World Class T5 and Tranny Tunnel Clearance
fl327 replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
dont think you need to hammer for trans clearance, but you should hammer for exhaust clearance, and remove stock datsun mounting horns,. -
i think it depends on preference and mechanical skill more than cost, for a quick 200hp turbo is easy, because motor and trans is an R and R, and some very simple wiring, to get to start you basically just need to wire up the sensors and i believe seven or eight body grounds, click boom start, guages and lights run off whats left of original harness, and there you go. a couple bolt ons, big exhaust, and ic will give net you around 250 at the wheels at about the limit of stock injectors on whats otherwise a bone stock system, that gets some incredible mileage and has good street etiquette. you can get more, but at this point you have a really fast street car, most cars on the street dont have this much. a v8z is a nice one as well, for a bare bones conversion, you still need to get a kit to mount everything, a handful of custom conversion mounts, some elbow grease and you will have yourself a bruiser, but heres the difference, you are doing a complete conversion and basically building a kit car at this point, i think the v8 swap takes more thought, and attention to other aspects of the ride in order as nice to the driver as the turbo swap, and im not saying that this cant be done, but it will add costs to the v8 conversion, the motor and the trans are the easiest part i think, everyone i know has an sbc in their basement sleeping, and a trans to go with it most of the time, but you have to beef up everything frmo the driveline to noise to the chassis-but they are fast as hell. turbo is easier because its all nissan, and im not saying this cause i think nissan is the greatest or anyting, but everything bolts up like factory-i wouldnt even really call the turbo a motor swap, because you dont have to fab anything for the driveline to set in, the v8 though is a swap-and requires a lot of thought to be truly complete, basically, its what you want out of a car. i had a v8z for a long time and i would do it again definitely, if i had more time to address the comforts and other issues besides all out speed. The v8 car was amazing i have to say, every muscle car tire smoking move known to man was mine at my whim, smoke at speed, oh yea, smoke em in a turn, watch me, smoke em upshifting, best believe, that thing was a kick in the pants, double pumper opening up making you feel like youre in a wind tunnel, I wont ever be mad at a v8zcar, no siree, they are a blast. The choice is yours, and there are pros and cons to both, but in the end 11s arent cheap no matter what.

I think his grandma gears were holding the power back, that Chevelle has a menacing 454 big cam headers flowmaster idle with nice paint. That combo tuned should be good for like 400or more ft. lbs right???
-
did you guys already use the vice grips
-
regardless of which four speed it is, i dont think youll have trouble with it in a z car, if you do tons of freeway it might kind of suck, in my z i would be stuck up at 3k doing 60, which is like 4.11's but i had 3.54s and tallish rear tires 225-60-15 on a 7" wheel. i only broke 1 four speed in my four year reign of terror, and thats from rear seal failure over time, not the gears themselves. davy-tell em how that yoke looked!!! for street brawling, that trans will do you fine, and it will have you setup for any stick trans, starting with a stick is going to cost a little more though. and yes, the gears are like tow trucks, i had a nice wide ratio muncie though. on the street you have the gearing to blow the tires loose like a champ though.

i likem too, hey they put 302s in those things already, and it would fly, but the price of doing one is probably same as doing a real one, if your stang isnt too body rotted.
-
i would have to say yes ernie, unless you can get to my old z at the auction, where it ended up when some body stole and crashed it....its the green 73 with no rust, and no fenders.

some locksmiths will come to your house, call around and find one that specializes in automobiles, you will be suprised at what these guys can do, downright scared sometimes, tell them the scoop they should be able to hook you up in an hour or so, but may be kinda pricy, almost or maybe more than a new ignition switch, oops this is datsun we are talking about, price the switch first, then call around.

any shifter kit will work, cable or linkage, man thats what i used to like about american cars....
-
in denver they make you guys smog cars that are that old??? man that stinks, are you sure that they have to change out the cam, that sounds real drastic

muahahahahahhahahhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa this was just great. a while ago my buddies helped this guy we know swap a 454 with a four barrell and headers from a pickup truck with t400 into a beautiful 69 6banger chevelle, for get this 500.00!!! yes, my buddies are a little older than me and it seems havent changed their prices since the early 80s. this car has a very lopey idle, and goes great with that six banger suspension thats really loose, no posi though, dude doesnt even know what posi is. everytime we see this guy hes trying to get sideways and giving up one leggers and telling us how great his car is. the guys a weirdo, he wont even let teh guy who dropped that sucker in drive the car around the block, but the other day we saw him letting his girl drive the velle! he lives about thirty miles from me so i dont see him at all usually he doesnt hang out alot. but now im staying at my dads house this week, and im driving the turbozaurus wrex around town, oh yes, oh yes indeed, i caught mr. big block driving. he gooses it at 40 and i can see his kickdown isnt juicing me in the least, so i catch him at the light and start screaming "hey robbie, you should have left that straight six in there, you might win, (i was completely confident i would get him, judging how his car doesnt bounce away from me on the kickdown_) he screams back, nothing can beat me, ( said like a true sucker) im holding em up to boost at 3-3500 making sure im spooled up good on my baldo tires, light goes, i drop it, and i cold walk away from the guy, he was close in first, but i just walked, once i hit third i was ghost, my 200 horse just worked him something awful, i still dont understand the guy, it was all in fun, but he wouldnt even look at me at the next light, and all i wanted to do is say hi and turn off the hot strip. fun.

2004r is about the same size as a t350, you dont have to anything major for it to fit, ive never had a z with auto overdrive, but in my firebird i knew that it had a superlow first with 700r4- just by flooring it i could get sideways. if i were to buy a v8z with t350- i would go with 2004r after i blew the packs out of the 350, mount for 2004r should be same as a t350

i want any 510 for my next car, probably a wagon, thems are cool,

Recipe for a powerful/reliable 2.8l turbo+tranny setup
fl327 replied to a topic in 6 Cylinder Z Forums
i would just have him dump a bone stock motor in, with exception of fmic, bigger fuel pump, adjustable regulator, and a bov, turn boost to 8-9psi, and run that 280zx stock auto with a good rebuild, dont make your mechanic do a whole buttload of custom work besides the actual swap, you will have too much fun with that setup. -
"i need to pimp it out tho ya know." = "I would like to express my individuality with tasteful custom options". or- i need to make my exhaust extrememly noticeable. "Word" = "Yes sir, you're right!" ---------------------- this can be used as a response to anything, good or bad. ex: "lets go get sushi" word. "wasnt that car ugly" word. "yo, last nights show was off the rictor" yo, word up-the "up" is extra emphasis. "true dat." = "Yes, sir, you're right!" --------- i agree. thats great. "Preach on." = Lone is lonely in Arizona. "thats the rilla." = "That's the idea!" -or- "Yes, sir, you are right!" ------------------- rilla short for real, also means, "yes!" "dope." = "Gosh, that would be nice!" ----"awesome,great, good even" instead of saying dope- i say crack when something is reall really dope. ex: man that broad down the way is cold CRACK! "fo shizzy my nizzy." = "I got no idea what's going on in my life, but I look *fabulous* in these pants, don't I?" -----------for sure, my um, uh "buddy" "are we going to have stickers, clear tail lights, and a big bookshelf wing next?" = "Waddup da bit shiz?" (we gonna get fairlady 327, to match his engine combination we are going to aerodynamically modify our cars to take his low, mid, and top end power advantage, but we will not use one wrench, how mad will he be?) fo shrigadel. i live in the san francisco bay area, home of the super slang, to this day i would use a ton of slang but one of the great four moderators told me to cool it in a private message, so i have been. every district has a different slang, and sometimes only the locals can understand it. but dont worry, its all gravity.

i think the rb motor is one of the few alternative sixes, there is 2jz, 7m, and GN, i think they all fit good in the alternative six forum, although there has been a lot of rb26 and l28et action these days.

people on this board like od a lot, i do too, but i love four speed manual american transmissions, i would drop it in so quick it would nt be funny, its a good starter motor and trans combo, youll be quick.

if its one of the first times youve touched a car, i would go with a nice carbed 350 and an auto and convert to stick when youve got the bugs out of that setup. -
the energy suspension poly coupler i bought had these sleeves that went into the bores, and it worked good, but i went to abs plastic because that what was in before the poly and when i had poly felt it was too soft.

man whens bobs grumpy, hes grumpy. oh well. i was talking about swapped sr20dets with minimal mods except turning up the boost on stock jdm setup, i have nothing to go on besides that, and both cars we did buzzed pretty good. what i am saying is this, my v8 car had 250hp and 300lbs, at best, and it punked the silvia but a lot, when it was running 10psi which is close to my hp levels and torque would be upper 200s, but at a higher rpm. he would have to launch well at 2500-3k to stay with me just dumping the clutch off the line in idle with the v8z. with my turbo L28 car, i have about the same levels of hp and tork as the silvia motor, maybe heavier in the nose whatever, but at 10psi im roughly where the silvia is at, but the power comes on really low (due to my baby t3) and i am confident i would walk good on the silvia, but not all out anhialate it like big red would have. hey im not trying to upset anyone, im just doing what anyone here is doing, and relating things to my experiences and my point of view. im not autoxxing, drag racing, none of that, im a car enthusiast that likes tuning and building funny daily driving cars that will go to the track and have a ball, and drive home and get a slurpee .
