  1. I was referring to the bottom of the window opening and the metal was swelled out around all of the spot welds on the bottom there. You have a similar amount of rust in this area, by the looks of it.
  2. Rebello's hp numbers come from their engine dyno. This guy says he wants 350 whp. So that puts you squarely in the GT2 class engine with 14 or 15:1 compression a lifetime measured in hours, etc. It is totally unrealistic to think that you can get 350whp on an NA stroker street engine, even worse to be trying to figure out how to do it on the cheap.
  3. Supposedly its a tube framed race car, but it is FWD and it does use a huge wing on the front. Whatever works!!!
  4. Let me amend that last post. I think you'll spend a lot of money and you will miss your numbers by ~100 whp on a street engine.
  5. If it's not clear now, it's never going to be. End result of the experience was STOPPING the canyon running and picking up autox and track days. As I said before, the autox and track days allow you to push WAY harder without the same consequences. I thought I was driving fast in the canyons until I started actually racing and found out that I had my head in my ass for the most part...
  6. Also, it doesn't matter how accurate a DISTRIBUTOR is if the GEARS that drive it are not accurate. Kameari distributor for $800 is a bad deal compared to direct ignition with crankfire, where there is no gear slop to change the timing.
  7. If you're talking turbo, you can do 350whp with stock rods, no problem. You don't need to stroke the motor. If you're talking NA, good luck. Have you searched at all? It appears that you haven't done any research whatsoever. There's a TON of guys making 350whp here and there's a lot better ways to get there than changing the rods. By the way, a witch has a cauldron and flies on a broom. "Which" is the word you were looking for. You might try a spell checker, it could help with searching for other information if your spelling is really bad.
  8. It means we rolled off of a 250 foot cliff. The car flipped over a bunch of times. Is that more clear?
  9. Just call them up and ask for them, they'll mail them to you no questions asked. The ones for the Z are all the same as indicated in the photo above.
  10. Thanks for the heads up. I went to WATCH THE RACES with my dad and brother 10 times. I rolled off Decker ONCE. We did roll over ~10 times. That happened in 1993. I stopped driving like an idiot in the canyons then, and took up autocrossing and track days.
  11. I'd go with Wicked of the West rods. Some people say Glenda the Good, but I think that is BS.
  12. It was pretty crazy. They only used to race UP, at least when I was there. Someone had painted a start line right outside the Rock Store. I probably went up there 10 times, but my brother was right in it actually racing his 86 Ninja 600. There was a lot of stupid stuff going on. I remember a guy losing it on one of the tighter corners down near the bottom and blood everywhere and he got up and ran to the edge of the road (his bike had flown off) and he was screaming "My BIKE! My BIKE!" Another time my brother had me on the back of his bike and he was riding the line and another guy was riding the line in the other direction and we came around that corner with the HUGE rock sticking out of the side of the road, probably 1/2 mile from the rock store. So two cars and the other bike and us all went around that corner at the same time. Handlebars hit, nobody went down. Yet another time my brother came around the corner to my house literally jumped into the driveway and started screaming "Open the gate! Open the gate! Open the gate!" so I did, and he pulled his bike in, threw a tarp over it and ripped his helmet off and about 5 seconds later a police helicopter flew over. Yes, my brother outran a chopper. Those are really his stories though. If you want to really understand my story, go do like I said and turn right onto Decker. Go down 4 turns, then pull over wherever you can. Get out and go to the edge of the cliff, and look down. You'll see that if you rolled a car there, you'd have to go about 250 feet down the cliff before you stopped. I don't know how many times we went over, but I'd guess 10. And yes, I screamed liked a bitch all the way down. My best friend was in the car with me, we hiked out at 3:30 AM and walked to the nearest house we saw and had an ambulance come pick us up. That roll, 250 feet down the cliff, is why I got into autocrossing. SO much better. You need to try it if you haven't. Or a track day. You can push way beyond what is reasonable in the canyons without having the instant death repercussions. I have lots more Decker stories, but I think I've gone on enough... I damn near rear ended a 928 S4 at the bottom of Tuna Canyon. I had kept up with him all the way down the road in my first Z, but the brakes were just faded beyond any function whatsoever when we got to the bottom. I remember standing both feet on the brake pedal just praying it would stop in time. The 928 turned left onto PCH just before I would have rear ended him.
  13. Isn't there a big rock with a TARGET painted on it right behind the photographer? I guess it's not as big a deal since they don't do the illegal racing like they used to, but still, if that's where I'm thinking it is it's not a good place to stand... Back in the 80's there would be hundreds of bikes at the view site and the rock store watching guys race 2 at a time from the rock store to the viewsite. My dad used to take my brother and I up there to watch. Crazy stuff. That section of road isn't the craziest though. A couple turns past that Mulholland runs into Decker. Turn right and go down the hill, and THAT is one hell of a section of road. Or try Latigo Canyon. Or Deer Creek. All are way tighter and more fun.
  14. Use one of your old stock rubber bushings. Poly gives no advantage whatsoever when it's installed in the back. Save the money and put less stress on the rods by using rubber.
  15. I guess we'll see what happens. If they don't sell I suppose I can hold onto them for a while. I just wanted some money for a transmission for the V8 swap.
  16. Nobody has bid yet. Pretty surprising. Maybe everyone has their sniping tools on...
  17. I haven't had the displeasure, but my boss had a bunch of them in a row at a job I had probably 15 years ago. I remember him laying on the shop floor writhing in agony. Not fun. Later I heard that it's more painful than giving birth, according to women who had done both. So next time you hear a woman say something about how painful giving birth is, you'll have something to say back (small consolation).
  18. True enough. My point throughout has been to provide a counterpoint to the notion that putting a small port head on an L28 is a wonderful idea. As I said earlier: I think my point has been made, so I'll duck out of this one.
  19. I think Tony D is talking out of his butt on this one, sorry Tony but that's my opinion. Even if you have a diesel that makes HUGE torque and doesn't rev past 3500 rpm, they also make HUGE hp. Here in the states guys are doing propane injection and changing the fuel curves, and adding big turbos. They're getting 1000 ft/lbs of torque, AND they're getting 7-800 hp to go with it. Since hp is a function of torque over time, you don't really get one without the other. Even a diesel Jetta still has 140 hp. You can have a torquey gas engine built like a diesel, but I don't think you're going to come anywhere near the results you can get with a diesel. Diesel fuel is better than gas at the job of low rpm, high compression, huge torque production. Why am I bringing up the lack of power? Because you stated that it was an "original" engine. When I read that, I read "stock". Based on that I don't think my asking why your engine is down on power is out of line at all. Now that I see what you've done to it, cam timing is an obvious cause for the power loss.
  20. You can't just swap the ring gear. You can swap the LSD into a diff with 3.54s. Lots of documentation on this, but you need to search. I wrote a FAQ post on installing the LSD into an open diff. That should help you a lot.
  21. Replacing the bearings is a LOT harder than doing the LSD. I would think any differential shop should be able to swap parts into the LSD. Finding someone to test it properly is probably a little more tricky if you're looking to hit xx lbs breakaway.
  22. The clutches are NLA from Nissan, and they were $30 EACH when you could get them which is a horrible rip off. You might consider swapping out the spacers for 4 more clutches from Gary Savage (if he still has any) and then shimming it to suit. I have a sticky thread on shimming and Austin 240hoke has one on putting in the extra clutches. It's really not a difficult job at all.
  23. What do you attribute it's lack of hp to?
