  1. 3 coats of clear on it now. I'm hoping to get the base plate redone tonight as well so I can start fabbing number 2 tomorrow.
  2. Here's what I came up with. I used a metallic charcoal and black. It's much darker in person. I think the flash made it lighter. I still have 2 more coats of clear to go and then cut/buff.
  3. Thanks guys! They are painted and dry, but I'm not happy with the finish. I used that hammertone paint but it didn't really...........hammertone. I still want to do something different other than straight black. I'll figure out something and post up some pics.
  4. Well, just got the first one painted, but didn't get any pics. I'll have some up tomorrow to show the full effect of the paint.
  5. Thanks! Good thing, too, cause I already welded 1/4" hose barbs on my air cleaners.
  6. Alright, done with the fabbing on this one and started smoothing it up. Hopefully I'll get it painted tonight.
  7. Yep, cut the circles with the shear. It was pretty tedious, but I was surprised at how smooth it cuts. Just a little finishing with a file, and they're good to go. I'm gonna go buy a 1 3/4" hole saw (hopefully) from Home Depot so I can finish this one up and get it painted. I'll have more pics tonight.
  8. I should have my ZTherapy round tops sometime next week, so I went ahead and started making my own air cleaners for them. The K&N part number I'm using for these is e-4518. They're 7" O.D. and 3" tall. I'm going to copy and paste most of this from another forum I'm on. Alright, got started on the air cleaners tonight. On a side note.......it's been so long since I fabbed something, I forgot how much fun it is! The mess I'm working in.......... By the way, all you fabricators out there, if you don't have a hand operated shear, GET ONE! I got this one for under $100 on ebay, and it has been a life saver. It cuts this 16 gauge like butter. A little decoration..... Not really any purpose in it, other than adding a tiny bit more rigidity to the lid, but it's gonna look awesome painted black with the Z logo in the middle. Plug welded from the back I'm hoping to get this one finished up, primed, and painted tonight. That might be a little ambitious though..... Alright, I didn't quite get it finished tonight, but I got 80% of the fabbing done anyway. I would have finished this one tonight if Wal-Mart carried hole saws capable of cutting metal. Too bad Home Depot isn't 24/7. I still have to cut the hole for the throat of the carb and weld in a 1/4" hose barb to the base plate for the fuel bowl vent hose. (Thanks to Bruce for telling me about the bowl vent hose! It would have sucked to have them all painted and then realize that. ) Gotta do a little bodywork on em, then primer and paint! Then...............do it all over again. Also, I haven't decided between wing nuts or acorn nuts for the hold down studs. Wing nuts would be way more functional for ease of removal, but they look pretty bulky and awkward on these small air cleaners. I'll probably just keep a cheap wrench in the glovebox for the acorns. I'm pretty happy with em so far. Whatcha think?
  9. I called Bruce today and asked this question, but made the mistake of not writing it down and forgot. Seems like he said 1 3/4", but I wanna be sure before I go cut that size hole in my new air cleaners. Also, will regular 1/4" fuel line fit the fuel bowl vent outlet nipples on top of the bowls? Thanks!
  10. So why'd you paint them yellow if you intend on painting them black anyway? Looking forward to paint pics!
  11. The supply/return lines on my 260 tank (late production year) are side by side. The best I can remember, the supply nipple is a tad larger than the return. I have no clue as to the flow ratings of them.
  12. Yep. Thanks man. When you say "280 throttle link," are you talking about the center linkage between the carbs, or the square rod coming from the firewall? I figured it was pretty easy. I just didn't want the carbs to get here and then find out I have to order some small dinky parts I didn't know I needed.
  13. Awesome project! Can't wait for updates. According to that plate, you have a mighty small engine, though. lol
  14. Bumping this for the afternoon crowd. I don't figure many of you were up at 3 am.
  15. Haven't posted much here in a while, and after contemplating a budget SBC swap, I opted to focus my attention on getting the L26 reliable for now so I'm not wasting money on an "in-between" engine. I ordered a set of round tops from Bruce at ZTherapy on Thursday, and he said they should get them out to me within 10 days. Now, I've been researching, and haven't found the info I'm looking for. I ordered their part # ZT161 which "Includes 2 240Z 3 screw carbs, center linkage, throttle return springs includes core fee." So, what else, if anything, am I going to need? I've seen a few pictures of round tops bolted to N36 manifolds (like I have now), but they used really thick carb spacers/isolators. The ones I have now are less than 1/4" thick. Do I need to make/buy some of those? Also, will everything else that I have now work with the round tops? Choke cables, throttle linkage from firewall, fuel rail, etc? I plan on making or buying some air cleaners because I know those are different. Basically, what items will I need for a flat top to round top swap that aren't included with the ZTherapy "kit?" Thanks! -Grant
  16. Looks kind of like the LeMans Blue available on 04-07 C6 Vettes under the paint code WA933L. We painted a street rod this color a couple of years ago, and it is a truly beautiful color, especially up close. Link to big pic http://media.photobucket.com/image/lemans%20blue%20corvette/07Vette4me/MyLeMansBlue2007Z51Corvette021.jpg It's all sparkly and what-not.
  17. Project's looking awesome, man! Where are you going to school at in Alabama?
  18. Dang man! Sorry to hear about that. It all happened so fast though, I'm not sure if you could have corrected in time or not.
  19. Subscribed! You have a nice little project going here. How old are you, btw? It's nice to see fellow young guns tackling huge projects.
  20. Dangit, man! If I didn't have to work, I'd try my best to be there. Good luck!
