  1. I am a recent University grad and the only advice I can offer you is to really and honestly think about what you are getting yourself into. In way am I trying to persuiade you to persue something else but I know myself I was way to immature to understand the importance of what I was getting myself into. I wish I would taked something other than computer science. Job market is terrible right now. Just remember you are going to devote 3-5 yrs on average to this and a whole lot of money. Be sure you make a wise decision because its damn hard to start over. I don't want to be downer but I wish someone would have stressed the importance a bit more to me. You don't want to switch programs half way through, you can never get those years back. On a brighter side, automotive school would be great fun!!
  2. Hell man take charge of the shop problem. No shop can charge you for work work without you signing a work order. Simply tell them that you will not pay for work you did not ask for. Busniess is business regardless of how you got connected with them. Never let someone take you for a ride. As far as your family goes I have been there too, best wishes to both your grandmother, father and cousin. I am sure your old man will be fine, my old man has been through hell health wise, its amazing how people can recoup from things. Hope this doesn't spoil your holidays. Jonesy
  3. I am not exactly familiar with hand grenades but if that was real would they not have been hit with shrapnel????
  4. When I was sixteen I worked at a Huskey Truck Stop(canadians will understand). Me and the guys were on break and we went back to enjoy a smoke in the huge sand parking lot where all the trucks park. Evidently someone had emptied a large amount of flamable liquid on the ground (gas it must have been). Anyways I dropped my butt and was instantly standing in 3 foot green flames. Everyone literally jumped back and went bananas. I was fine but the soles of my shoes were melted. I will never forget looking down and seeing my entire legs below the thighs emersed in flame.
  5. Start with the JTR v8Z book, then buy their TBI/TPI swap book, those 2 should answer 80-90 percent of your questions. As far the computer goes I have no idea what diagnostic tools are available for but I would start by cleaning every connection and checking out the sensors. Swap another computer in if you can get your hands on one. Good luck
  6. Guy I know of (i just remember the commotion around the cnc machine) CNC'd his out of aluminum then polished it up. He said he just made relational mesurements of the edge of the shift lever in each gear so he had a rectangle encompasing the extremeties of the lever movement. Then he just cut out a cardboard trial template, fixed it in place and then just kept trimming it until it fit right. Then he programmed it all into the machine and out it came. He screwed it in place and it looked pretty good. He had a 5 sp tho. I imagine that it took a good bit of work. Good luck!
  7. I remember years ago I found a site about a guy who did the ford swap. He used the stock oil pan of some ford vehicle, I think it may have been a truck but If I recall it was a dual sump pan.
  8. How can it be possible for a graph not to cross at the point, I thought hp = (rpm * torque)/5252 so that if rpm = 5252 then hp=torque ?? Hp is just a funtion of torque.
  9. Mine took way over a month, I think 6 weeks sounds about right.
  10. Assuming you are using IE, go into your internet options and add the site to your trusted sites list. Reset all zones to default and try that. Also again try to to connect to actual posts and not just the portal.
  11. OK, thanks but what is being refered to by 1.5 or 1 way?
  12. I see an opportunity to learn something here. I know little of differentials besides the basic open diff design, could someone explain this to me?
  13. Just post a reply to his feedback explaining it and then leave your own feedback for him. If I see a person with only a few negative feedbacks and then see explanations for them I usually don't worry. If you feel like spending 10 or 20 bucks you can lodge a complaint and hopefully have it removed. Goodluck.
  14. Is it just me or is that 20,000 4x4 missing a front drive shaft??
  15. I like imports but I don't understand the obsession with hondas. My 95 mx-6 with a klze swap (same as the standard 2.5 v6 but with higher compression and different I-manifold) cost me a grand total of 1500 canadian. I paid 900 for the motor and jpec lsd 5-spd. 400 dollars in bolt ons and misc junk . I ran a 14.3 on street tires and perfect shifts. Its by no means amazingly fast but it behaves exactly like a stock car, gets 30mpg and corners great. IT would cost way more to get the same performance out of a honda. I just don't get hipe, except for the fact that hondas in general are easy to work on. There are better import platforms if you just want performance for your dollar. At least if you have modest goals like myself and the car still needs to serve as a primary vehicle.
  16. I built one out of an old industrial control panel/cabinet. All said and done it cost me 75 dollars for the window, gloves and fittings. Took 2 afternoons to build and you can fit an engine in it. There isn't much too making one, and a good size retail cabinet can be very expensive.
  17. I am not sure what u mean by remote twin turbo system but 10:1 is a bit high for that. And also if you only plan on running small levels of boost why go twin turbo? In todays world I see no real advantage of trying to mix turbos with carbs. Wiring can be a pain but with the amount of information and knowledgeable people on this board alone you can't fail. I would personally go EFI if boost is involved. TPI is a great and easily available EFI system for SBC but it is not ideal for a sports car. High rpm and TPI don't mix and the whole system is designed to build lower to mid range torque in stock trim. Not all that important in a small light Z. If you just want to get the car moving I would just use your carb.
  18. http://www.dvdshrink.org/ Go there and download dvdshrink, its freeware. It will allow you to rip the video off your dvd and store it on your computer as an iso or other file type. Then you either burn it to a blank dvd if you have a dvd burner, make a SVCD if you have a regular cd burner or you can reauthor the video to a smaller lower quality video file for distrobution on the web. PM me if you need any help with this, I would be glad to help you get this setup and I can host files on the web for ya. Jonesy
  19. You can "RIP" the video off the DVD and store it on your pc in your choice of formats. There are many programs you can use to do this.
  20. I am no mustang fun but at least around hear late model mustang gt's are so cheap you really can't beat them for performance for your dollar. Late model camaros are way overpriced.
  21. How would you connect two cranks to 1 transmission? Also you would have balance power, it would weight a ton, you would have to cool 2 engines, and a host of other problems, absolutely no advantage to simply building a single engine with the output of two stock engines. However I do remember the adds for the twinstar eldorado's...
  22. Why would you want to use an adapter when you can just grap a GM t-5? They are pretty cheap and bolt right up.
