  1. Thank you Mike. We all need reminders from time to time of the presiousness of life.
  2. I saw some Hybridz hats, and a few more T shirts. It sure would be a great idea for next year... I'll still customize mine with my name on the back...a hybrid hybridz shirt!!
  3. Thats kinda scary.. two failed hydrolic jack failures mentioned on this board in less than 2 months.. just proves it can happen at any time.. I remember redoing the floors with a friend in his 69 240 twice...we had a jack failure/slippage, and the car fell off the jack, and punched a hole through the drivers floor!!! Time to install floors i suppose..this time, he wanted 16 guage steel cause it was stronger.... heck of a lot harder to bend and fit as well we soon found out.. Well many cases of beer later, the floors were done...well one day while jacking it up to do a tranny change, the jack slipped and landed straight on the new floors... oddly enough, the new floors held just fine... still scared us when it happend though.. I think everyone has a jack failure story.. I have jack stands under the car, and I also through a big thick piece of wood under there as a back up... My life is worth more than the cost of a jack stand, or an oil change
  4. Bump! I will be posting more pics on my imagestation site as well. I'm just sorting through 160+ pics..some I can't show ya..
  5. Thanks Van! Yes It sure was a great kick off to the weekend. Thanks also to Tim for staying up and meeting me after I got into LA. Thanks to Owen for taking one for the TEAM! Thanks also to Miles for the spin in the dragonfly! Cool Zedding down the highway in CA!! The pre MSA meet should start to be a regular thing for us Hybridz'rs. Its too bad I didn't get to meet all of you. If you saw my shirt, you shoulda just yelled at me. Soooo many people came up to me, I was quite busy, and I only made one round of the show...and I was there for HOURS! hehehe you were all great, and as usual, everyone was friendly, and was quite willing to talk about their great Z's! Ok I'll fill in a bit more where Van left off. The Hooters thing wrapped up realatively early..after dark for sure. Though the hotel was not overrun completely with "Zed"s hehehe, we managed to pack ourselves into the hotel sports lounge for food, beer, games, and yes.. lots of Z talk. We ended up shutting the place down, and they threatened to toss us out on our asses cause they wanted to close. I did morning rounds of the hotel parking lot, and it took several hours to complete a lap just talking with all the other Z owners in the parking lot. Way too much fun, and everyone was very friendly...even if I did keep saying "Zed". I did not participate in any of the autoX events, or the tours, but many others did not as well, and those of us toured around the city, some scalped tickets to the baseball game 1 mile away, and yes..hit some of local nightclubs, gentlemens clubs etc.. :flamedevil: Fun was had by all, and even better stories...you all know who you are. Thanks also to The280gal. Vicki. It was great to meet you, and you were a great sport! Cool tat! and congrats on the 3rd place 280Z OEM class. The post MSA Hooters bash was also just a start to Sunday night. I never made it out of Hooters for a few more hours cause another group of Z folks were pulling in, and forced me back in for some more drinks. After that, a pile of Z folks were staying an extra night...we were all tired, but we forced ourselves to party some more, and we did all right! It was a very long night indeed!.. I need a vacation from my vacation. Monday I was on my own, and cruised up the coast into longbeach for some sight seeing, then on home that evening. Anyone else like to chime into to their little piece of MSA?
  6. Whatever man. I never once mentioned who you were. I was there, I know your situation, cause YOU told me all about it. YOU emailed me for his #. I came by the shop, and told him you contacted me on the net, and said you sounded like a real z enthusiast. I stopped by and showed you my car, took you for a spin, and gave you every bit of info that I could...including $ firgures on doing this swap, as well as your canceled mopar V8 swap, and your thougts on a nissan V8 swap, And yes I talk to a lot of shop owners and Z guys, and Supra guys. I have been dealing with my mechanic, and Z's for more than 14 years now. I know most of the Z tuners, and many supra tuners as well. I know what I'm talking about. I have always tried to help out Z'rs in anyway I can, and you took advantage of that. And your right about my mechanic. He isn't in the best shape right now. It doesn't take too many guys to not pay, or just leave and never show up again to hurt business. You went to him to save money as well. Your swap is a 5k swap, at any downtown shop, and I think you know it. I got off lucky, as he is one hell of an honest guy. My swap at anyother tuner shop would be double, and I know that for a fact!! And as far as parts and money go, I told you as well what you needed. Long before you bought that engine. If you don't bring the parts, nothing is going to happen to your car. I am at that shop twice a week, and I have not seen you, or any new/used parts..after your reactions, and inactions..no doubt he was not going to go out of pocket on parts for you.that is the quickest death for a mechanic...and on the gas tank..did you ever bring one yet?..I thought so. NO worries mate. I have met thousands of Z owners over the years now, and many more import/domestic car nuts. I've met all kinds. Just finish your project...and take my advice and make sure you build the rest of the car to support that turbo engine, and take care of that 240. This topic is done and dead. Period.
  7. Touche' Owen! Not fast enough? hehe Thats a good one!
  8. Hey We can't help it if our cars have traction, and tend to go fast as opposed to sliding all over the track. It would take a land mine to derail my rearend in a corner!!!
  9. I've got a Q.. more of a bit of an ego grudge match with some of my supra buddies. How well does a stock Supra tt stop? I do realize they have killer brakes, but have a serious weight penalty...oh.. we are comparing them to Modded 1st gen Z's... One of them is a bit pissed cause I walked him, and the rest of the guys think It was a fluke... That is where this started..hehe friendly at this point. you know the old story.. "well you may have had me ______ but I can do better at this" hehehe Anyways, these guys don't do road course stuff, so none of them will say (at least bet money) who can out brake or out corner who... PS I'm trying to talk them into coming to a Z track day, for some hot laps to test there machines out. Anyways.. how would a stock TT do? I have chased stock 300zx tt's around the track, and they were not much of a match against my 280...though I'm not sure I'd stake my reputation (meaning ego) on the line for who could out brake who... supra or Z? Thoughts? help? I'm kinda out numbered here, and I don't have a Z meeting for quite a while to hash it out with (speculate) hehehe Cheers guys!
  10. Z ya! a webbed intake? hehe man I'm not an inliner!, I am running a VG engine hehehe manifolds on both sides. Sorry I couldn't resist. I found some of that fuel hose coverings. I've also found a cleanable billet aluminum highflow filter.. might be better than a stocko Nissan metal cased filter...looks nice as well.
  11. I have the TurboXs type H. Mine only flutters as I lightly let of the gas under light boost. full boost if I take my foot off the gas, it just does one blow off. I'd also look at your vacuum lines.. remember it works off of a pressure differential... maybe the vacuum line is in a poor location?, leaky? too small?, too big?...to long? just some ideas..
  12. I don't use wax on my Z.. heck I don't even use water to wash the car.. I use "Waterless carwash" Awsome stuff. One of my buddies with a black supra the same paint code as mine, has been using it for 3 years..never once with water...not a scratch or swirl mark. I'm on year 2 with my black car.. no probs.. No point in adding any water into every crack or crevice on the car..Datsuns rust fast enough without help from me..hehe
  13. Also need to add.. Tempted to wear my helmet driving to and from work....oh yea...I can just see the look on peoples faces in the parking lot, as I strap on my helmet and get into my car!! Very sick I am.... so make that 7.. :malebitchslap:
  14. guilty on 6! Ohhhyeaaaa. I told you I was sick! :malebitchslap:
  15. Not for me guys. I'm not modding my frame rails/steering system again! HOLY !! ****!! on the WOW factor though...
  16. oh yea. I'll drop in. I'll give you a call after I get in. 9pm? too late? if not, I'll give you a buzz on Fri.
  17. I've since put on another 200km's I took the car up to the north end of Toronto for a quicky little photo session with the guys who sold me the wheels and who helped me out imensely. figuring out the measurements..I didn't have the luxury of the car to be able to get measurements. I went off of stock measurements, and some measurements I had taken before I put the car away, when I was playing with spacers. They just about freaked out when the saw the wheels on the car..even more freaked when looking at how close it all fits. They took about a dozen photos of the car and will use it to display their abilities to supply custom wheels for custom applications. Ohhhh yeaaaaa 8) All the staff came out, plus every customer that was there! hehe.. and when I popped the hood?... hehehehe I don't even need to repeat what they said... think along the lines.."holy ****" Made my day! Its gonna be a great summer man! Its all paying off now... Oh and the credit card?.. paid it man..I saved all winter for those bad boys.... Thanks!
  18. It came from an 87 turbo 300zxt i'm waiting to hear back from my buddy on some more info.. could be interesting.
  19. Oh yea. Nice work I like the shaved handles. keep us posted after painting. What colour btw?
  20. Thanks! It never occured to me about the winter gas! I put the car away in late fall, and brought it out early as well... hmm excellent point. I never had this problem last year with the car. The fuel system has not been changed, and I even drove it on the track in Aug with no problems...hmmm I'm still going to build a shield for it..I'm just planning something that will look good as well.
  21. Hey guys Sorry I don't have a pic, so I'll try to describe it. The diff was taken out of a 300zxt. When the rear cover was removed, it had two spider gears, and the large ring gear... now between these were 4 more gears. now I heard that an open diff only had two gears between the ring/spider gears. The question is this... is it a lsd?.. is it a viscous lsd?.. or does this thing have some kind of quaife???? The diff is owned by my friend, and he has seen many open R 200's.. and some lsd's, and he says he doesn't recognize what this is. he could not see what he thought would be clutch packs either. Any help?
  22. Hey guys. I was just out testing the new engine again, and found that everytime I stop the car for a while, when I go to restart it, it wants to barely run.. run on 5 cyl etc.. I pull away, drive for a min, and everything is fine...I can hardly get it to rev when I first start it, and I have to be extremely carefull pulling on to the road, cause it just wants to die.. But like I said, 1 min or so, and everything is ok again. Now my fuel filter if very close to my valve cover, and it is unlikely that I can easily move it. (last resort) So I'm wondering if you can wrap them with something that looks ok, cause it is very visible. I don't mind wrapping up some of the fuel lines themselves, cause I'm sure I can wrap them up and make it look good. What kind of material would you guys use? A simple aluminum shield may do the trick as well... or at least help..hmm might work well enough to determine if that is indeed the problem... Thanks.
  23. Artwork that what that is! hehe funny thing though, in that side view, I can just imagine that turbo glowing red out front...just like Rudolf the red nose reindeer... I'm sorry, I just don't know how I come up with crap like that.. :malebitchslap: Tres' cool James! Excellent work.
  24. Hey guys. I'm soooo pumped. I finally got the Z out of the garage and tested the new wheels, and started the initial break in of the new engine. I went for a 450KM run today, all across the top end of Toronto, and past Kitchener, then back again to the east side of Toronto. I still have a 4K rpm limit set upon me, so it was just a nice cruise, with lots of throttle position changes, rpms, shifting etc as I get the parts seated etc... It was a fabulous afternoon, the sun shining..people gawking.. catching up and slowing down for a look. I don't think I could have sped too much anyways... everytime I caught up to someone and cruised, I'd see them look at me in their mirror, then back off enough so I would pass... geez.. 8) (no I was not even close to tailgating) I squeezed the throttle a few times and took it up to 3.5K in 5th gear! wow! hehehe. The car performed very well, reasonably quiet (the solid diff mount has got to go) A few people came up and chatted at a rest stop where I pulled in to have something to eat and stretch my legs. One guy in particular was very interested since he thought my car was a Porsche!! He owns a 996 (twin turbo??) and was really impressed with my little Z even once he found out it was not a Porsche. I get that a lot.. what do you think? I also posted some new pics in my album. Man its good to be ALIVE!
