  1. i some ways the bigger piston diameter is better than a small diameter piston of a replacment cartridge.i have run tokico illumina struts with my coil overs for years .with the springs i run i need more rebound dampening but the struts are not double adjustable like a modern dirt bike shock.you can get different weight fork oil at motorcycle shops.the shim stacks on the bottem of the shock piston may be able to be changed but you might have to dissassemble another set for more small parts.a shock dyno would be a big help because then you wouldnt have to put the strut back on the car to test it-it would be within 90% of good enough when it went back on car.good luck-sometimes you learn from your work instead of spending money.
  2. my girlfriend has a 2000 maxima with same engine rated at 220 hp.no timing belts-cams are chain driven.engine has a electric smoothness to it plus ferrari like growl at higher revs.a stock 350z engine in an early 240 would probably be a low 13 or high12 car that gets 30 mpg.not a hot rod but a very good daily driver.
  3. if you needed a z commute car you could just get an old nissan maxima diesel and turbo it.it would bolt in .bmw has a v8 twin turbo diesel in europe that pushes a 5 series to 150+ mph.supposed to get 30 mpg at 100 mph.the new efi-diesel technology with turbo makes the engines work better with less smoke & noise.
  4. goto www.sdsefi.com and look under projects.there is a 2nd gen supra in there with a twin turbo efi sbc.he used 2 turbos from a 80's tbird.if you can find a copy of popular hot rodding jan 2002 issue there is a 4th gen vette in there that runs 1300 hp.it all depends on your budget.2 t3 will be real torquey but wont make power past 5 or 600 rpm.
  5. i dont know if you can order from summit but they have the gt40p( explorer heads) new with valves and springs for $480 or so.if you have some old heads that need guides and seats changed you can get to this price very quickly in a machine shop.the gt40p heads are supposed to flow very well with minor bowl work.i spent $400 last year on getting a set of heads rebuilt for a 2.9l ranger v6.some 70s american parts were very bad as that is the year range that smog/emissions control was started.
  6. i have no doubt jeff will get his 600 hp.the big question is what kind of torque curve it will have for street driving.a while back i was on a supra site and they had a hp/torque curve posted for a 700 hp supra.it was flat untill 4000 rpm.between 4000 and 5000 it came on like a light switch.bmw and renault made over 1000 hp with a 1.5 liter engine in f1.i am getting a bigger turbo worked on for my car but i hope it has good low end torque when it is done.
  7. a company called street & performance makes good shorty or sanderson headers.lt1 has d shaped ports.best to talk to somebody that has done a zx.long tube headers are better if possable.street& performance makes perts for the street rod crowd.they specialize in efi motor swaps.
  8. i have a passport and a friend in osaka.i wonder how much for a few jdm engines.i could unload a bunch of b18c honda engines to cover the cost of rb motor.

    CV adaptors

i tried installing 280zxt cv axles with 240 stub axles in my 280 but put the 280 axles back in cause the sway bay links rubbed on the cv boots.do the cv boots rub with the cv adaptors on the 280 stub axles?i have a set of the adaptors but havent used them yet.dont want to change suspension set up on car -it took 3 years of track time to get it the way i like it.
  10. if any of the hybrid z folks knows anybody that wants a fast boat send them my email.i want to try to do something else besides fix cars for a living.the boat is the only thing i have a loan on.
  11. next fridayafter this-would that be the 30th?please post address of spot i can run my own map from mapblast.weekend of 23-24 i will be at tower park marina with the laid back boat club .if any body wants to come out they can ride shotgun in my boat.after last weekend i promise to keep it on the water.
  12. took my boat out to a lake for a radar gun run.calm water 8:30 am.went back about a mile from the gun cause i am running a lot of pitch on the prop.launched boat & hit motor trim.got going about 60 mph and trim up a little more.at about 75 or 80 boat went air born.got out of throttle about 1 foot off of water but it continued to climb to about 3 feet and then landed.then i looped back to rerun and got 99 mph.i was bummed because 2 other boats like mine ran 113 and 117.motor is not set on back of boat correctly i found out.hull weighs 750 lbs and motor is 260 hp.for a look at the type of boat i own goto www.miragepowerboats.com
  13. i thought that t3/t4 i have laying around loooks big!kind of looks like a turbo form a ford powerstroke diesel.nascar uses oval section exhaust tubing-you might need to run some oval section under trans of car.if it doesnt spool quick enough just do what the honduh guys do-a small shot of n02 at low rpm.you must be going for the darius sideways in 4th action on the freeway.nothing gets a better adrenaline rush better then counter steering at 70 mph.when are you going to come over for your boat ride?
  14. street & performance makes show car quality street rod stuff.the shorty headrs should work.the lt1 has d shaped ports-they make a shorty just for lt1.
  15. i work in back in front end and brakes.but i have a smog license and build rear ends and do a lot of odd ball stuff like air suspension and abs work.the dyno doesnt read out hp like a dyno jet but its better than nothing.i use it to check speedo accuracy.
  16. the old bmw's and mercedes with 6 and v8 had huge fuel pumps.the cis injection looped most of the fuel back to tank.the bmw operating pressure was about 95 psi.jag v12 had a big pump too.some of us like to shop at the local pick&pull and leave the new stuff as a last resort.
  17. many late models run a fuel pump that is pulsed by the ecm and use a fuel pressure sensor on the fuel rail.there is no return line.as long as rail pressure is at factory specs car will run fine.i would probably tee the pressure regulator into line very close to engine and return fuel to tank.a 75 or 76 tank works well and has a 7/16 out hose for fuel pump.
  18. zya-if the 2003 cobra you saw at the track was a convertable it belongs to a sales man at work.i work at big valley ford.he sent it down to la to ahave a bunch of stuff put on it.i didnt want to work on it cause that guy is a d^&* and he doesnt want to pay even though a good month he make 10 g selling cars.since he had a bunch of aftermarkit stuff done we wont do warrenty work on it now anyway.i run the smog dyno-bring your car by sometime.
  19. i got this turbo about a year or so ago from a sand rail supply in pheonix.its is a t3/t4 .the compressor is supposed to be a 60-1.the turbine housing that came with the turbo is a .63 with no waste gate.the oem nissan turbine housing bolted on.i was thinking about sending the oem nissan housing and the turbo out and have the housing machined and a stage v turbine wheel installed.the turbine housing probably came small because sand rails have lots of room for external waste gate.some of the small engines are probably running about 50% of their exhaust through waste gate under full power.
  20. what t3 turbine housing has least amount of exhaust restriction?want to build a good turbo for a street /road couse car.dont care about huge dyno numbers.if the car make 350 hp at the wheels on pump gas and can run to the track and then run 2 hours of track time.then run home and to work.i dont spin more than about 6500 on the track.but thundehill has that 4000 ft straight and hitting turn 1 at 150 or so would really wake you up.
  21. i have heard rumors that a diesel crank will break if spun more than 7000 rpm.most of rebellos engines are headed for scca use .a turbo engine and a track engine are 2 different things.that diesel crank is heavy-i have pulled them out at pick&pull.
  22. depends on if you are getting total amount at a steady throttle (cruise) mode or on a dyno at a wot pull.unless engines are built identical the best advance curve for every engine will be different.a boosted engine usually needs very little advance.an article i read by a honda race engine builder said his total timing under boost was 24 btdc.26 would make a little more hp but blow head gaskits.a na motor has room for error until it is tuned correctly.
  23. check the TOTAL advance at 3500 rpm or so with the vacuem advance hooked up.should be 35 to 38 be could work dowm to about 32.total is initial+mechanical+ vacuem.you will need about 12 before with the cam.you can change the vacuem can to an adjustable unit.they adjust with an 1/8 allen wrench through the vacuem nipple.if you get a ping on light accel you can make it so it takes more vacuem to get the advance.the vacuem advance is for fuel milage/high way cruising.it helps to have a dial timing light.or find a good shop that knows how to set up distributors but that is becoming a lost art.
  24. i work as a tech at a ford dealer-we have trouble with autolite.as far as my datsun i only run ngk or nippon denso.funny how all the dirt bikes & water craft only run ngk?my merc outboard boat engine uses ngk as oem.
