Hey guys, every time I go to finish something on my z, it kicks me right square in the balls. Its gettin mighty annoying! Heres the dilemma. I went to fit up the stock oil line to my turbo and motor to make sure everything fits fine. Well, the end on the turbo side (which i belive is a banjo bolt) doesnt have banjo bolt "receptical" that should be there. I have a diamond shaped flat spot, that is factory judging by my gasket set i purchased. I took this motor apart going on two years and many drinks ago... did i lose something? Or what? Help me out guys - evan PS... im up S#$T creek if im not done by wedsday, i need emissions testing else my plates go bye bye....

Can a Datsun Roadster conversion hang here
Evan Purple240zt replied to a topic in 6 Cylinder Z Forums
Sounds like a pretty awesome swap. I havent viewed your pics yet however. I really like the idea of that motor in a 1600. I saw a 1600 out at LACR when i was in california, the guy had an rx7 rotary in it. It was louder than all hell, and just hauled! I was rooting for that guy the whole night! Evan PS... Hang around awhile, its amazing what you can learn even whenit doenst specifically relate to your ride! -
Well, honestly turbo vs. V8 is a tough choice. I am more than willing to bet I will end up getting rid of the L28t motor within about 5 years for either a grand national motor or some hardcore V8. The only reason I did a turbo swap was that I was getting bored. I ran outta stuff to do, and actually considered putting it up for sale to start a new project. Sick thought.. also considered a lexus LOL. Anyway, the real reason I chose turbo over V8 is because I am still a purist of sorts at heart. I have come to grips with the V8 in a z, however, I look under the hood and am generally not too impressed.. I like them but I also really enjoy learning things like turbo. Now a turbo V8 is a totally different story!!!! What can I say, I am a total nut. I like to do things the hard way. I also like to take little things and attempt to do impressive thigns with them. What can i say, shooting for large numbers out of an L28 just cause I can. I also compete SPL in my s10 standard cab with one ten inch sub. I am at the VERY bottom of my class, however i routenly place in the top three. I am completing with some big boys, but cause my stuff is setup extremely well I do well. What can I say, im eccentric i guess LOL. Enough yammering from me- Evan

I guess Ill pipe up here.. no pun intended... I have gotten super lazy about posting lately. Oh well, got alot going on. I started with a 2.5" system with a header and NO muffler. You wanna talk loud? I never revved over 5k because the sound was deafening. Small children would run away crying (seriously!). It pretty much elimnated the possiblity of killing a deer, the damn thing was so loud it makes the hondas sound like mosquitos. Then i put on the glasspack, still mighty loud but very much improved. I liked the sound, and hope my turbo motor sounds half as cool as my N/A motor did! Evan PS... glasspacks are cheap.. try it, if it sucks take it off! You can get them for under 20 from summit racing.

Hey dude, email my buddy bout LACR. He will be more than happy to show you his car i am sure! Evan PS.. the reason i went turbo was for the challenge of good numbers out of a smaller motor. I dont work on my z to drive it, more to improve my skills!

Whatsup dude, i was in palmdale last week with my buddy and his turbo L28z. Anyway, yea its cheaper to go V8. The problem with a turbo motor is that you can go overkill in alot of areas and it runs up the bill hella fast. Plan to spend about 5000 bucks to build a totally bullet proof 350+hp turbo motor. I know some will say thats high but that is about what I have spent on my engine. However, the v8 is a good idea also. They are just not my style if ya know what I mean. Cool, but not my bag. I think it will be cheaper to go this route. Dont expect major numbers from a basically stock crate motor though. I saw dave booths car run on the dyno in lancaster and turn out like 200hp wheras the motor is rated at 330 or so.... It needs some tuning for sure and I think he will be happier. I dunno dude, its your bag. Chances are both are going to be hella expensive. However, you will be happy with either motor. I dont have a TON of experience with this, im just relaying information. Evan PS.. email buetow@gte.net his name is ron, a good freind of mine. he has a turboed 240.

Scottie, no harm no foul buddy. I understand that doing stuff like that for people can be a royal PITA to deal with. As far as the wasetgate, its incoporated into the stock exhaust manifold by welding some schedule 40 pipe in. I may run a seperate exhaust out the side for the wastegate. Dont know at this point. I am having a 1/2 inch flange made for me by a local shop. Either that, or call turbonetics. You happen to know the price on a mild steel flange by chance?? Drax, actually i found out that the fitting in the junction block was a standard compression fitting thread. So I basically took off the compression part of the fitting and used it as a nipple and then theaded on a short junction piece to adapt the male threads of the autometer compressoin fitting to the junction block. If it doesnt make sense ill try to get ya a picture. It looks kinda halfass so it may get redone in the future.. but for now its cool by me Evan -
Gonga new tool (for wheels)

Interesting point about buying auto parts. I work for carquest, we have knowledgeablt people and not a bunch of chodes who dont give a rat fart whether you get the right parts or not. Trak-auto etc.. are useless. Carquest has accounts with real mechanics and does 99% of business through delivery. I do deliver to mechanics, awesome for when i am stumped. I can usually ask about 15 different shops per day. Car salesmen? I went in to buy a maxima for my mom.. I knew WAY more than the salesman. But i look at this way, if they know more than me i havent done all my homework. Same applies for stereo equipment, people tend to think im a mr-knowitall dickhead in stores like that. I say call it whatcha want, just dont try pulling any wool over these eyes!! Evan PS.. carquest rules! Carquest brands are made by raysbestos, pennzoil, moog etc... not no name crap, just relabled Good quality parts. -

Very good point on the oil to the turbo idea. Im sure its fine, because my oil pressure gauge is hooked to the junction block. Ill check it anyways. The only An fittings that are on my car right now are in the fuel system. I may drop some more change and do an AN oiling line to the turbo and into the oil pan before im done though. I had the wastegate pipe welded in and im thinking its too close to the return line (IE, right in the way) so nows a good time to swap over to an AN bulkhead fitting and lines. Cant be too careful with turbos i suppose. Thanks- evan -
My motor is almost finished. God, its been cold here but I had no clue hell had frozen over! My motor will be running by next weekend, the machine shop is finishing up balancing, and drilling my pulley for the SDS. The welders are making my external wastegate happen, and I am finishing working under the car (driveshaft and few hose clamps). Looks as If theres finally a light at the end of the tunnel. Anyone have any initial startup tips? My only prep so far has been to pressurize the fuel system to very high levels to check for leaks, after many hours of screwing around, its tight as a drum. Im glad I got that crap outta the way. The block is in the car, and everything has been mocked up and fits like a glove. The only thing not finished is my alternator mount (s10 alternator, i had a spare lying around). I will finish that after initial startup. HAHA, oh yeah, gotta put the windsheld back in also. I have a full array of gauges, so monitioring vital signs will be cake. Hopefully, it will go off without a hitch. Anyways, any other suggestions for my turbo motor would be apreciated. Prime oil pump or something? Lemme know! Evan PS.. scottie whats the deal with our downpipes? If you havent gotten any fitment results back yet for the T5, give me some measurements to work with and destroy the check I sent!! thanks dude

Hey guys, i know its been done because i swiped the idea off of someones website (simon perhaps?). My question is, how difficult was it to have the pipe welded to the zxt exhaust manifold for the wastegate. I want to do this on my z but need to know what tubing you used and how you went about it. I am having a pro do it, but he doesnt know about the z manifold so im researching for him I was also wondering what material i should make my wastegate flange out of? Steel of course, but how thick and what type? thanks guys, you rock- Evan

Are you SURE its a maxima trans? Well, honestly the gearing could be pretty cool if you had a taller rearend do you have like a 390 now or what? If so maybe something like a 336 is in order. MY favorite tranny combo is most definitely a 280zx naturally aspirated trans, witha 390 rearend. Perfect balance of go/cruise rpms. Z32 trans wont fit Good luck

Evan Purple240zt replied to Evan Purple240zt's topic in Ford V8Z Tech Board
Well i guess im stickin with the stock, crappy shifter for now. I will get a ripper when i get some money. I just dropped like another 300 bucks for parts this week alone! On a lighter note, if i had pistons, my engine would be finished this weekend. I had my IC piping pro welded today. And im picking up my driveshaft tomorrow for the T5... things are coming together!- Evan -

Last night i started getting antsy and tried to bend it myself with a torch and a vice... maybe ill use my buddies oxy=acetylene setup to heat that damn thing up next time. I didnt want to oveheat it and torch the plastic ball!!! Thanks again guys- Evan PS.... How much better is the T5 superchicken shifter? Does it angle back a little better? -

Drax you crack me up LOL> Hulk get strong HULK SMASH -
Well after the nissan T5 shifter went in, i was rather chapped at the fact that the shifter is WAY too close to the heater console, my knuckles hit the gauges i mounted in there when i made the heater plate. DOH... Time for the ripper shifter.. soon im thinking.. wheres the best price and how much should i expect to pay? Evan
