spend the money now on some nice new ones, dont cheap your engine into early death.

ive been driving the turbo car for quite a while now, raced it once beat a 5.0 (that got me amped) then its been like three weeks no racing, and im not looking for races. a 1979-83 rx7 with a turbo II swap rolled on me, and we went for it last night, took him for two lights, close ass race, he beat me by a fender once and i smoked him out the hole, had to stop saw a cop and pulled off the main strip. just now going to school an accord six deep rolls me and drops the clutch on me at a light, i walk away and let off, thinking this is lame, and he ill takes a turn doing like 65 in that fwd with intense body roll and his front wheels screaming, almost crashes, and throws his hazards on me like he got me, man it was just terrible. next light, a cute girl with those superstar sunglasses in an integra launches on me and procedes to cut me off, i start goign for it and pass her and get off the gas, she starts crazy weaving through traffic and almost kills herself slamming on the brakes to stop for the next light! do they know that im not running the 327 and think its time they got the W's back over me or what? I always tell myself this car is for driving with style and not all out racing, but lately it seems like every car that gets next to me wants to take the title i thought i had retired with a long time ago to become a civilian again, looks like im wrong. im still not gonna race this car very much, but after i get thru this suspension and neatness stuff. those events above were the crazier ones, it seems every car i get next to try to test the turbo, i am enjoying this.

id get a bentley, biggest one plushest, most gold, most bezel, and get it run 10's on pump gas with six people in it.

im too american, must read in hg or lbs or i get lost.

use the 240 turn signals and cut out the 280 grillj entirely. 240 grill may work, but an intercooler makes the nicest grill

dazz motorsports, there was a z in turbo magazine that ran 17x8 and x9 in back. they came from there, i think they are chevlon, they are jspec and pretty expensive, bolt on to stock wheel studs and offset though.

black- easiest to paint, hardest to keep looking clean, my car is black and i have to glaze it every time i wash it to keep it looking clean, im gonna probably paint it cadet blue with more silver- silver-hardest to paint-easy to keep looking clean. white-the hardest to paint for me-eyes get lost in the finish, real easy to keep clean.

i like the 280zx's, the turbo car is setup for some major power, i have heard the rear suspension is not like the earlier, but im sure it can be modded up pretty easy to handle well. frame is tough, and very comfortable. i cant say ive had 300hp in a 4cyl, but i can already imagine how peaky it would be, the sr20 510 had 200 or so hp, and it flew! my old civic had about 175, it flew! i would punk LT-1 cars up to third in that car, but if they caught me slipping at the launch i was toast because of the high rpm powerband. i just cant get away with smog that easy, as easy as an early body, plus the older body looks more "old school" -and thats the best thing about having some high techish motor that makes forced induction noises, its plain just bad ass, rolling to spots makes you feel like wangan midonite. there are different types of hp, and you know im not going to do an sr or an rb, because of funny parts, i like 2JZ, because supras are here and parts are more available, just expensive. good luck with the sr20, i really still feel its too small, and even smaller in a zx.

LT1, go to the auctions and buy a taxi or a cop car, most taxis used to be cop cars, then hog out the whole drivetrain, and those hoses, all silicone hoses, huge fans, straight beef, plus cops and taxi drivers get full service every 10k, just make sure you get the trans rebuilt, they are always faulty in those cars.

i dont think tuning dual carbs is very hard at all, i would go with dual carters or edelbrocks, holleys are pretty hard to dial in exact, but they run hard when they are. the carters or the edelbrocks tune easier with those knobs and jets that come out the front, but is this a sbc car, may be overkill, but man the sound of those things opening up. man. holleys are harder to tune, but if you went that route i would go with dual 390cfms.

single 3 works good in early z body, dropped trans w/o dropping pipe, fell in love with the system then, now if only i could do the same with the diff...

which wears out- steering knuckle or tie rod?

wheel might have fallen off balance, it happens. only way to know sure is to take it to tire place and have them check balance, should be close to free anywhere. -
rb makes that 300hp easier than the sr20det, revs higher and better and will smoke the sr20. hey do what you want to anycar you please, the sr20det car we did was very quick, but my v8 car made him by the crew lunch, it was stock but we turned him up to 10psi. same thing in a 510- that thing was ferocious, but still enough for fl327, but would have beat my turbo car by a few, but the 240sx would not have-not by a long shot, and thhts with my L-motor. imma gonna stand by my claim, the sr20 is too small for a z unless you need it for a weight advantage in a racing class and it does make great sense as a handling advantage.. on the street where most of us drive most of the time, hey i have the turbo L car, now its time for somebody to do a sr20det Z car and really shut me up.

it will buzz pretty good top end, remember a potent clutch and some 3.90 or 4.11 gears in that combo, and it will be a blast.

just tuned up turbo car. did the timing with a timing light, and it was weird, idle would only be smooth at extreme retard, like almost 30 degrees retard, then if reved would shoot to 20 advance. im new to turbo stuff like this, i know its electrical controlled, and i liked how it would jump consistent like that. also could it be the cam- custom ground four degrees retarded. at anything less than 25 or so retarded idle would get funny, it was like i couldnt get retarded enough, im just wondering, car runs really well right now.

700r4 is a little wider, andyou want room for the oil lines too, trans is about 3 inches or so longer than 350. trans mount mods are needed, but minor, uses same bushing after all. you will need a converter for 700r4, should bolt right up to the flexplate. a little fluid, a driveshaft, and some heaving and youre good to g.

i agree with the dsm guy, the 7mgte swap is a nice one. im still not into the sr20det into a z body of any year. 215 hp not enough for stock output? the stock 2.8 turbo motor makes 180 at the flywheel, look at the power you can make out of that engine before you have to break the block open. i wouldnt do the rb25 or any rb until it came in a car here, which doesnt look liek it will happen. 7m's are cheap here and plentiful, but hey if youre gonna go with crazy motors from japan, get real crazy. sure an sr20 has some good power, but its for a wittle car. whats up with the 7mgte anyway. if i could i would straight go with a 2jz supra motor, closest to rb werer gonna see that has replaceable parts availability in the states

the sr20det is not just for a small car. do you know you can get these things up to 300hp on stock internals? The sr20det is also in the 180sx, and guys use them in their 240sx's. Now the weight is about the same for an old z and these 240-180sx's. The sr20det is very light also. It would make for a great handling car. If you got a few bucks to up the boost and cool it, go with the sr20det. some of these guys dont know what they are talking about. trying to say that i dont know what im talking about? arent you the guy that runs second hand dual carbs on a 280zx? ive had a hand in doing two sr20det swaps, one in a 510 and one in a 240sx-ill take the l28et over the 240sx, but the 510 plain out hauls ass. z car with one would be ok, but would you put an l20b into a z ? NO. if youre gonna go crazy with jspec motor-GO REAL CRAZY. sr20det at 300hp wont handg with an rb25det at 300hp-no way, no how. and sentras suck.

it all depends on what you like more. at the time, i was really into muscle, so i had me a muscle ass z car, now im into smooth driving-but i dont want to be slow, and ibelieve i know these z cars in and out, spent enough time lying underone to know, so i went turbo. handling, driving, time slips whatever, what it boils down to to me is having a great car and what you think a great car is. i will drive my turbo car to las vegas right now im so confident in its reliabilty, i couldve done it in my v8 car, if i had od, but you know me, any v8 car that i ever do from now on out has to have a four speed, dont care i love me them four speeds. now for hp and torque-i think the v8s have it, getting it down is the issue i think with the v8 guys, is getting it to the ground and taking care of issues relavent to any car that goes under such a radical transformation-and to me that is where the initial cost is greater, but hopping it up once you got drivetrain locked down is no big deal, mail order companies thrive off sbc parts, and they are so competitive that they get real cheap, plus kragen has sbc parts lying in the shelves like there is no tommorow. the turbo swap has to be the cheapest, i layed that sucker down in a matter of days from drop to drive. but to get high hp out of the motor and outstanding top end, you have to start really doing your research and start fortifying that sucker, but in the end it will fast as hell. l28 with carbs in a 240z, its good power too, and that one will take anyone with two friends and a cherry picker half a day turn the key and be happy. i dont have outright nasty power goals for my car, but i aint buildin me no punk thats for dang sure, im going for around 250 or rwhp-believe me that much in a z car is enough to take down most things on the street, i had around 250 in my v8 car and was smoking things left and right. but i seek to maintain ultimate drivability and the style that comes with driving these bad ass cars. if you like raw muscle power-v8-be prepared for intense prep, fab, and labor, and somewhat inexpensive to hop up.(stock block will take 100 shot if healthy, believe me i know.) turbo-good power, great gas, going real fast will get expensive quick, but drives lighter, and you make a whoosh noise. the choice is yours.
