  1. I've use'd the Dupli-color vinyl paint and it works really well. I am currently redoing my interior in elk and deer leather. My 260 has the small quarter window trim like the 240 I actually had to use rubber cement on it it was the only glue that was strong enough for the way I did those. The deer leather I used has lots of stretch so I did not have to seam the piece and it look's really good, still holding up really well after a year. they have been in storage but they get moved allot so I think storage is harder on them than when they are installed.
  2. I am 24 had my first z when I was 19 it was a 280zx turbo. saw one one day and thought it was sexy. had one since
  3. I had a bad/ redundant ground in my stock car it was burning up my distributors
  4. Progress, Crower will make a 30 pound 180 degree crank they want $3,100 for a matching cam $ 500 for rods $1,300. they will take $300 off for a 50 pound crank but dont recommend that. They apperently built several motors of this nature. It is all billet they said they could not do it on a forged piece
  5. So I have been chasing threads on this flat plane crank for a while. I have a gen 1 sbc I have been sitting on for awile trying to decide how to build it. This is the answer how ever what I need to know and I know this has been addresed somewhere I just cant remember info over load is can I by a dual plane and have a semi local crank shop bend it to where I need it. and was the cam profile issue solved. I would be happy with 220 horse it is for my early 260 so that will double the power and it will probably recive a twin turbo in the future I want to use the edelbrock pro flow fuel injection. the itbs would be cool but the pro flow would be easier to use with a turbo set up.
  6. so it took me two weeks and some annoyance, But I read the whole length and am stuck on the single plane crank in a 350 I had originally thought short stroke big bore itbs would give me the sound I was after, but 180 degree crank would help imensely. I fail to see the reasoning behind 10,000 rpms I built my stock car to do 7,500 all day long. the other thing i am not sure about is power I think a 250 horse motor would be fine with me and then throw on a twin turbo should be good but will that adjust sound greatly? I dont think it would but turbos are not an item I am familier with.
  7. so after reading this discussion I am still wondering where I can get one of those. I am going to put those imsa front fenders on from ZCC and I think that airdam will look good with those
  8. still deciding, saw @ supercharged 350 for $6,000 400 horse. But more cylinders is better. at least I think so.
  9. Does any one have pics of a tube chassie front on a z? I had figured on modifying an s10 frame and channeling it in to the body. tube chassie would be cleaner looking set it up for mustang bolt ons and use airbags to handle performance and weight
  10. There's been lots of talk of a viper v10 but what about the ford v10. First its a v10 second cheaper than the viper, and easier to obtain, at least for me
  11. only reason I am doing it is because I can. I work in a fab shop and I have a 74 beetle. probably not pratical but i can.
  12. I have lost my heater my car had a air conditioner I took out. Are you sure the transmission only weighs 75 definitly feels like more. rear floor pan, rear hatch glass.rear quarter windows, bumpers and a whole lot of brackets. I built a custom dash and it is alot lighter than stock. center console is custom also but weighs almost the same. plan on carbon pin down hood and rear hatch kinda of expensive but looks good. I think it was you who said to look at subaru flat four good ide, I did more resarch on that idea and found that subaru and mazda engines are commen to swap into a vw bug. So after I get the air cooled installed and working right I am going to go in that direction because of water cooling and being more modern not sure if mazda or subaru is better.
  13. I suspect that I will lose 600 or so pounds going with a air cooled rear engine platform, so the 200 horse is really more than two hundred and with the motor over the tires I belive that will greatly add in hook up. I am going to try to keep the exterior appering normally. however I belive I am going to have to lose the rear window and replace it with that louver piece to aid in cooling and give a few extra inches space.
  14. So I searched before I posted this and agin after however I have found nothing, I could be screwing somthing up. at any rate I talked to some guys whom said the most power I could get is 200 which with weight drop of stock components and having the early 260 I think that will provide a usefull increase in power. 74 beetle and 74 datsun weigh similar amount and should come out even with the beetle.
  15. Has anyone tried or thought about puting a volkswagen motor in a z ?
  16. thanks solved my confusion
  17. I have a early model 74 260. All the parts people say the interior panels are differant for the 240 and 260. But the 240 quarter windows and rear quarter interior panels are whats in mine I have checked my vin and it is a 74. Am I missing somthing?
