  1. im looking for a series one shell i have tons of parts for a series one but im missing the shell so if you have a clean nearly unrusted (easy rust is ok as long is it is in the floorpans) no frame rail rust...i dont need the motor trans interior pretty much the car and wheels(so i can get it on a trailer)...cheap as possible and a clean title would be nice...near tn or in the surrounding states...i also dont need the fenders hood grill inspection lids ect. and would prefer them to be off so i can inspect for rust...thanks
  2. i know where your at i bought the motor out of that car....hahaha...but ive got enough 280zx's right now but im sure i could help find a buyer
  3. most of the rare parts on a early z are the tool boxes behind the seats, the steering wheel, an uncracked dash, the 2400 valve cover, the non hole heat shield for the carbs, the air box without the lower tube, and the seat brackets and adjusters are different than the later 240z's....nice car love series 1...i just picked up number 7081 and my buddy has 5xxx
  4. are they 2 side by side or are they across from each other...i think if you use some heavy duty locktite on them you'll be ok...the 4 will hold it as long as they dont vibrate loose
  5. trust me if i built a 200hp 2000 lb car it will destroy everything in the class...ive seen them all race and im going to race my daily driver up there, 240z stock l28 and 5 spd trans...nothing special but ill let you know how i do...
  6. this is a very very budget build...probably like a $2000 dollar max....so the l31 is a little out of the league...whats wrong with a 14:1 compression l28 with a radical cam? this build will be about what i can make with what ive got... and i wouldnt like to build a l31 cheaply because ive known a couple ppl to built it with a budget and have a very under powered l31 or have a big $2000 dollar disaster....dont get me wrong there have been a couple of ppl who have built the l31 and got away with a good reliable motor but i dont want to take my chances(plus if i build a l31 it would probably go into my personal 72) but it has been proven time and time again the l28 race prep'd with very high compression and a radical cam can do very very well...which im gonna do most of everything to save on costs so maybe by the time i get the body done i may change my mind...but for now im leaning toward a nicely prep'd l28 with flattop pistons, radical cam, and possibly tripples...but i honestly do appreciate everyone's feedback...keep it coming
  7. guys im asking 360 shipped for the 4:11 diffy...pm me if intereted because ive had a ton of ppl ask but no one seems serious
  8. well thank you for your ideas...but i forgot to mention what im wanting to race in..i would be in the stock modified import class...if i was to put a turbo motor in the car or a 350 that would bump me up to either the sportsman class or the modified unlimited....which a 350 could not keep up with just about anything in those classes(twin turbo'd corvettes)...thats why i want to run in stock modified import...the rules are no body modifications, no suspension modifications, and no power adders to the motor such as turbo or supercharger....im wanting to build a l24 or l28 the looks very stock and dominates the class...
  9. im trying to put together a very budget build drag car 240z for the drags down here in tn...and i thought id ask everyone here for help...im looking for a good bit of parts at either very cheap or donated....any and all help is very apreciated and would help a ton...im trying to build a 240z with either a l24 or l28 with roundtop su's (thought about boring them out to 50mm but dont know where to find butterflys and shafts from the jag. su;s) (havent decided between a 4 speed or auto tranny)... now i already have the car...i have 2 l24's both need rebuilds(one has a e88 head and the other has a e31 head) i have an auto tranny and 4 speed tranny(series one 4 speed)...my plan was to use one of the straight 6 engines and get about 14:1 compression with a good cam(of coarse running race fuel) ive got a wish list if anyone could help let me know: a decent cam (with supporting valvetrain if ratical cam) very very low gear'd diff 4.38 or lower if possible bucket seat small steering wheel any aftermarket gauges any race orintated parts any suspension better than stock any race prep and drag experience tips any cheap machining work any cheap labor any cheap power coating and painting decent clutch and flywheel like i said its gonna be very budget build thats why im asking for anyone and everyones help...im not gonna be picky at all so if parts are usable but need some work that fine with me...and if there are any tips, advice, or help that anyone offers i will take it gladly... oh and i will be posting many many pictures of the build and video's if and when it hits the track...and anyone who helps me out would be more than welcome to come to tn and drive it down the strip....thank you all..
  10. look on the bright side...you were told it was a 280 and it is, it just may be a different year than you thought...think about ppl who get 240z's and come to find out its a 280z...big difference there... but its been mentioned before but ill say it again anyway...make sure none of the vins match stolen vehicles..if not then your good to go
  11. i have a 85 turbo 200sx 4.11 diffy...unknown condition to me but p.o. said it was in good condition with no problems...
  12. i have a throttle cable setup for su's somewhere...it uses the linkage between the carbs and the rod with the ball joints and the one linkage that sits in between the balance tube has been modified to have a wheel style throttle linkage setup and has a bracket that bolts to the top left su bolt that holds the throttle cable steady...ive only got the modified center piece for the cable and the throttle cable holder..10 bucks and its yours(to cover shipping)...i can get pictures if you want
  13. well ive been on this forum for sometime now and haven't felt compelled to start a project thread until now... here's the story well i got this 1972 240z a year or so ago(previously owning a 280zx but hated the look)... found it in kentucky near lexington...the previous owner just did a full brake tune up on it before i got it replacing everything the dealt with braking, also put new tires on it and put brand new weber dgv's 32/36's on it, and redone the whole interior with marble blue vinyl..it had the original motor and trans ...i drove it back spitting and sputtering the whole way...after some time and work i ditched the dgv's for some good ole' su's and drove it like that but it still spit and sputtered..so i parked it and started working...i put on.. a clean gas tank(old one was cruddy and rusty, explains the sputtering) zx starter new battery zx alternator swap zx distributor swap axcel coil fully pollished n36 intake with non egr balance tube electric fuel pump new fuel lines and filters racing bucket seats(more for comfort than looks...and oh are they comfy) full poly bushing kit 1" sway bar in front 7/8" sway bar in back rebuilt the 4 screw su's new clutch master cylinder new clutch slave new clutch hose well the car was drivable but was not to my complete satifaction because the p.o. rebuilt the engine but did a crappy job(oil was coming from every whole in the motor although the engine still ran ok i knew it was near the end...plus the clutch slipped all the time skip to friday of last week.. i was driving to work and about 1/8 of a mile from work when my motor completely locked up well had it tow'd to my buddys house where i started pulling the motor(found out that the oil cam bar bolts came loose and ruined all the valves) well i went the whole nine yards and replaced just about everything f54 block, flattop pistons, p79 head, new clutch kit, resurfaced flywheel 5 speed trans, rear main seal, intake/exhuast gasket,(i have a headgasket and valve stem seals but waiting to see if i wanna do some head work or get a different head) and swapped everything over from the l24 with a set of 6-2 headers...jtr radiator, new hoses... to do list... i have the zedd findings floor pans and frame rails just need to be installed.. also have all original black interior just needs to be installed... need to install the rest of the bushing kit(the rear) also have new suspension..kyb struts with ibox springs needs to be installed also need to tune carbs for the l28(was tuned for l24) and set ignition timing for l28 also need to fix leak in exhuast(its getiing on my nerves...but makes a nice flame ) wish list... electric cooling fan mild cam(and mild prepped street head) front air dam my goals are 200 hp and torque at the wheels on a pretty reliable motor...with a very stock looking apearance...let me know what you think or if you have any tips...thanks cory http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r7/tlw13/Picture6033.jpg http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r7/tlw13/Picture6049.jpg http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r7/tlw13/Picture6054.jpg http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r7/tlw13/Picture6056.jpg http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r7/tlw13/Picture6057.jpg http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r7/tlw13/Picture6058.jpg
  14. ...ive done it on one of my cars and also got the idea from a master painter thats been painting for over 40 years...you can get it thinned out enough to to be almost clear....id say i would be just like putting the msa tinted covers on....after i done mine...the lights were relatively the same and you could see them during the day....but as for the legality you"ll have to check you local laws...cause it wasnt illegal in nashville tn...or atleast they didnt inforce it
  15. all you do is get the color that matches your car and spray the headlight cover with that color and a whole lot of thinner...its best to do some sample sprays on some like plexiglass first to see if you thinned it enough(use a flashlight to shine through it to see if you got it right) it took me a lot of practice but i sprayed my old integra's headlights and taillights like that and looked great and didnt affect the brightness of the light to much...
  16. thats been on there for quite some time...lowered the price a few times also
  17. are you jacking my thread and low balling young z?
  18. ive never had problems with the su's getting out of tune...those screws should have a spring on them so they dont move..if its on there then its probably worn out...and it its not then you should get some...as for the mixture screw it should have a circle piece that screws on the bottom of the carb and keeps it from moving...hope this helps
  19. 240z!!!

    v-8 swap

ive got some v-8 motor mounts and i also have a jtr radiator...i believe the mounts are for a ls1 and the jtr just got installed a couple of days ago to make sure it had no leaks both are new...they are for a s30 chassis
  20. if ive put this post in the wrong place then forgive me..but i thought this would be an appropriate place... was just wondering if anyone has ever had anything spectra chromed...or anyone who's had experience with it...pro's con's? i might know someone who could chrome some parts for me with this system..but all i know about it is its a spray on system...and i dont know how durable or actual chrome looking it is...thanks cory
  21. i need a cheap 240mm flywheel off a turbo car or a 2+2 2...please post price shipped to nashville tn...thanks cory
  22. i disagree with theghosttanker...i had those things on my 240z and neither me or a 40 year chevy mechanic get those carbs to run my car better than good old su's...those are weber dgv's 32/36's with cannon manifolds...that setup brand new from msa is 1000, i conisdered mine junk and sold them for 50 bucks and some 4 screw su's but you might get lucky and sell the manifolds to someone needing them and then sell both of them individually to some of the datsun truck guys and make 400-500 off them
  23. looking for a 5 speed trans...z or zx doesnt matter but has to be close enough to pickup or cheap enough to ship...has to be in good working ungrinding condition also looking for a good set of springs..
  24. well i was thinking a getting a wide band so tuning wouldnt be a problem...i already have the custom box design i just have to make it...and ive been using su's for a couple of years now and have rebuilt and tuned at least a dozen of su's and made custom tapered needles for my buddys autocross 240z...so i have some experience with them and wouldnt mind the task of trying...ive got some time and a little money so experimenting wont hurt...if all else fails i have enough stuff to make a efi setup... as for the throttle body injection idea...i have also researched this option but it still doesnt satisfy my old school hunger enough...it does sound like a very nice and stealthy set-up...but just not for me has anyone actually done this or known anyone who has?
  25. ive been debating this for a long time and i know most of you are thinking...go with some tripple carbs....but im very old school and would love to do a turbo set-up with 4 screw su's...my plan is to use the original su airbox as a starting point...take out the air filter weld the box up then weld a piece of intercooling piping on it to connect to the j pipe...ill be using a zx e12-80 module distributor...a f54/p90 set-up a zx distributor...and will probably be using a stock j-pipe for a while because im not gonna run much boost anyways....other than the very obvious reasons...what would be the up and downs of using the setup? any helpful adivce would be apriciated...and this should be a mature thread i dont anyone going "thats just dumb" or "just get tripples" if you have those comments please dont post..oh and i have searched the forum and also searched google and some other places but nothing was very specific
