I have a '79 located in Austin. The price tag will be much less than $1400 though there are a few more things it will need such as an instrument panel for the dash and some wheels/tires. I'm pulling the engine/tranny for myself (it's got a blown head gasket anyhow). I was going to pull the rear end and sell it though if you want the whole car I'll leave it in and just factor that in to the price. Yes, the KA24E is a flat (nealry) top whereas the KA24DE is dished. Pins, is one better than the other? On the Rock Auto that price is per piston as well as the cost of rings on top of that! They are way expensive....I've seen sets of 4 for far less. Catch of course is that I do not need 4, I need 6. I have considered buying three sets of 4 and splitting one like you suggested. Would prefer not to go that route though unless I have to.

It sounds to me like he needs a stock flat top from a non-turbo '80-83 280ZX as these had the F54 block (the '79 280ZX still had the N42 block w/dished pistons).
