I'll offer my assistance if needed folks to watch the forums..I come here a lot, and read from most of the forums. Email me for any help/ideas. I'll stand up for this site.

Yes..a broken timing belt will result in serious head damage.
  8. We have pulled both valve covers. removed the rocker arms/lifters. we inspected each lifter, each rocker arm, each cam lobe.. nothing unusual so far. the valve springs are all good.. inner and outer. all the valves have come up the same amount. Well I'm just about ready to take off for the weekend. I'll think about cars when I get back home.
  9. We all agree that it does not sound like a spun bearing, but hey..anything can happen I suppose. It looks like the car is not going to the shop till next week.. I simply do not have the time to have it moved..ie and babysit it. The car does not fit on flat bed trucks worth a damn. I use long 2x12's to make starter ramps to get the car to clear the main ramp. (air dam is too low...doh!)
  10. I have a couple of pics.. no interior shots.. but I have some exterior shots. I'll post something up. I'm game for just about anything. The car is worth the 2k easily. I figure another 500-1000 to get it safetied, cleaned up and ready to cruise the streets. Personally I would not trust the car as a daily driver, but would make a fun weekend warrior. Its was kinda being built to be sorta racey, so it is a bit rough around the edges so to speak... It does have a dual exhaust on it now, but it not suitable for anykind of driving on city streets ie speed bumps... I'm interested in making some kind of deal..I don't want to let it go..even though I don't have much cash to spare for a car that may have to sit till next year before I can get too serious with it. Like I said..I'm about to spend some serious change on my z for critical repairs, and I have been unable to secure a deal on my 16" epsilon rims...If I could sell them, I'd buy the car in a second.... Thanks for ideas... Email me ZR8ED@hotmail.com if you want to hash some deals offline..
  11. The # isn't all that low, but low enough to be in the group of hand built 240's. Yea it is a shame the car was butchered...but it was Way beyond butchered before my friend got it. oh yea.. it also has the dual sunroof, and a whale tale. I'm still thinking about it.. I have some serious money to spend on my own z right now..plus I have a cool set of 16" alloys (my set of epsilons still for sale) that I could put on the really set the car off. Hehehe my girlfriend asked if it might be suitable for her to drive! anyone want to make me some kind of a deal?..I"ll do trades... The car is not so far modded that it could not be restored to original...at least NOS. The triple webers are worth something on their own, i suppose.. I could swap on a set of SU's I have and use the money to offset the cost... hmmm... oh man I am nuts....
  12. I have a 3.1 mega pixel Sony digi camera. it uses memory stick (cool if you have other Sony equipment ie computers, tv. I am really impressed. It came with a 16meg memory card, and I bought a 128 meg card for it as well... 250 pics with excellent printable quality. 1000 of Web postable pics... easy to use.. has some cool effects, easy to use, and awsome battery life.. I would recommend it to anyone.
  13. Hey all. I was just offered a chance at a 69 240z Chassis # 648. I helped a good friend work on this car 12 years ago... It has seen the road 6 or 7 times.. and I have driven it 4 of them. car has been in a garage the whole time. It was painted.. new floors (hand made..not too well..16 guage..but we were drinking while doing it) hehehe new body job with fibre glass front end/flares, custom side intake/vents/custom rear moulded in bumper etc... electric emerald green. visually the car looks good. 8 point chromemoly cage, upgraded suspension..lightly modded. stock brakes 15x7 alloy 5 star cheviot rims/ with new (10 year old rubber) (nice looking) engine has rebuilt webers on it. and the engine is very strong 2.8 etc...200+ hp. exhaust stops at the headers. wiring mostly works..but is very butchered..lots of 12 guage house wire in it.. etc... most of the interior is in it, and in average condition.. dash is more or less ok..new harnesses stock seats, new electric fuel pump.etc... I'm looking for some opinions.. As long as it finds a good home, I can do what ever I want with it. keep it and drive it sell it... can't scrap it... what do ya think?.. he's looking for $2K+ car was originally a show car back in the late 70's.. been sitting around mostly since then...
  14. Ok A quick update on my situation. new engine rebuilt in winter. 1000+ miles on new engine. engine is 1987 VG30ET. bottom end totally redone.. balanced shotpeened, polished etc.. hydrolic lifters are used and not matched to the cam. (1 newer cam from different engine) Car has been great during the breakin. took the car to a track day.. no probs. Thought I heard some minor clacking noise .. noisy lifter? at least one lifter made noises for a few seconds on start up.. (used lifters) I checked the oil, and it was down 1/2 litre approx (1/2 quart approx) due to front main seal leakage.. (minor) Car made the odd noise as rpms/load changed on drive home. came off highway and slowed to residential driveway, and the engine suddenly made MUCH MUCH louder constant clacking that sped up and down with rpms, but the decibles (loudness of the clacking is the same at 500rpm as 3000rpm.) turned car off.. towed car home to be safe. listened with stethascope..could not id.. sounded slightly on the right side bank. Mech thinks it is lifters.. not bottom end noise (99.9 percent sure).. 25++ years Z experience. (also built my motor.) ended up pulling both valve covers.. could not see visible damage to lifters/rocker arms, valves, springs cam etc... Car is to be put on hoist, and the rods/crank to be checked to be thorough. distributor is cam driven, and so is the oilpump (i think)..pretty sure water pump is belt driven. car still ran smoothly on 6 cyl no smoke from tail pipe.. deposits are brown/grey colour on muffler tip. no coolant in the oil. have not checked compression or plugs yet... compression felt good while hand turning. (seat of the pants) Possible sources of prob? lifter or lifters failed/failing conecting rod/bearing/wrist pin rings or ring lands????? not much else can make a clacking noise...??? ideas suggestions? the next step is to inspect the bottom end to be sure... if it is ok.. I may be forced to buy all new lifters.. ($79) each I recall. is there any way to test them?.. visually everything looks good. This will happen hopefully early next week.. anyone like to cast their opinion on what they think it is? I'll post the answer as soon we find out.. Thanks.. ahhh the cost of speed....
  15. Murphy sure gets around. The only time I see a Viper around is when I'm cruising in my Altima...yeeesh. Mustangs?.. eh. gas is too expensive to waste on those guys...
  16. Actually that is false. White paint is the heaviest (per unit) of all paints. It is also the poorest of hiders. White requires more paint to cover the car than black, which is one of the best hiders. (not referencing seeing dents in bodywork etc) The black car if identical to the white car, will weigh less..add this to the thermo theories, and now you got a car that is .00000005% faster. hehe
  17. Thanks. I'll stay away from it then. shame though it looks purdy..hehe
  18. BTW I would also note that the shift fork (correct term ??) the part the slave pushes against.... anyways they are not all the same size/shape on 240-280's I would also be looking for bending/cracking etc I've seen them bend then crack with wear... just enough to make clutching to the floor neccessary.
  19. Not sure if this will help guys, but someone asked about different slave cyl from different cars.. I have used a 300zx slave cyl on my 78 280 for years on my 4 and 5 spds that I have installed over the years.. As I recall it has the same part # at nissan. I am aware that I am currently using a 300zx slave cyl on my 300zxt t5.hehehe but that is not the point. hehe
  20. Update. Belly pan metal brake work is going too slowly. You'd think it would be easy to find a shop with a metal brake... and when you did, one that would want to do a quicky job (coupla hrs..all labour) Hahahaha I live in a car capital in southern Ontario..there is even a speed shop in my town that ONLY touches Porsche 914's!!! no 944's or 911's for this guy.. Another only touches late model chevelles... not early models...yikes! Anyways, I found access to a metal brake... now I can make some more progress again. gees.. it took nothing to do the cutting..but when ya want nice crisp bends (couldn't do it too well with the old vice bending method we won't go there..hehe) yeeesh. Custom work is time consuming work... still driving with the windows up.... and to think i'm going to attempt to polish this thing up when its done..ahhhhhhhh
  21. Well I'm still waiting on my clutch. I've read all the posts I could find here on different brands and such, and well..none seem to stand out as easy to set up and reliable.. they seem to fall into one category or another. I called my buddies at a Nissan dealer, that stocks just about everything for our Z's (parts manager was our club pres) hehe we talked clutches, as many of our crazier members are getting into some high hp applications. He recommended a clutch made by Bully. they are up in Ottawa, and do custom clutches. They have some experience with Z's as well. After some conversations, I ordered one. It will take 1.5 weeks to make up and ship to Nissan, then another few days to ship to me. It seems a bit of a risk for me, but I'll get over it I suppose. car is still running great.. I have reset the boost back to 8 psi to give me some leaway. I may be able to sell my clutch to a 300zxt guy running stock or near stock boost. Its a good thing no one has called me out at a light.. well.. besides hondus, and cavuleers hehe Word has gone around the local hang outs, that the car is meaner than it looks! hehe I have been doing lots of cuising, and passing through the hangouts.. just enough throttle to show'em some blow off valve. that'll hold em at bay for a while. hehe
  22. Hey guys. My customer bought a bunch of hose hoping to reduce costs, for their flexible paint hoses in the spray booths, and they were trialing some poly urethane hose. they have a ton of if kicking around after they found that it swelled in size when subjected to the solvents that I supply to them. whatever.. not the point.. The point is the guys said I can get my hands on as much of this stuff as I desire. I was wondering if I could use it in my engine bay.. vacuum lines and such... They have some small dia stuff, that I could use. would engine heat/manifold fumes etc have the same effect? I'll bring a piece home and try it, but i don't want to take too much if it is useless to me. The stuff looks beautiful, and would look great as an engine dress up.. Ideas?
  23. I'm bored with next to no life.. 35 seconds..hehehe
  24. not infront of the tires.. that would be cool, but I have not figured a way to make it work well...and look right. I mean run the right side pipe under the tank.. yea its low, but no where near as low as my front air dam.. I'm just messing around with some ideas.. I've seen them go under the tank before..just wondering about heat.. I personally don't need true duals.. (v6 single turbo) I'm fighting the dreaded exhaust fumes in the cabin, and I'm desperate now. I'm doing the rear belly pan to try and help fumes from getting in..I may be forced to redo my brand new exhaust as well.. (not happy with that) Spent a fortune on new seals etc... some of these mods have side benifits as well, but that is not my main goal.. no fumes... ok ok so a rear belly pan would look pretty cool... even if it doesn't fix my exhaust probs.
  25. Here is another Q. always mulling some new mod in my head.. lots of guy want dual exhaust, but lament about the gas tank being in the way of mufflers. How about if your mufflers were in the tranny tunnel (not sure how..this isn't the q) and you ran your duals on either side of the diff, then have them make outboard turns then straighten out and go straight out the back.. ok the prob is the gas tank is in the way.. ok well enough.. What if you had a heat shield..(or in my case a future belly pan).. would it provide enough protection for the gas tank? I"m still building this heat shield, and it made me wonder if it may open up some opportunities for exhaust routing in the future.. ie when this belly pan doesn't help my exhaust fume problem, and i end up changing the exhaust anyways. thoughts? would I cook my gas anyways?.. my current muffler is not far away from the gas tank in the stock location, so... some aluminum? sheilding?. Just thinking out loud today..
