350 to original 3 speed auto.possable, yes/no ?
twoeightythreez replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Sure it's possible. Make an adaptor plate, question is, why? TH350 that comes with a 350 isn't that much bigger, isn't much heavier, is geared for the V-8, and it probably will cost about the same to get a custom driveshaft as a custom bellhousing, but at least with the D/S you get a stronger driveshaft to go along wiht your strong tranny. ON top of all that, you can use your stock DATSUN shifter on the TH350 with very easy mods, so why bother keeping the datsun tranny unless you're keeping a datsun motor? Datsun rearend was strong, driveshaft was not. Good luck! -
Can't believe that first jump...was amazing! http://videos.streetfire.net/video/c68aebfc-9261-476d-a1ab-0bfd5ac8697f.htm

eventually the salt air just destroys everything. Perfect testing ground for paint samples Yup that's where my Z was parked when I was on the Nimitz. It held up really well considering the paint was so bad for 3 years. Back in PA now and the Z is in a rented garage.

240ztt, I could swear that front view shows an older PA state insp. sticker. DId you find that 810 in Pennsylvania?

I don't know how many miles my N42 L28 had on it when I pulled it but it still ran strong. (It had at the very least 144k but probably had 244 or even 344k on it) From what I've read the Nissan N42 and F54 blocks both have very high nickel content and it's very rare to have excessively worn cyl walls. The F54 has thinner walls so you can't bore it out as much (so I've read here) but if you do find bore wear even the F54 walls have sufficient thickness to allow oversize boring.

I'm sorry, I jsut have to...... "Only used twice"! (we broke it the second time but they dont' need to know that)

Two40muscle, I also thank you for that post. I never meant to imply that they get to skate out of what they did, but how come they get a chance to fight for thier lives while she doesn't. Fate is such a motherfucker. -

BjHines, I totally don't agree with raising the driving age. That would make things even worse (how would kids get back and forth to college, employment, etc...thier parents?) You would simply have people driving illegally then. (Especially if you're in the military and married, how would you get to your home from the base? Public transportation isn't allowed on the base!) If you're gonna vote for a change in teh licensing policy, vote to make it harder to get one, not to raise the driving age! If the license was somthing you had to work at to get and was easy to lose people wouldn't chance it by doing stupid crap. If you're gonna change a driving age, implement a "maximum" driving age. after, say age, 55, make drivers requalify every year, and if they're caught doing stuff like going 40mph less than surrounding traffic, I think it's time to rip it up. I mean, yes kids do stupid stuff intentionally but just because some old fart who can't see and respond well enough to drive does them unintentionally does not make it any better. -
http://www.sunamiturbo.com/sunamiturbo.html Wow...only 119.95, too! What a bargain! This way you don't have the embarrassment of having your friend lean out the window and shout "psst" at every light! Now, when ver. 2.0 comes out you can also get a piece of brake line with a restrictor, a pump, a full throttle switch, and a resovoir of diesel fuel! (diesel not included) Professional installation recommended. Exhaust manifold needs to be drilled and tapped to allow installation of the nozzle. This way when your slow-ass car gets passed you can say an I/C pipe blew off and you went way rich! (see the black smoke?) and then if they're persistent you can keep on it till your car catches on fire and say your intake manifold welds cracked, NOS got on the spark plug and blew your car up. (just to let you know this IS a joke please don't PM me for install tips)

It's not ugly. It just looks like a shrunken mercedes of that era. As far as teh woodgrain goes, how is that any different than the current "ricer" and "bling" fads? (I know I'm getting flamed for this but it'll be worth it) At least the 80's cars started out ugly, so the woodgrain didn't do too much damage. The ricer movement is worse. I wonder what goes on in thier heads. "Lets take a perfectly proportioned small car (like a 10-yr old civic) and let's make it look as outlandishly gaudy and tacky as we can! Sweet, now that's a chick magnet!" "Now, let's take any room left for chicks and fill it with sound equipment! Ya that's f'n sick dude!" NOw let's put an exhaust that sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard, and add brightly colored illegal lights that run all the time and blind everyone else, then drive like a-holes, and when we get pulled over it's police profiling!! So now to prove how badass we are we're gonna give the cop attitude so he can search the whole car!! Fun!! It's like when this fad started they saw "austin powers" and actually thought it wasn't an exaggeration, so they decided to exaggerate. I sincerely hope that "topgear" is still filming when this crazy fad is over so we can all watch these automotive tributes to abstract art get destroyed.

And still...someone will try to flame this, citing discrimination of young drivers in loud cars, something that has been going on ever since young drivers started modifying cars. (As if police profiling started with civics, ya right it started with model t's with no fenders and a caddy motor shoehorned in.) It's just a shame that anyone has to die, but why is it always the ******* that gets a second chance? Intolerable. (even if he is going to prison he still gets to be alive, and he eventually will get out, and do the same stupid ♥♥♥♥, because most likely he will think he's an even bigger badass than he thinks he is now.) -
he's right, the fence came back down but you can see the bumper shape bent into the chain link. Also notice the gap between teh poles and the chain link. Cop probably was told to cut off the chase because of the extremely reckless driving. He obviously had a plate number and a description, so why risk innocent lives? I'm surprised he didn't stop the car (by ramming it) when he had that chance as it spun out, there was no traffic and the car was going so slow at that point that even if it went into the median and rolled over there wouldn't have been much damage. I'm sure a crown vic or caprice with a bullbar would easily win over a fwd corsica. Maybe there was a baby or child in the car and somebody was about to get killed if the chase continued.

Winches certainly help (but mostly with heavy american iron) A Z car you could probably just use a heavy duty come-a-long. That and some straps to the frame and some wheel chocks should doya fine. The wheel tiedowns have another issue...it's harder see a problem when on a bumpy road since the car's already jumping around so much. (you won't know they loosened till the car starts jumping off the trailer!) At least if a strap to the frame parts you will know something is wrong instantly when the car starts pogo-sticking. (though the wheel tie downs are certainly a good secondary securing device) At least...that's my guess...I don't own a car trailer but helped on occasion with people who did have them.

BTW, I paid the ticket. I didn't want Chuck roundhouse kicking me back to texas to show up in court.
-
I really don't have a prob with it, I respect, but please will an officer from El Paso please get me off the stupid mailing list?? (I was driving home across country, got a ticket in El Paso, 70 in a 60, was going with traffic), but it's alright, I was speeding, I'm guilty, so I pay the ticket when I got home 3 days later. I went online, found my violation at the city website, and paid it online. The thing I'm pissed off about is that now every law firm, every creditor, every bail bondsman, every bank, and every pizza place in El Paso is sending me junk mail...to Pennsylvania. I thought using the official city website would avoid this, but I guess it's a new technique. Speed in Texas if you're out of state, fine we give your address to telemarketers and spammers, that'll teach ya good! All I can say is.....spamming the violator to death is definitely working.....you will more likely hit a unicorn that jumped in front of your car and get impaled on it's horn than see me driving through the great state of texas ever again.

It is a stylish 2+2 and its a little bit (not much) larger than S30. You mean the 2+2 S30, I assume? I'm not talking about the length...the width...next to a Z that thing looks like a 76 thunderbird. I mean it's styled to look big but it definitely succeeded. (at least next to a Z.) -
I was able to adjust mine so you don't have to slam them too hard, but they're still hard to open once shut. (and the doors still don't shut flush with the 1/4 panel...MSA weatherstip is way way too thick.) The 280z setup IMHO is the best one, with the GM-style striker bolt in the doorjamb. The only problem with the GM-style strikers is that once they wear you have to slam the doors hard just to get them to latch, and they still don't seat tight (so they rattle) My suburban is really bad in this matter, if you latch it on the primary latch you can't even get it to seat on the secondary..... But, at least once they latch they stay latched. I believe that once I get around to dissassembling and cleaning the latches and replacing the striker pins I'll be back in business. (I believe there is a rubber bumper inside the latch that usually wears away, the datman.co.uk site details on this...this will make doors hard to close also) For now I have to carefully make sure the doors latch (if you slam them hard the latches won't catch and the door bounces back open! It's funny to see it when someone gets a ride and then slams the door shut upon getting out, only to be hit by the door!) I also lock the doors once inside, since the stiker pins are worn the there is not enough tension on the handle and the latch can disengage on a bumpy road going fast if it's not locked. (It's happened only once, and that passenger will NEVER ride with me again..I guess the right door opening on you in a hard left can do that to a passenger already white-knuckled....) Yes, datsun door hinges are very strong. The door stayed with the car, a quick right and door latched.

MAN Huntington Beach cops ruined my life! I call them Terminators haha andy "Have you seen this boy?" I guess Wayne got a ticket too?

This is a good explanation of why cali drivers are the way they are..it's hilarious
-
Ooh....another example of a finely trained california driver....yay! I'm so glad I got away form there with my life......5 years of dodging these people turned my hair grey. Look at the road...completely dry, not even raining! Great skillz there friend. At least here out east we have to have ICE or SNOW for stuff like that to happen...geez. (and usually we don't crash we just get stuck.)
-
Welp that's the reason they call it "arrest me red"....people who like red are generally the type of personality that like attention...gotta take the good with the bad in that case.....red cars are cop bait, always have been always will be. And on the "modified" thing...usually, unless you're a ricer.., you modify a car to make it FASTER.....if people didn't drive like THIS..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6iC_MXBsfc which is what most people call "driving" in SoCal...and most other places too but it's the WORST there.... Maybe if people would actually take responsibility for thier actions (look at the comments, you can tell who's from cali just from the comments...."it was teh ROAD, it was under CONSTRUCTION, if you knew the situation you would think different" ) Maybe if people would actually drive a car instead of GUIDE a car, and pay attention to the road instead of a cell phone, and the cops didn't have to respond to accidents like these that will be written down as "speed related" not "dumbass related" like it should be, and thier training video will show that "speed" not "carelessness" caused this, maybe cops wouldn't ahve such a prejudice against speed, and cars that look fast.

In AZ sometime's they'll slap you with a ticket about resource usage. I remember reading about how that ticket came about...when they did the national 55-mph speed limit they made that up for people that still would be speeding but not in the eyes of the officer (so you're "wasting resources"...cop's happy he got to meet his quota...you're happy you got a 10 dollar ticket and no points....) I agree with (limiting) the cop bashing thing. They do so much to keep us safe, sacrifice so much of thier lives and most of it is helping people...the tickets are a requirement they have to to to justify the long days. Besides....every time u get a ticket, it's basically just making up for the 10+ times you DIDN'T get caught....much rather get caught for "accelerating too fast" or "exibition of speed" or "window tint" or "loud stereo or exhaust" than for "going 95 in a 65" and "going to jail" (and it's not hard to hit 95+ in any hybrid Z esp. when passing on a 2-lane road with a 55-mph speed limit....) anyday. (shoot it's not hard to hit 95+ in a STOCK Z car)

How much do you think they want for that cosmo? It's gotta be saved...old jap tin is getting really rare nowadays.....and more collectible since thier wacky styling is actually starting to look good in light of modern cars. I know it looks positively HUGE next to a Z car but it's really not that big, right? (the cosmo) I'm guessing it's about the size of a modern mazda 6? -

That website says nothing about the older ones like the one in the picture. What is that a 1975? (actually it has to be older than that unless it's a non-us spec car...no crash bumpers...) It would make a really, really, really cool hybrid doncha think? (turbo rotary or LSx series in there.....) I've never seen one, and I've been all over the world when I was in the Navy. Amazing. The looks are still growing on me on that cosmo...it's a weird cross between a 1974 torino (front end) and a nissan cedric 2 door (rear and sides) for those of you that don't know what a 1974 cedric looks like, think what you would get if you mixed a '73 charger back end with an LTD side profile and a chrysler front end, then shrink it by 2/10 and you have a 1974 datsun cedric. Here's a link to one... http://www.datman.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=112 I wish they sold those here at one time, it would be a cool car to pick up z's with....esp. 260's (tow a 260z with a 260c...i know I'm weird) -
It makes perfect sense...the same way doing a burnout can get you cited for "reckless driving" even if the car never moves..... and you can get "careless driving" (like reckless except you don't go to jail for it automatically and you don't automatically lose your license) for accelerating too fast even if you don't hit the speed limit. ...the same way you can get a DUI for being inside a car with the keys on your person, sleeping it off, even if you didn't drive it anywhere... I think it's the whole "we didn't catch you (speeding, driving drunk, or stupidly) but you had to have been doing it if we caught you doing this in front of a cop" thing. Oh well. Oh ya...forgot...it's also a convinient way for a police officer to stop somebody if he "suspects" something, too. Basically it's just one of those laws that depend on the cop's opinion for enforcement, such as window tint. (If you get a ticket for tint he's probably not pulling the meter out unless you complain, in which case you're getting a ticket for SOMETHING if your tint passes since you inconvinenced him, he's gonna inconvinence you.) Since I've gotten back in PA I've found out another interesting trinket here....in Pennsylvania it's now legal for a policeman to pull you over soley for not wearing a seatbelt. (before you had to be pulled over for something else, then you would also get sited for the seatbelt violation.) Talk about something that can be manipulated. I'm glad I always wear my seatbelt Not that it's a bad law, but it kinda pisses me off to see you're REQUIRED to wear a seatbelt in Pennsylvania but if you so choose you don't have to wear a motorcycle helmet while riding a motorcycle?????
