  1. Yep, roger rules. I ordered TWO gears out of a specific year tranmission to change my gearing in my zx trans and they had the parts i wanted, in excellent shape too me quick! Morgan, why in the world would you use used ball joints? Sorry to hear of your experience. Evan
  2. You guys crack me up. I just put that up to help out someone that might be interested LOL. I really cant afford to do it now at least, but youve all got me considering it If anyone finds out anything definite let me know. Evan
  3. First off, thanks alot for the compliment rich. I really apreciate it. Its nice to hear when youve helped someone make a decision that they are happy with!!!! Second, scottie i do belive the whole deal about the transmission. BUT, i am 20 and i want a manual gearbox. Im not a hardcore dragracer, and just like to shift. It keeps me entertained. I can put the auto back in when the novelty wears off! HAAHAA Anywho, lots of great stuff on this post. Keep it coming guys. Evan PS, this post contains enough info to answer almost every engine swap question i have ever had. You guys should link it and call it FAQ lol.
  4. TIMZ, can i get that in english please? Are you saying that its better to use a rising rate fpr or not? I am NOT using a rising rate fpr. Well i dont think the SX unit is a rising rate fpr anyway. My observation is this, as long as you have enough pressure and fuel, you should be able to tune your injector pulse to make up for needed fuel. After all, thats what SDS is for isnt it? I tend to observe a rising rate FPR as a bandaid. If you need to up the fuel pressure much past what the injector is rated for, you should get larger injectors IMO. Once youve reached too high of a duty cycle i would think it would be risky to run an undersized injector with too much fuel pressure no? Hey, if im ass backwards fill me in here. I wont change regulators but am definitely curious! Evan
  5. http://www.azspeed-marine.com/products/fuelinj/fuelr.html This is what i used. Its 12 a foot and two feet works perfect! Evan
  6. Roamer, you have an interesting quantity of choices. Good luck. I just wanted to explain why i went turbo. Some will think im stupid, crazy and ignorant im sure. First off, the V8 dosent tickle my elmo. I liked the idea of keeping it nissan, and love the rev happy 6 banger. I started with a built NA motor that was pretty powerful.... but in the quest for a car that really hauled ass i ended up building a motor that sucked royal on the street, it was a racer for sure. The off cam performance was horrible, but when cam hit it was like a shot of nitrous, seriously. Well one day, i was really hemming and hawing about my z. Honestly, i had run out of things to do and was growing bored with the car, and a little dissapointed with HP. I was online one night and got a wild hair and bought a complete "running" turbo motor. This was the key to my z, working on that car is a blast! Lesson learned though, never take anyones advice unless you can see it run. It turned out to be the equivalent of a junkyard motor. So i did a total rebuild, planning to use the stock ECU. Well i bailed on factory stuff, concerned that it was screwed up along with the motor. Eh, basically i should have started with a bare bones 300 dollar junkyard motor but i got a 500 dollar complete unit. There went 200 down the pooper. Anywho, motors still not done and im not too concerened. I learned a valuable lesson, i enjoy working on the car almost more than driving it. Man thats sick.... Anyone else in my boat? Evan So, after all my rambling let me say this. I gaurantee you will be happy with any of the aformentioned suggestions. But if turbos an option, do it right the first time. it will save you massive amounts of money!!!!!!
  7. Dude, thats ghetto as hell. Why dont you call one of the places previously mentioned? Sounds like corky was drinking on the job or something. Evan PS... yeah or you could return the pump maybe and get a differnet one if your not comfy with makin it work?
  8. Yeah i could see how it woulnt be usefull for a v8. But im talking about a six cyl motor. I dont care as much about the ratios for closeness etc... more the taller final drive ratio if it has one. Evan PS yes im talking about low crusiing RPMs
  9. yeah i know, but i SWEAR i saw a bellhousing adapter avalible somewhere on line to do it!! Evan
  10. Now guys, i may be crazy but ive seen this adapter SOMEWHERE for the adapter for a supra 6speed trans. Does anyone remember anything about this? Hrm, come to think of it maybe the bellhousing adapts it to the v motor. Oh well, all info welcome! Evan
  11. Hey geno, you live in fox lake? Do you know where st. charles is?? Thats where i live Evan
  12. Nav system aint my style! I love being lost way too much LOL. Seriously though i do get lost ALOT. Couldnt find my way out of a paper bag with a flamethrower to be honest..... Anyway, dont worry there will be a full write up on my website for anyone who is interested to look. It will not be finished till late spring (minimum) cause i dont have the money to start the install or buy my drivers for that matter. I promise to share though. My shop insists on building me custom kick panels. Ill see what they wanna do. I may have them fab new door panels if i dont like choice A. I dont wannna be stickin my foot into a 200 dollar driver everytme i put my foot down either! Evan
  13. Hey guys you better belive that there will be full pictures accompyaning this install. I may not have pictures of the kickpanels because im not fabbing them though. Lone, yes the shop that im working with is holding the state record for highest SPL with 300w amp. 148.5 db. They conned me into sitting in his car for a listen. Bass was amazing, never ever dealt with anything like it. Unfortunately it sounded like crap otherwise! Anywho, thanks for your interest guys. If you wanna help fund my project you can buy my black hatch carpet out of the for sale section HAHAHAH. Thanks all- Evan

  15. Arg, turn off the caps! If you are going to swap to SDS, dont bother with stock wiring. Just do the sds. It sounds like you are planning to just get the motor to run. Do you have money for sds right now? if ya do id just go straight to that! Evan
  16. I absolutely agree lone. Your soapbox is very well warranted. I am doing sound quality competition. Totally differernt from SPL. Spl is where you try to blow the windows out of your car faster than the next guy. Sound quality is all about just that... sound quality. Light crisp highs, good soundstage and bass reinforcment. They basically put a cd in your player and listen for staging and sound acuracy. Im not tryin to build a 150db system.... quite the contrary actually. I will have 900w of power on tap. But i will most likely use only like 200 of it.. if i cranked the gain id smoke every speaker in the car. The extra power is purely to keep the amps running at thier most efficent point and keep the S/N ratio to a minimum Thanks lone, i apreciate the soapbox. Evan
  17. Timz, you must share with me man. Thats pretty much the same trick im using in my car. I will be using a false floor in the back to hide my amps and crossover under glass. My subs will be behind the seats in fiberglass enclosures, and i will cut straight into the toolbox for some more volume. I had considered using the rear deck like you say but i wanted to keep that area for my amps and it hides wires etc.. very well. I wanna see pictures, i havent actually started the install so any insight i can gain through others would be badazz! Thanks- Evan PS, i understand it seems as if im going crazy, but the prices im gettin on equipment are so good that i cant pass it up. Im a sucker for zcars and audio equipment, therfore this project has expensive spit all over it LOL PSS... anyone ever heard the song "Echidna's arf" off of george duke "the aura will prevail"? Damn good song. Too bad cant get it on CD, glad i have a good turntable
  18. Nah, no tv or navigational crap in my car. I dont need or want any of that. I am going for pure sound quality. Simple to a certain extent, and sound to beat all hondas. Im all about sound. Home theater doesnt really interest me either. I could afford to do the slide out TV but the way i have it figured im into this thing for around 2500 without that stuff. I got a smokin deal on equipment. That is retail price on my amps alone with no speakers or install work (I am doing most of the install). Pete, tubes have a sound that is almost indescribable. The mellow feel and sound is just awesome. The amps i am using have a pair of tubes in both input boards (mosfet amps), tubes in the line driver (uses 7v signal thru balanced cables) and my xover is also packin like 4 tubes. The system is just amazing. We switched from some ADS equipment to the phaze audio (no longer avail.) and the sound change is just amazing. I cant wait to get the stuff into my car! Evan PS pete, my next aquisition for my home stereo will probabally be a McIntosh C-22 tube preamp Man i love tubes!!!
  19. Im not super serious about the wieght of my car like some folks are. Im way to far into creature comforts. I thought I would share my latest endeavour with you guys. My car is about to undergo a serious stereo installation. I am going to compete mecca this coming summer in sound quality competitions with my z. I love music and my z, so i figured why not mix them. The local shop is making me killer deals on equipment to do my car because they want their name on it. My system will be very stealth, yet showy. Its very hard to describe the process but ill be sure to post up all my pictures when the fun begins! Just thought i would share this with you guys! Evan PS, i am using phaze audio tube driver amps (yes tubes) so i should be pushing around 900 watts. And a full array of focal speakers. They are also building custom kicks for my car in the front for the speakers. They showed me what they plan to do, its pretty awesome.
  20. I have MSA swaybars. If they are the same ones, the ends are stamped and the quality is actually really good. they perform really well on my car and i would reccomend them. Esp for the price!! Evan PS be ready, puttin new bars on is a raging PITA.
  21. Man i love this site, i would have never known about the whole issue. I never really payed attention. Does bump steer get worse when you lower the car? I assume so. I may just do that to my front control arm crossmember this summer. With my wide tires and lowered car I am sure i will benefit. Is there anything else i should know before i attempt this during the summer? Thanks guys- Evan PS You will be seeing my post alot more frequently on here now. I finally got my name etc . cookied in for this site. So its way easier to post
  22. Mike, bummer dude that really sucks when you find out something like that has happened. Ususally its either an expensive part, or a cheap one you have to wait forever for LOL. Please fill me in man, what is the bumpsteer mod you are speaking of? Inquring minds want to know Thanks buddy- Evan

  24. Well this has been a very intersting set of flames i have seen on this thread. Ouch. First off, if you decide to go an L turbo motor. Do not rev it to 8k lol. I honestly think you are on the right track with the larger displacement motors. This is coming from the mouth of an Lmotor user. Hey morgan, how many turbo motors have you built? The reason i ask is because you bring up some things I have never heard. Honestly, in the world of the L motor im a strong beliver in overbuilding. Keep in mind if you want a forged lower end it will run you about 800 w/rings. I have spend way too much on this motor, and its too late to turn back Honestly, i think the chevy or the like will make roamer the happiest. Oh, and BTW, even the best setup turbo will have lag. Thats just the way it is. Just a couple cents for ya- Evan PS i can offer more detail on my motor setup if you would like to email (if you care)
  25. Dude, i cant reccomend www.shox.com enough. Prices are killer. I paid 120 each for tokico adjustables. If you can afford it go for it, if not dont sweat it. I did the adjustables. Yeah they are alright on 3 but the true advantage comes when you want to bias front to rear. Its also cool to set them softer for long highway drives. Saves your butt some soreness!! Evan
