  1. Could you explain the tall front tire idea? I'm sorta new to drag racing (gone about 6 times) Also, the clock starts when you break the beam so reaction time doesn't count. Just the way they do it for street-night i guess. Thought i'd mention it in case it has any bearing on your shallow stage recommendation. If it doesn't, could you explain that as well? Thanks. Always willing to learn to be faster
  2. Thanks for reminding me about the tooth adjustment on the AFM. I added that to the MODS section i've done above. So, you couldn't get it LEAN enough through the RPM range or just @ idle? All i've ever read is that is goes balls lean somewhere around 5k rpm with the stock ECM. I usuall have the fuel pressure @ 38 at idle with the vacuum attached and could only get it up to 42 when at the track. I will try backing off the timing a little next time i go. One thing's for sure, that L28 was heating up pretty damn quick. At the lights the temp gauge was a line above cold. At the end of the 1/4 the temp gauge was nearing 3/4! lol. Not safe, i know. 19psi was just for the track. That was the highest the gauge went, near the end of the track, when the most load was on the motor in 4th gear. I run around 16 on the street.
  3. Hoping someone can tell me if i'm thinking right or slap me upside the head and point me in the right direction with this. I'm using an MSD 6A right now. What i want to do is while at the track, build boost for the launch. I have lin-loc but it's tough to use with the 5sp and only a second to set up once you're staged. I've read some here and have done some research on MSD's 2-step and it seems like it's what i need. I also saw the RPM Module selectors that can be used in conjuction with the 2-step but just wondering if i can use this for the low setting for the 2-step? It would be nice to have adjustability like that so you can change the launch rpm easily for different track conditions in cabin without the need to have a bunch of pills. I'd also like to integrate my line-loc and maybe a micro switch on the clutch so it releases on launch and also add a shift light so i don't have to guess at the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. So... i know, lots of questions but i just want to get it right before i start buying. This i what i think i need to get... MSD 6AL (PN6420) replacing the 6A RPM Module Selector (PN:8670- range of 3000-5200prm) MSD shift Light (PN:8952) Micro switch I'm not concerned with over-rev protection so i dont need that feature but it looks like i'll be getting it with what i want to accolmplish. Maybe there's an easier way i can do all this? Any help is appreciated.
  4. Hey Mike. 18psi in the DR's, stock timing (20) and i did add 2 gallons of 104 to the 4 gallons of 92 i had in there. I was pinging right at the end through the trap so i didn't want to raise the boost much more. I also couldn't raise the fuel pressure past 42lbs @ idle with the MSD FPR for some reason. Have to look into that. I'm not sure if the ping was from not enough fuel pressure (est 61lb @ 19psi) or that the 370 injectors were jusy maxed out. Could also have been because of the 9000deg air the T3 was forcing into the cylinders! ha.
  5. I hope so too Z-Gad! I just want to hit it and actully do some upgrades! That would def help Thumper but it's my daily/fair weather driver and trying to basically run it the way i drive it on the street. I was launching @ around 4500-5000rpm and slipping the clutch very little at the end of the night when i was pulling the best 60' times. What burns me is that on the last run i made, the DR's slid a little off the line which i lost a tenth on the 60' which would have put me into an 11sec 1/4. All in fun i guess. Thanks.
  6. Hey guys, thanks. Just spoke to the wife and explained how close i was and that they have a test/tune on November 13th that i'd like ONE MORE TRY So, i just may go for it once more this year. Need to really look into that two-step to build boost off the line. Sounds like that would help. You're right Terry, once i really let that clutch out and the 60' came down, the 1/4et was really effected. I had lin-loc but didn't use it at the tree last night, just for the burn out. I had the video camera strapped inside the Z but haven't looked at it yet. I doubt it'll show much but if it's good, i'll post it. I ran BFG drag radials 236/60/15's @ 18psi. Hooked nicely. Here's my setup right now: STOCK '82 L28ET & ECU T3 (@ 19psi last night) P90 3.54/CV's '82 5sp MODS NPR IC 1G DSM BOV Act clutch/PP MSD 6a 370cc inj AFM sping tightened 18 teeth 235/60/15 BFG Dr's 2.5" DP to 3" exhaust MSD FPR Walboro 255lpr pump Mind you, this is NOT a safe setup and i'm sure i was pushing the limits and then some, but it's just the way i want to run while trying to hit an 11 before i do the upgrades i have in the garage and be safe again. I haven't seen anyone do it and someone told me it wasn't possible, which is why i'm still at it Thanks again guys.
  7. Yes, stock T3. Thanks but i REEEEAAALLLYY wanted 11's before i rip it down for the winter. Tonight was the last "street night" when only street legal cars can run but... they do run on weekends until the end of November. Hmmmm... lol.
  8. Thanks Mike. I just got back and i didn't do it. 12.004@114.62. Close but no 11's. I found 18psi to work pretty well with the BFG's tonight. Thanks for the recommendations to all. Here's the post about my night... CLICKY
  9. Sorry mods, just realized i post this in the wrong area.
  10. I did the best i could guys. Close, but no 11's Best: 12.004@114.62mph 12.004!!! Unreal. That close to 11's and not getting it! O'well. I made seven runs tonight. Here's how it went... 8:14pm - 12.413@112.98 - 2.018 60ft 8:25pm - 12.309@113.31 - 2.004 60ft 9:03pm - 12.330@114.02 - 1.980 60ft 9:15pm - 12.110@112.98 - 1.815 60ft 9:37pm - 12.201@114.21 - 1.957 60ft 9:44pm - 12.004@114.62 - 1.786 60ft 9:50pm - 12.014@114.77 - 1.887 60ft I was in line, next to go to make one more run before the track closed @ 10pm and the GSXR1100 that went in front of me wiped out about halfway down the track. He was alright but they shut the track down. Best i could do on the T3. I'll scan the timeslip in this weekend.
  11. Thanks guys. It's going to be cool out tonight - high 30's - so i'll guess i'll start around 20psi and go from there. Best 60' i had with the ZX 5sp and the 3.54 was 1.96, when i ran the 12.4. I put lin-loc in recently so hopefully i can cut that down a little bit. I feel sorry for my clutch and the baby T3 I'll post results tonight or tomorrow.
  12. Going to the track tonight (reaching for 11's w/T3!!!) Just wondering if anyone else is running the BFG 235/60/15 DR's and if so, what have you found to be a good PSI to start off with? The first and only time i ran them i used 24psi then dropped them to 22psi. Seemed ok but just wanted to see what others have found. Thanks.
  13. Got it, thanks zcarnut. Unbelievable difference from the 3.54 open to the 3.7 LSD. I need to get me one of these!
  14. Putting the '88 LSD in my cousins '78 tonight and i remembered i snapped the socket that i used the last time i took a pinion flange off. Anyone know the size of the nut and what the torque on it should be? Just would like to stop on the way home from work and pick it up rather then having to run out again. Thanks in advance.
  15. Trans comes right out under the ramp. Suggestion - buy yourself a creeper if you dont have one. It becomes a little bit of a stretch to reach everything without one. Then again, my arms may be shorter then yours since i'm only 5'7. Good luck with it! You do feel so much safer when you're really muscling the Z around when you're under it.
  16. Do the Z31's have stub axle flanges like our Z's? If so, do they mate with either the 240 or 280 stubs and/or, can we use the entire Z31 stubs/flanges/cv halfshaft combo? Thanks.
  17. I put a line-loc in the Z about a month ago. Hopefully to get to the track this friday for the last 'street night" of the year and try it out. Looks like i'll have to read up on the "two-step" everyone's recommending.
  18. It does make it nice to work under the Z and much safer when you want some breathing room underneath. Only problem is as Jon mentioned, they're always there and tough to move around so if you've got a designated place for them to always stay and don't mind pulling up on them every time you pull into the garage, they're great. It's also nice when you want to look at the suspension geometry while it's sitting on all 4 tires. You can get to everything under the Z when it's on the lift. Made a recent tranny swap actaully enjoyable! lol. There's a black brace that actually spreads both ramps and locks into groves that can slide front or back so you can use a (bottle)jack to lift the car off it's suspension. A friend of mine was getting a "real" lift and just gave these to me. Not sure if i'd spend what they want for them.
  19. Thanks Jon and thanks for reminding me that the 280zxt stub axle flange i used was 6 bolt. Been a while since i've done the swap! I just got a look at the 300ZXT halfshafts and that outer bolt pattern won't match up with either the 240/260/280 stub flange. It's much bigger and looks like the adapter is needed to use these halfshafts. For the length of them, here's a blurb from Ross's site: 300ZXT 4 bolt outerflange CV shafts (not the 6 bolt type) require the end cap removed, and inner CV race reversed, this effectively shortens each CV shaft 3/8" and results in correct rear geometry for your Z So the length doesn't look to be a problem, just need the adapter i guess. Think i'll just use the 280zxt halfshfts for now to get it up and running. Thanks again.
  20. Hey all. Question: Does the outer cv flange bolt configuration on the '87-'89 300ZXT halfshafts line up with any of the 240, 280 or 280zxt stub axle companion flanges? My cousin just picked up an '87LSD that's coming with the halfshafts and would like to use them instead of the 280zxt halfshafts that he's runing now. I do know that ross sells adapters but was just wondering if they were 100% necessary to do this swap. Thanks in advance.
  21. I'd like to see what the rims below would look like on the Z below. I'm tired of playing with photoshop. I've come to realize that i just suck at it! lol. Thanks for any help.
  22. 12.4 is correct on stock T3, stock 82ecu, 370cc inj and a 3.54 open. That was from last year, the last time my Z saw the 1/4. I'm hoping to get back there in 2-3 weeks and provide some 11's evidence
