  1. Hmm, Lifters? as in hydraulic lifters? well if the head was a p90a then yea but this is a p79 so I guess I keep looking ah well, this ought to be a good learning experience for me. I do know its burning about a quart of oil every 3 to 4000 miles. Someone did suggest that the oil pump could be going bad and the engines not getting the oil it needs till things warm up? don't know, im still new at all this.
  2. 1fastz, what were the specs on that piston, Im getting ready to buy and was looking at ROSS,
  3. I think my l28 na has rod knock, I hear a knock increasing as rpm range goes up but only while the engine is cold, after warmup the engine sounds normal. I read the best way for me to determine this would be pull each spark plug wire one at a time while the engine is idling (while its cold and the knocking sound can be heard) I guess my question would be if this is the case can the bearing be replaced without a engine pull and tear down?
  4. A quick search about that comic came up with this link and different angle pic/drawing of the z http://www12.brinkster.com/takepon/wangan/
  5. I have a couple spare P90 and P90A heads laying around that I had considered toying with a DIY port and polish kit. I'd be interested
  6. If its the wiring that shorting out where it ends at the connector you could use a bit of solder to strengthen the connection; If you have the skill with a solder. If not try checking some local junk yards for a new harness.
  7. As far as I know the kit sold by MSA is the only one available, and I think its actually a Nissan kit. The crank can be found on Ebay quite regularly for about $250 or so, The 9mm Rods show up less regularly but can be found with a bit of hunting. The pistons in the MSA kit are cast and if your going to make a stroker and are like everyone else you might as well go forged pistons. According to the MSA catalog you can now even order forged pistons through them and perhaps even get it bundled with the kit but your still talking major cash. Those are the major pieces that you need, now you could buy the kit and pay $1800 plus, or spend the time reading everything you can find on the 3.0L stroker and use that time finding the crank and rods for perhaps about $350 or so. Just about anyone that has done a stroker could give you the info for the rings. there are several brands, Some people have had good luck with the Total seal gapless rings and others had major issues with them. There was a group buy awhile back for ROSS 87mm forged pistons for a 3.0L stroker. I wish I had known about the group buy cause the pistons were only about $450 or so. Perhaps if enough people are interested another group buy could be started.

  9. Damn! Damn! Damn! Ok ken we gotta get my supercharger running! There is no way I can have it going by SEZ5 to much to do and short on $$ especially since I now believe I have a bad rod bearing.
  10. Adimir, Who's black Z is that? I like those wheels, saw a set of them on a truck just the other day and was thinking "hmm those would look good on my Z"
  11. Good to hear that two years didnt break you! Glad your back!
  12. jmortensen, Thanks for chiming in. If you take the matchbook module off from the 82/83 NA there is only two wires, Green and Red. The Turbo unit has more though, I think it has 4 wires.
  13. Bah, my wife hated me working on the Z, mostly for the fact it was as she called it "Jap scrap" So I did the only logical solution I could think of, Divorced her! The car is comming along fine now!
  14. well, I don't look like any Bad a$$, which is fine with me! been told I looked more like Tobey Maguire in my younger days. I've studdied Taijitsu in the Bujinkan Dojo off and on for 10 years now. Figure I learned just enough to get my self in deep trouble. Maybe after another 10 years of study I will feel confident enough to get out of that same trouble. Now when I get the urge to bash some young whiper-snapper's face in I usually head to the garage and take my frustrations out working on my car. Usually after getting my hands all chewed up trying to replace some dang rusted in place part I go have a beer and feel much better.
  15. According to MDS Tech support the MDS unit may be bad so I am going to send it in for repair/diagnosis. I will let everyone know what happens when I get the unit back. After I get the MSD running I plan on then upgrading to Megasquirt.
  16. I picked up the relay box from http://www.a-e-a.com./new_page_2.htm which used a different component which allowed the cover to be on the relay box. nicer setup and worth the extra couple dollars spent.
  17. Datsunlover I have the wires to the battery, the orange/black to the coil Red to the 12volt switched ign source and the violet/green to my distributer but got no start. I followed the instructions for testing. I have 12 volts both at ign on and cranking. When I tried testing the violet/green wire test I would get no spark but heard clicking from the MSD unit. I know the coil is good since the car runs in the stock setup.
  18. ok, I've done searches but can't seem to find the info I need, Im trying to wire up a MSD 6al to my stock 83 NA. which wires need to be run to the distributer? Violet/green or run the white wire to the original -coil wire? Also if anyone has done this will I need the tach adapter? Thanks John
  19. Nice work Mike, I like the motor mount idea you came up with. What did you end up with as far as firewall clearance and hood clearance?
  20. You might want to do a search on this forum for KJones, Tech Editor for Sport Z mag and knows a bit (alot) about supercharging Z's and might could help you with a mount for the SC.
  21. Can you swap out a 82/83 NA distributor and replace it with the Turbo model for running megasquirtNSpark? and still keep the car a NA?
  22. LOL, Their not all dumb though. One afternoon I was stuck in traffic in my 280zx, Faded paint, hoods a completly different color, a SUV with 3 or 4 college aged girls leaned out the window and told me they loved my car! Said it was cool looking.
  23. Yep, I bought a wire harness from him as well, first rate product and seems to be an excellent guy to deal with.
  24. Well I would be more than willing to facilitate that!
