New paint job has lines - opinions please? Pics inside...
tightywhitey185 replied to zeeboost's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Yeah that striping is all in the basecoat.Once they cleared it they locked all that striping right under it.It absolutely will not buff out.Im sure that is a little more dificult to see in the garage but when you pull it out in the sunlight you see it like a boner in sweatpants?Well if you need to beat them downt with technical paint jargin id be glad to help you but they really need to respray this. -

And if that is a basecoat clear coat paintjob it will not buff from what i can see.Striping like that happens in the basecoat on metallic colors. -

From what I can see in this photo it looks like the metallic is what you call tiger striped and what i call modeled. Is that a base coat clear coat job or a single stage? Most times painters will have a problem with metallics modelling lke that becuase they arent using the proper reducers for the ambiant booth temperature. If they are using to fast of a reducer in the base it "stripes" or models easily becuase the paint isnt flashing properly.I myselflike a reducer that takes a long time to flash thus letting the basecoat stay wetter longer and flow and do its thing with a slightly bigger tip in my gun.what you are getting there isnt uncommon and yes it is technique as well as reducers.DO NOT HESITATE TO HAVE THEM RE SPRAY IT.Do you know what the charged and what product they sprayed it with? -

How does one get the girlfriend in the loud "scary" Z car...?
tightywhitey185 replied to josh817's topic in Non Tech Board
Thats a funny story.I remember when i bought my 0 mustang gt the first thing i did was put a full set of pipes on it headers x pipe and american thunder mufflers on it.Dont kow why they call them mufflers at al it is louder then hell and you kinda smell like gas after a long ride.Anywho there was this girl i was seeing and we were drivin around she sais where are we going?I said baby we are just cruzin. No one seems to just cruise anymore.I droppedher off and she said to me.......you really need to fix your car and put some mufflers on it!hahaha. bough my 260 and it really is in the brunt of its restoration right now.My current girlfriend stopped by while i was laying under it scraping undercoating off the bottom with a scraper and a blow torch.I said baby come down here and gimme a kiss she said no!I snagged her hand and pulled her down and kissed her and and got her all dirty and she laughed.I kept her.some girls dont really give a damn what you drive some alls that matters is that its clean and quiet. Most girls wont be as into cars as you its about finding one that respects your interests. -
I need some insight on how to identify this motor.I have in fact tried researching this with the search tool on here ie engine identification, vin locatoins etc to figure this out but couldnt get anything too specific so dont get mad at me guys.I have a 1974 260z with a tag that sais manufactured 1/74.I know for sure that it is an early 260 becase the signals on the front of the car are below the bumper rather then in the grill. The factory paint code for the car i believe is 302 green leaf metallic. The car is now red but has been painted that way a good ways back but whoever did this before me did a pretty good job cutting in everything red like under the cowl below the wiper moters all the jambs pretty much everywhere except the floors and tranny tunnel where it is still green and underneath where i spent hours scraping old undercoating off.My buddy the previous owner said that he things the origonal car was an automatic tranny. The car now has a 4 speed manual.I know for damn sure the block that is in the car sais L24 on the right side of the block towards the back below the head.I hear everyone talk about all the specific identifications for what they have as far as what head what tranny what intake etc.How do i figure this out.It is also running 2 weber dgvs 2barrels wich seems to be pretty uncommon or at least un popular...why?where do i find all these identifications on this motor?I seem to have a bit of a bastard here but the car is really damn clean.Any advise please please.

I think im going to just rent one...I called the same supplyer today and asked if they rent they said yes.45 dollar deposite,8 dollars a month 27 for a fill and i have t buy their regulator wich is 90 bucks......I might be able to live with that
-
ahh yes the rental...didnt think of that.
-
Does anyone know what the average price for a tank and regultor should cost?My local supply told me a tank and regulator will cost me 250 for the tank 90 for the regulator and 27 to fill the tank.Do i just bite the bullet and do it or is this rediculious?I couldnt find any but one on ebay.I have a really old tank that went on an accetaline torch that stands about 4 ft tall. Can i just get that one filled with argon/co2 or are the tanks gas specific?

I started dating my girlfriend about a year and 10 months ago,a gorgous red head and right then i knew I had to have her.I did everything i could just to be with her doing things I wouldnt regularly do on my own time.Sure enough we get an appartment together and you know im pretty much in that cycle.Another month goes by and a buddy of mine intoduces me to the 74 Datsun 260. 800 dollars later she was mine.I love this damn car.It needs some love but im willing to put the time in to do her right. Now i spend most of my time with the datsun work hard to get it done step by step but Ive started to notice the fact i just might be neglecting my girlfriend. Some days i think i might have an issue with the fact that i would rather grab a 18 pack on a friday night and work on the datsun rather then go out to some fancy night club.Am I sick?I think its fairly common for husbands to neglect theire wives for there project cars.I feel gulty sometimes but damnit i love working on my car too.Has anyone else had this problem.Women get pisse sometimes at my obsessions.Id love some insight on the situation.

yet another media blasting question
tightywhitey185 replied to redneck1545's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Well lets see here i was in the same sitiation and with mycar I started knowing nothing about media. Most people in my area "columbus ohio"quoted me anywher from 350 dollars to 500.I mad the mistake and got cocky at first trying to do my engine bay with a hand held blaster with walnut shells in my poor mothers garage. It will MESS UP a one car garge blasting ANYTHING.wallnut shells are good mostly for polishing like for example a tranny or something soft like that not so much for rust. The smaller the media and silica content the better. If you really want to get the car bare take it somewhere like you planned but i dont think you can find a media shop who will do it for less then 400? -
So ive seen many Zs out there with 240 style rear bumbers and i would love it on my 260Z but im also toying wit the idea of welding sheet metal into the releives and filling them togofor thesmooth no bumper look for the rear end.Someone toldme though it not might be legal and i could get pulled over.Cmon i doubt a cop would really give a damn or know the fact that it should have a factory Z bumper. What do you guys think

Vent knob and floor problems
tightywhitey185 replied to AkumaNoZeta's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Have you peeled the carpet back to look at the interior side of the floor pans?To me it looks like someone has cut out the stock floor pans due to rust and replaced them with some sheet stock and did a quickie floor pan rust repair, sprayed some foam in there to keep water fom entering.Th e stock rails that are supposed to be running underneath the floor pans dont seem to be there though i cant see the pics too well.
