Phone trouble. Where can I buy tiny speaker?
JMortensen replied to JMortensen's topic in Non Tech Board
No this is a cordless phone, not a cell phone. Regular ring, turned all the way up. It was a loud ringer, but if the speaker can't handle it they shouldn't make it that loud. Turns out the replacement speakers I bought were a bit too thick to fit in the case. I need to find something about 1/4" thick or less. -
No, it's like a combo of spray paint and mascara for the top of your head. Its a combo of fine powder and color. The color covers the bald spot and the powder sticks to the hair that is there and makes it look thicker. The stuff actually works. There were quite a few celebrities in the database as customers. After talking to a dude who couldn't get his shipment and was upset because his new wife would find out that he was balding I determined that if I ever go bald I'm just going to shave my head instead of trying to cover it up. Well, it was that guy and the politician who used to come in every so often who had multiple scalp lifts in order to try and cover up the fact that he was balding. It started out funny, but turned sad pretty quickly. The scalp lift works until you lose your hair below where the scalp was lifted. Then you just look like you have a Frankenhead with all these scars and just a few wispy hairs left. Then you buy GLH by the case and try to paint on a head of hair...

Phone trouble. Where can I buy tiny speaker?

Yeah, I know that Panasonic has a good rep, and the voice quality and all that is great. But the ringer died on 3 out of 3 handsets and I didn't abuse them at all, so I'm going to stand by my POS statement. This one is the KX-TG6700 just in case anyone wants to avoid it. Yes, there is a ring volume adjustment, and when new, with the volume all the way up I could hear it when my air compressor was running in the garage. When it failed I couldn't hear it unless I literally put the phone up to my ear. -

Yep, picked 2 up from Radio Shack. Need to put them in still, but at $5 for the pair I won't be too disappointed if they don't work... -

I don't know why I figured Radio Shack wouldn't have this. I'll head down there tonight and pick up a couple. Thanks!!! -
I have a POS Panasonic phone that keeps blowing out the speaker for the ringer. It happened once right after I bought it, but I took it back to the store and got a replacement. I also bought a 2nd handset at that time. 3 months later my second handset went bad, and I was about to send it to Panasonic, but then my 3rd handset went bad. At this point I'm thinking screw this crap, I'm going to find my own goddamn speaker and solder it in there. The problem is when you look for speakers online you get car audio or home speakers. Anyone know where to get a 1 1/8" diameter 1/4" thick speaker from?

Did you replace the bearings? Did you seat the races all the way down? You say that you "bottomed out the nut" but what exactly does that mean?

Entrepreneur here. Went through years of various jobs, mechanic, risk analyst for a credit card processing house, worked for Ronco for years (Popeil Pocket Fisherman, spray on hair, etc), worked for other mail order companies as well, Randy's Ring and Pinion was my last employer. Now I own/operate http://www.thepetdoorstore.com, which is my own mail order company. Kind of a weird thing to sell, but there it is. I've been on my own for 4 years, can't really ever see working for anyone else again...

strut tower bar question......
JMortensen replied to FJ 280z's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
That has been done before. I believe katman used a tattle tale dial indicator and tested the deflection. I've read an article where the same was done with a Porsche 944. -
Sport Compact Car and a comparison of speed for the real world Zs
JMortensen replied to bjhines's topic in Non Tech Board
Well you guys know better than I do what is fast at that track, but again, it's one of three things causing the car to be slow. Driver, car, or track. At least one of those 3 is to blame. -

I suggest you find out when the next magazine has their "Time Attack", and show up! I still can't stand that they call a time trial a time "attack". If you're really able to keep up with your car which probably has 1/10th the $$$ in it, then at best it will be mighty embarrasing for the so called tuners. -
This is interesting. How to you connect the locking hose to the hard line? Does that push on style hose work with regular double flared hard line? I thought you needed that gnarly triple barb end to grab onto that style of rubber hose. As far as the hard line, flared stainless would be the poop. I was thinking of using aluminum and was unsure about the strength of it. If stainless hard line is available inexpensively that's definitely what I'll use.

strut tower bar question......
JMortensen replied to FJ 280z's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I've always wondered what exactly the force was on the bar. My 1" OD aluminum "tap tube" with 5/8" rod ends seems to be holding up fine though, and it is light... -

1:58 in the config that John mentioned earlier beats A LOT of really fast cars. That is not a slow time, and John's car was certainly not slow by any stretch of the imagination. BJ's car should be quite a bit slower than John's and for these tuner cars to be posting the same time either means that the track was really slow or the drivers were really slow, or the cars sucked. I lapped a 996TT in a 20 minute session at Buttonwillow. Is my Z faster than a 996TT? No. Was I faster than the dentist driving the TT? Absolutely. On the other hand, what was kind of disappointing was I recently read an article online where a tuner Honda Fit beat my old time at Buttonwillow by 2 seconds and he was about the slowest of the group in that article. The track may have changed since '99 and the weather may not have been 105 degrees when they were out there like it was for me, but still, these articles can either pump you up or beat you down... -
I paid the asking price and the seller covered the closing costs. The way that this should be approached varies by where you are located and what the market is like. When I bought it was moving fast and furious. The only reason that my wife and I were able to buy our house in CA was that we were there within a few hours of it going on the market. We also engaged in a somewhat unscrupulous deal because the buying and selling agent were the same guy. But that's how we knew it was for sale, so I guess we kinda had to. We were using another agent prior to that and everything was sold before the first day was done. We kept going to houses only to find out they were already sold. Our agent didn't have the hookup I guess. I don't know what the market is like in WI, but I can't imagine it's anything like it was in CA 6 or so years ago when I bought. For what it's worth when we sold that same house it sold in 2 days. The market was still red hot but not quite as bad as when we bought. Check realtor.com and watch and see if you can find the same house for sale for a month or two or three. If that's the case then there is no way in hell you should be paying full price.

Wanna hear something else funny? I've been running 105 LL AV Gas for awhile. You need to be careful because their "low lead" is actually supposedly a LOT of lead. It isn't street legal, but it is entirely legal for you to fill up a gas can at the airport for your go kart, ATV, dirt bike, or other non-street engine. I've gone up to the pump and had a guy pull up his plane and STARE at me like "What the ♥♥♥♥ are YOU doin???" But there is no legal requirement for you to own a plane or have a pilot's license to buy the gas, at least that's how it was explained to me. Hell, you could buy some for your lawn mower if you wanted. But pulling up to the pump in a car is a big no-no, and you shouldn't do that.

That octane booster adds "7 points" right? WRONG. A bottle will take the gas from 93 to 93.7. You can figure it out yourself. It's mostly tolulene, which is 114 octane. Some mix it with xylene which is 118 octane. So I had figured that I needed 1 gallon of that to every 5 gallons of 91 to get 96 octane. 1/2 and 1/2 with your 93 pump gas only gets you 99.5 octane. From what I understand you really don't want to run more than about 33% tolulene because it is a strong alcohol and will eat your fuel lines and pump, etc. Just info for next time. Have him go get some race gas instead...

Thought maybe I should follow up and post the final results. Here is the completed frame. You'll see that I cut the front posts too short, so instead of recutting them (I had everything lined up PERFECTLY) I just put a little diagonal cap piece on to seal the tubes up. This isn't going to be very heavy so I wasn't too worried about strength.

Toyota S12-8 calipers, what stainless lines?
JMortensen replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
The stock caliper has a short section of hard line shaped like an S. It's probably 4 or 5" of tubing. It screws into the caliper, then the stainless line attaches to it. If you take that piece off and transfer it to the Toy calipers, then you can run the normal Z stainless lines on the new calipers, because you have the same 10mm female double flare ends on both the caliper and the hard line that attaches to the frame rail just like the original had. -

JMortensen replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
If you take the little S shaped pieces off of the stock calipers than you can use normal 240Z stainless lines.
