  1. To sweet ZR8ED, just to damn sweet. 8)
  2. Hi 'ya, Cruez. Goldsboro 8) I checked out your site. Looks good. As does your '77. Question Cruez , are you running a stock ignition? I'm looking at upgrading, but there seems to be a wide range of views if it's worth it or not on some zee's
  3. So true it's in the overlap.
  4. So true, the Officer said by the time the sniff law gets here ( Jan-2005), I would be exempt. But the EGR is a must since the car came with one. And the V-8 I out in it will need at least a EGR. I'm thinking of which way to go Mudge. V-8 or not to V-8.
  5. vodkaboy, did you find out your problem? did you already do a test on your fuel regulator?
  6. Dave240Z, thanks. I'm used to dealing with GM (HEI), and when swapping from point/condenser to HEI one thing you would do is chuck the ballast and run a hot wire (12volt) straight to the coil. So it caught me of guard to see one one my '77. Thnks again.
  7. Dave240Z, in your experience is it the norm to run aftermarket ignition with a ballast resistors?..... on z's.
  8. I guess I should introduce myself. I've posted here before but never really said "Hi". I'm an avid auto/aircraft buff. I'm retired from the USAF last year, aircraft supervisor for F-4 Phantoms and the F-15's Eagles. I lived in Europe for 14 yrs. I just purchased an '77 280z, with 5 speed. I cranked her up yesterday after I blew out the tank and changed the filters and oil. She started with no drama after sitting since '99. I let her run for a while to see what working and what not before I do the big tear down. So far the turn signal flasher is a no go. The only real rust issue is the right rocker panel. I need to swap that one out. The gentleman how sold me the car already put on lowering springs and stainless steel brake lines, and huge front and rear swaybars. . He also threw in extra doors , and wiring harness from nose to tail. ALL new gauges, extra seats, entire air conditioning items and a buttload of other stuff. I was going to swap out the L motor for a V8 but I think I keep this engine for now, for two reasons. 1) EPA and sniff test starting here in 2005. 2) I'm not the familiar with this car as she sits , so I'm welcoming the learning curve/challenge. Things I'll be doing is removing the motor and tranny the entire suspension, body work ( those Godzilla sized nail clippers for bumper have to go), upgrading the engine (as far as I can go) brakes and wiring.(I'll go more in detail as I get there). Considering I only paid 250.00 for her and that I'm not on a time schedule I hope everything turns out OK. I well be posting my progress. And yes... I will do a search before I ask a question. Now let's see if I can post a pic.
  9. Thanks you very much, livewire23 for that info. I'll give it shot. If you see a huge mushroom cloud, due east from were you are. I did something wrong. I do have a compressor too. alchohol and propane flame bath. Explain further please
  10. I'm in the same boat, fuel pump works fine, but it's not pushing any gas. When I removed the fuel line from the filter only fuel foam came out when the pump was running. Most likely I'm going to drop the tank and go thru everything and clean itr out. Since this was the first time my '77 has been cranked since '99. Thanks for your response.
  11. Hey livewire23, did you find out what was causing you grief ?
  12. Excellent read Dave240Z, thanks for clearing this up.
  13. I used seam sealer from http://www.eastwoodco.com/aspfiles/search.asp. Do a search under seam. I was very satisfied, as with all there product. and the Eastwood tech line has some outstandng people to answer tech question.

  16. As my 4 yr old said, "...... simply amazing....." Great download.
  17. OK, you all see this is a dated thread, but it's somethig I was wondering. I noticed on my inspection of my '77 Zee, that to my surprise it runs a ballast. Has anyone else had this above problem? or have most people redone there whole ignition ? I have used http://www.jacobselectronics.com/ in the past and was very pleased with them. It works as advertised.
  18. Hello all, as some of you all know I just got myself a '77 Zee. I finished up my inspection and this is what I found. I'm going to need suggestions at the end. First off the frame rails are solid as a rock at the way. With the exception of the last 3 inches on the left side. I ended up grinding to old cancer away to see how much was wasted and after 3 inches I got solid metal back. The battery tray and firewall are solid though out as is both floor wells inside and out. The only other major rust is the right rocker panel, it's basically non existent. So all in all I want to address these two areas the most logical way. 1. The left frame rail should I just weld a new extension on to bring to the original length or does it warrant a new rail? 2. Do the MSA side skirts replace or cover the existing rocker panels? I'm also going to use POR 15, that seems to be everyone's weapon of choice here. I used Esatwoods, corrless (sp) before and was impressed. But this time I'm going with POR 15. All in all this is pretty tight car, and for 250.00 I'm not going to complain, all the above area where known issues, so I wasn't surprised. The gentleman that sold me the car also threw in a wire harness from nose to tail a extra pair of seats, air condition hardware. He wasn't hurting for cash. Pulling up to his house, was like driving in the opening scene of "Falcon Crest"
  19. No luck at this end. The shop manual just skims over them. no ratings
