  1. This is my sons band. They opened for Gwar last year at a horror convention in Worcester Mass. Hes the horn blower
  2. It looks strong side to side but I would add some gussets front to back. Also, did you use screws or nails?
  3. Well, when something seems too easy, its usually wrong. The motor set back into place perfectly, everthing lined up dead nuts. Turns out, the motor also needs to shift !/2" towards the passengers side to give some clearance for the turbo and steering column.Back to the bandsaw ang welder.
  4. Good lord, look what you've done!!
  5. I got the mounts done and clocked the turbo.Everything was welded inside and out and Por 15'ed When the paints dry, back in it goes.
  6. Thanks alot. The actuator is off and will be modified to work in its new location.
  7. Here I am with my younger son. He's the one getting the SR20 in his Pickup. I only have fishing pics saved.
  8. This is gonna sound stupid, but...how the heck do you do it?? Theres no perimeter bolts to just loosen and rotate the compressor like there is on every other turbo Ive seen. The usual bolts are on the hot side but thats it. I need to rotate it so the WG actuator clears the steering column in the 521 Pickup. Help!! Please
  9. Heres how close it was to just dropping into perfect place. I'll replace the old isolator with a beefier set with the same dimensions. If only everything else went this easy.
  10. I recieved the motor just as Karim said and its v ery clean and fresh. We stripped off all the stuff we wont be using and bolted the tranny up.The engine bay was ready for the new motor so we tried to drop it in.Unfortunatly. theres not enough room to put them together so back out it came and after seperating the two, we were able to drop it right in. Surprisingly, the stock SR mounts dropped right onto the isolator studs only not at the right angle. So some minor rework is in order.Heres a couple of progress shots.
  11. ZR8ED's car is pretty badass and is prolly the first to swap a VG30DET motor.
  12. Its a 115v machine.Ive got a millermatic 185 for heavyer material so I wanted something thats totally portable and can use anywhere.
  13. I just picked up a Millermatic 140 today.Unfortunatly, my bottle has straight argon left over from doing some tig welding and it will be a let down to use anything but the CO2/argon mix for its first arc.Tomorrows another day.
  14. I hope its as good inside as well. It tested at 160 psi += across the board, the turbo has no play per the finger quage and everything is clean and tight.
  15. you are correct sir...they came out of my 240 when I upgraded.
  16. Its in...now I can see whats needed to get it all to fit.Surprisingly, the the stock SR motor mounts lined up with the trucks mounts and dropped right on.The mounts need to be cut and welded to get the proper angle so they sit flat to one another.I'm going to need a tiny altenator , does anyone know of a particularly small alt? Ive heard that a sm tractor unit will work.Anyway, its nice to make some progress.
  17. still hanging around waiting to get the time to drop it in ( hopefully today )
  18. Cost is a big factor. Us turbo guys need a plenum either way.
  19. I cleaned everything up, replaced all the bad lightbulbs and organized all the tools.I get a little giddy staring at the SR and RB sitting in my shop and then I remember how much work is ahead of me. My son and I will drop the SR in the truck this weekend and start laying out all the mounts. Fortunatley, theres a good rightup at Ratsun.com on this swap that will be very helpfull. Heres a couple of pics of whats happening.
  20. Great idea Mike, she looks like she's having a ball.
  21. Got me a shippment yesterday, A nice shiny SR20det Blacktop with tranny and all the fixins. So far, I'm very pleased with what I got.Karim did everything he said he would and then some. Great guy to deal with. Heres a few pics from Japan prior to shipment and this IS the exact motor I recieved. I emphasize that because you always hear about guys getting some engine other than what was advertised and then you never know if the compression/leakdown tests are really from the motor you recieved.
  22. I too like Braaps the best but even that wouldnt go on my car..ix'nay on the ecal day. Let the car do its talking. JMHO
