  1. There are lots of great mazda engines, if you are looking turbo, the F2-T out of a 1st gen mx-6/preobe can be mated to a few rwd trannies. I know people making 300plus hp with them fairly easily. The B6 ZE jspec miata engine is another good choice. Also you should check out the mazda kl series engines, they are v6 but they range in displ from 1.8 to 2.5 litres and they are so small they are very popular for sqeezing into cars that originally had 4cyl. My 200 hp klze cost me 1050 shipped to my door from japan. It revs past 7k and is perfect for a light car. You can get 240 hp easily avoiding all the hassle of a turbo. Someone out there has developed rwd applications for them. My friends klze powered 323 runs low 13's with a completely stock klze. I love mazda engines because people don't usually think of them for performance applications and you can get them dirt cheap!!
  2. What is the status on the car, when I first joined the site you were in the thick of things w/ that car and posting 10 pics a day. Hasn't been news in a long time.
  3. How about you show us some video of the "hulk", then spend time on this blue thing, we have waiting long enough already!!
  4. I agree that video makes me angry. I am not against honest hunting but I do belive one should never kill an animal you don't plan to eat and one should never bait an animal in order to kill it. That was not hunting its just some jerks killing an aminal for fun. I would have had little sympathy if that lion had won the fight. Just to rant but last year some morons from out of country stayed in the provincial park nearby, left food all around their campsite then shot an killed a mother bear and cub who came by with their gun they had illeagally in the first place (no guns in parks). I am sick of hearing about trourists who complain about bears while they go to sleep with a half eaten snikers bar in their sleeping bag. Then the animal catches a bullet for human stupidity. Wow that had nothing to do with the video, I think this thread hit a nerve with me
  5. Ah, I feel proud to be Italian, lol.
  6. If it was smooth on the side where it meets the quarter panels it would look much better in my Opinion, It just looks to big and does not match the rest of the car.
  7. Isn't there a 4.0 lexas motor in one of the Z's featured in the JTR book?
  8. If you are going straight there is a chance.
  9. I picked up a free l69 rebuilt motor off my buddy and was going to put it in as a budget motor until I got laid off lol, anyways its hardly a powerful motor but its will make a decent ground pounder in a Z for street use. I would just lose the factory carb. You said yourself that its just a budget project and v8 torque will make any Z fun. If the motor is in good shape pick it up. Seems like a good deal to me.
  10. I think the race he is thinking of is now called the Gumball 3000 (3000 miles). http://www.gumball3000.com It was in the US last year and is now in France for 2004.
  11. If its an LSD R180 its probably from a Subaru, u know the year? 510 guys use subaru 180 for cheap LSD source. They were in many subaru models aroudn 90-92 or something like that.
  12. It depends on how you approach the issue, most dealer's allow extra time for a job to be taken. My thinking is that I make sure the person working on my car is qualified and that I trust them then I pay him however long it takes him to do the job, not what some standard says it is. If it takes him longer than someone else so be it, thats who I hired, and if he has the skill and tools to do it in half the time, then I should only pay for the time he spent. I DO agree that sometimes you pay for the knowledge not the work, but most of the time when dealing with mechanics I think again, that I should only pay the hourly rate for time actually worked. Nothing more nothing less. **Edit** then of coarse I remember some time some idiot mechanic spent three hours trying to figure out why the alignment wouldn't work out on my girlfriends car when the suspension had to be under load to check it out properly. I went bananas when they tried to charge her for the time, so I am not sure what point I am trying to make ... you win
  13. This is how mechanics make money. How else would they afford the $40K in TOOLS that they have to work on your car? I don't know one mechanic who has been in the biz for over 10 years that doesn't have AT LEAST $40K in their tool box. The job times are not rated by the dealer, they come from an independent source (sorry, can't remember the name of the book). Mechanics that I know make anywhere from $15 to $25 per hour. Show me another profession that requires such a HUGE investment in tools in order to make such a measly wage. I know people hate mechanics, and I know there are a FEW crooked wrenches out there, but by and large they are honest and they've got a hell of a lot of time and money invested in tools and expertise so that they can make 12 hours flat rate in an 8 hour day. Jon I must disagree. Every business has its expenses, if you order a pizza do you expect them to overcharge you simply becuase they had to buy an oven and a pan? I agree that toosl and such are quite an investment for a mechanic but by and large tools last a life time and are just a business investment like anything else. In no way does that merrit a mechanic to overcharge in any way, Its money spent for services rendered, nothing more in my book.
  14. Rebuilding the engine is out of the question at the momement. The truck runs great except for this problem. Anyone have any experience with an oil additive or product to fight this problem. Obviously you can't eliminate this without rebuilding the motor but any ideas that might help quiet it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
  15. One day we had better see a video of that car posted here. Darius may have been dethrowned.

    Would this work?

I have no idea, but I would guess no, even if the spline was correct I am willing to bet the length would not be. Z axles shouldn't be too hard to find.
  17. Use adhesion promotor, I had posted picks of my painted plastic interior last year sometime. Sand each piece, clean it, apply adhesion promotor, paint then put a couple coats of cheap spray can clear coat. It will hold up great.
  18. Hi guys, My uncle bought a 96 chevy truck with a 305 and 110,000 kilometers. It makes a ticking sound when running. Aparently due to the short piston design, the piston skirt slaps the cyclinder wall. This makes a ticking sound. Anyone out there famliar with this? Any information on how to combat this problem would be great. Thanks Jonesy

  20. I have talked briefly to a few people that had them and heard nothing but positive things, all were street cars and all basically said the same thing, its actually works, its not the smoothest thing, but you can't beat it for the money. Have no idea how they wear tho..
