  1. Hiya, Im on the other side of IL (Kankakee, about an hour south of chicago). Ivan280zt and garrett76zt are in chicago along with a few others. Matt73gnz is just over the wis. border near milwaukee. There is also someone i dont know very well over toward iowa.. evan someone or another. You can pretty much guess who has what swaps in thier cars although matts is still a work in progress. Im also in the middle of my swap, plain jain turbo swap. Im sure there are others.. we are out there hehe Sam
  2. I was ridding with my buddy one day and he caught a bird just right on one of his fork tubes.. VERY messy.. hehe Split it right in 2.. and left the insides all over his shirt.. luckily I wasnt beside him for that one!! Watch out for 'em, Sam
  3. Hey Ivan, Whats shakin man.. you may be well past this now but if you still need to get some wd out of the holes get a can of compressed air used for cleaning computers.. itll blast it right out. Sorry Ive been incommunicado for abit, ive just had alot going on with moving in to the new place, school and being a broke mofo. Not sure if garrett got it to ya but my new phone number is 937-1487.. give me a call.. im always thinkin ill catch you asleep with you workin goofy hours Good luck, Sam btw, i have the torque wrench out of storage if its still needed.
  4. Heya mark, thats a very interesting idea.. deffinitly a low buck solution.. Im not sure if this was covered in a previous post but.. Why not just use an off the shelf airdryer? Is it the cost? I know my storage space is a precious commodity for sure.. deffinitly no room for a fridge for airdrying, unless maybe it was doing double duty as a beer cooler =] Do you drain your airtank from the bottom regularly? I saw that you were in NC and I know how humid it gets down there... heh But if you hadnt been draining the water that collects, you would deffinitly notice a diffrence. Good luck either way but if you do make the fridge dryer/beer cooler id love to seee pics and hear how it works out! Sam
  5. Everything looks awesome so far ecspecially those welds.. like butter! I did a rough acad rendering of your header( I need the practice!). It should give a little bit of an idea of what your working with.. I love 3D! Good luck with everything, Sam
  6. Last I heard from him he was supposed to be sending me pic's of the shell but that was around a week or so ago... Luckily I hadnt sent him any funds yet. Jeff if for some reason you want any of the emails or pm's DR-Z and I exchanged lemme know and Ill email em to ya. Jeez I hate crap like this.. Sam
  7. Ive been wondering the same thing that norm[T12SDSUD] was, or at least wondering how crazy the solution would sound.. heh I was thinking that one possibility would be to weld the water passages closed befor assembleing the sections then runing external coolant feeds to each head section. High performance motorcycle engine builders do something similiar to that on old Suzi' GS1100 motors with the oil feed for the head. I think in a pinch something similar might also be possible for the rb or mercedes projects/theories floating around.. completly blocking oil and water passages between the head and block and running external feeds into the head. Man I wish I had a bridgeport in the garage, or a garage period! Anywho.. very inspiring work- Good luck, Sam
  8. Pretty much as the subject heading says.. my machinist says ill be at about 4thou over stock bore after cleaning up the cylinders. this is for a turbo motor btw So, do i have em bore it out or let it ride with the hone..? I think this will likely be the second time this block has been honed, not sure if that would affect the decision. The motor shows some signs of being ripped apart and rebuilt (very poorly ) anyway, any help is appreciated, Sam
  9. I tried hooking one of my turbo afms up to my NA motor (expecting it to work just fine, riiight.) and it would start and run for about 10 seconds.. either at idle or wot. the connectors are the same and im thinking if you bridged(or maybe disconnected) the wires that are for the fuel pump circut you might be just dandy.. havent gotten around to trying it yet(spent the last few hours hunting a dead short, nope havent found it yet.. who needs marker/tailights anyway?) but it might work out.. who knows
  10. lol, too funny... Try this http://hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=24042 This should clear up alot of questions. enjoy, Sam
  11. Save it for when ya start breakin stuff with big power and big a** wheels Im dreading that day myself.. when I have to replace stuff on my car that my pretty new motor destroys! There will be a day of reckoning when old shall be thrashed by the new and shall thus become new themselves Sam
  12. The exhaust brakes are aftermarket things.. I dont think Detroit, Cummins or Cat has ever used one.. makin them all aplication specific to go befor the turbo would be nutty at best with the wide range of applications and cramped engine bays these things see. We need some pics.. ! tell the fire department that you have to do a uh.. umm.. radio check! hah Sam
  13. Without see'n it myself I woud say Chaparral2f nailed it right on the head.. Jake brakes are massive things built into/on top of the heads of the massive diesels, while exhaust brakes(which have become a really popular upgrade on heavy duty domestic diesel trucks, F550s 3500s etc that see alot of heavy towing) do about the same thing but can be installed on just about anything where theres a need. As for the wastegate.. unfortunately most all of the trucks I see at work from the fords and chevys up too big cummins and cats have internal style otherwise I would have a few of 'em in my tool box hah! The down pipe I replaced on a truck a few weeks ago (3 1/4") is goin to look real pretty on my turbo after I secton it just abit Sam

  19. I dont have the system your talking about but i have a 76 and have been running a glasspack as my only muffler with the stock resonator(cause it looked like it wold be a pita to remove with the tools and whatnot i had availible at the time) for three years or so and i still like it alot.. granted it sounded alot better befor all the glass burned up and blew out.. but it still sounds nice. at cruising speeds its only a nice hum.. very nice =]
  20. You can now search all forums at once! Outstanding! hehe, I noticed yesterday when doing a little search of my own I think he meant he got back a bunch of hits from the v8 board..
  21. Had to make sure this post didnt get lost in the merge.. hate to see it lost! btw, any updates?
  22. Cant we all just get along? heh sorry to keep on hijacking an already hijacked thread but.. banning folks for askin questions.. previously asked or otherwise? if its that bad just ignore em maybe? dont read te post.. dont click the thread? people ask about stuff all the time and get jumped on in a heartbeat for not searching and half the time they later reply after getting flamed for not searching that they did search... and guess what.. this is a great website with some great people and yes, i am a newcomer but i think everyone knows the search features suck pretty bad so many people are gettin all worked up about this stuff and they are coming off as serious a**holes weather they are trying to or not( tho i think some may just like chewin on people) =/ just my 2bits.. ill get ready for the ban stick beatiun' if i have angered the grumpy mods =/
  23. That would be a nice comparison.. mebe get the z mag to write up a performance artical on all the brake kits out there hehe! I cant stand floating calipers tho(the ross made kits) , extremely ugly and 90% of the cars they come on are cheepos, tho i cant say that i have ever seen any actual performance data of floating vs. non floating calipers. Sam
  24. Matte(sp?) black is gettin to be popular it seems like.. any body guys around to tell us if there are any matte colors/products out there meant to be used a a topcoat? my hood will be matte but my bodyshop bud was just planin on using a black primer.. ill have to ask him to dig around abit more to see if anything has become availible.
  25. Awesome, Thanks for the info, the tire fitment guid will be a big help also.. as for engine choices, im leaning toward vg myself but it will be up to him in the end. Thanks again.. Sam
