  1. i ment on any z.... ive owned every version of them 240z, 260z, 280z, and the zx....i think it makes a lot more sense over there....except if you wanted to work on the starter or alternator...but anyhow they never provide enough light anyway....
  2. i was wondering why is your inspection light mounted by the brake master? just curious cause i always thought they were all mounted by the fuel filter on the other side
  3. im having the same problem....i just rotated the sparkplugs in the right order so that when its at tdc the rotor points at #1 sparkplug....not at number 1 on the cap
  4. its not the stock bottom end to be worried about its the t25 unless you have a newer sr with the t28....safely id say 12 lbs...you could probably get more but its not sertain it wont blow
  5. nope i was wrong v8's are 130 with a 20 core and insurance on it is 30 (optional but recomended) and trannys are 50 with a 9 dollar core and 10 dollar insurance....here's a list of how much everything cost http://www.pullapart.com/Pricing/Main.aspx these are set prices....as long as your not getting anything for a honda youll be ok...cause those things get raped until the point were theyre unrecognizable heres a list of the cadillacs....they only stay on the lot for 30 days or so...so if the date on them is more than 30 days old theyve probably been crushed.... http://www.pullapart.com/Inventory/SearchDetail.aspx
  6. if your willing to pull one.... pull a part in nashville has many cadillacs that still have full motors and trannys and pull apart is really really cheap i think 150 for a v8 maybe 200 but no more than that...the trannys are like 75 bucks
  7. i mean its running but not very very good....it still has a sputter and it still ticks horribly....and ive adjusted valve clearance first cold and then hot...but only 2 were out of specs....it kind of sounds like pinging but then again these valvetrains arent so suddle....im gonna try rotating the spark plugs some more and see what that does but in the mean time....these ideas really help...thanks to all who replied
  8. x2....if the engine isnt locked up it sounds like your flywheel or starter gear is messed up...or some bad grounds
  9. but for the most part you are correct...nissan wasnt worried about keeping track with anything but how many of these cars they made...so you can get a blank one of those vin plates and stamp any motor # on them and no one would ever know....you can even get the paint code stickers and there is no set in stone way of telling the original paint other than that little sticker...which you can buy with any paint code you want....but if you really know these cars you could tell if someone did something like that...you just couldnt prove it
  10. so i rotated all the sparkplugs up 1 whole and what do you know it worked....but will this cause a problem if i leave it like this or will i have to rotate the oil pump shaft eventually....
  11. id say 400ish every 6 months so 800 a year thats if you pay every 6 months...but fyi if you do it by every month it will be a lot higher like 75-100 a month
  12. sorry i forgot to include that i did swap the base of the distributor to a 280zx base and i even put a new gasket on it....(the 240z bolt whole is in the back while the 280zx is in the front)
  13. when i got my first car when i was 16 (a 280zx) 2 door 2 seater t-tops it was only 86 a month i think....for liability and uninsured motorist on my dads plan....but when i got insurance on it by myself when i was 17...i had my 1998 cbr 600 and my 280zx through state farm it was 48 for full coverage on the car and 24 for full coverage on the bike(you get a big discount if you get insurance for a second vehicle) and thats with a perfect record and no tickets
  14. exactly....they really dont want you to know that it can be rebuilt cause if you know then they wouldnt make a 100 dollars a pop on them....if it was put together at one time by someone it can be taken apart...
  15. if its truely matching #'s it would be worth keeping b/c you wont get much selling or scrapping it....the way to check is there's a vin plate thats on the passanger side shock tower in the engine bay...if the bottom vin # matches the motor vin then you have a winner
  16. hears what ive done....and ive searched.....this is a 280zx distributor w/ e12-80 module my car is a 1972 240z with the l24....my car runs good with the distributor about 2 inches rotated toward the block (i have pics attached) it sputters and dies whenever i try to turn it back enough to bolt it up.....i put the motor at top dead center by taking the vc off and making sure both the valves on #1 are closed and by taking the spark plug out and feeling when the air blows by my thumb...after that i pulled the dis. cap and the rotor was pointing to #1 on the cap....this is where ive been stuck at for 2 days....and after 2 nights of searching the archives....please someone help i just want to be able to drive my car!!!!

  18. actually any of the z cars fan clutches can be rebuilt....i dont think theyre ment to be rebuilt but it can be done....the only thing in it is some grease....and about the only reason they lock up is cause the gease dries up
  19. so no one has some extra linkage lying around?
  20. just for future referance when i had the same problem but had to drive my car all the time and had to order in stuff...i just put 2 wires to jump off the starter cylinoid and hooked them up 2 a push bottom inside the car.....it works temp.
  21. there is a guy from ebay thats selling a ton of z parts he has many parts cars....honestly your best bang for your buck and an easy install is a l28 stroker....if your wanting to go turbo, most of the l28 na motors can easily be turbo'd......just do a search on na to turbo conversions..... best of luck
  22. you can just fix the one on the front just take the two halves apart and clean it up and fill it up with 90w gear oil....thats what i did to mine when it locked up and it works great now
