i havent put mine on because i am trying to think of what to do with sway bay mount hole.i have thought about checking run out when welding up though.you would need to chuck axle flange into something and spin assembly.then tack in 2 spots and recheck.

i run a magnaflow 3" on my turbo z .it sound good-no hollow sound like flowmaster.it loks like a borla inside but is much less money.i dont think a baffled muffler is good for a turbo any way.muffler has been on 2 years .

i have a friend in fresno with a t56 behind a l28 turbo-he used a l28et t5 bell housing and did some machine work to it.the zf trans is supposed to be noisy and heavy-it was oem on some years of corvettes.even with 3.54 rear in my turbo z i could use a 6th gear-i was coming back from car z show in bay area and cruising at 80 mph and people were passing me.the jtr book about swapping tpi motors into early chevy has a rundown on zf and t56 trans-i have that book.

some of the mustang sites sell late model ford explorer heads cheap or you could go aluminum.afr heads are probably too big for 302 on street.bigger ports = less velocity at low rpm =less torque.ford has trans called aod -the late model mustang guys use these on street-strip cars with 3.73 or 3.55 rear.if you have 8" rear get a pumpkin from a mustang 2 that has a 2.8 v6 -that was 3.55.a good 302 with a aod would be fun in early mustang.

Alignment Specs. from everyone...
randy 77zt replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
street or track?i change car for track days.street is -1.5 camber 3 caster .1 inch toe rear -.7 camber toe .2 toe-toe is inward.track is -3.5 camber 0 toe 3 castor rear is -2.5 camber .2 toe in .toe units are tenths of an inch.i set the car up on hunter alingment rack at work the night before a track event and realign when i get home.i drive it to track on track tires.you can test drive it at stanford nissan. -
if it is ford to ford yes.if it is a 280zxt t5 and you want to put a 280zxt bellhousing to a wc t5 you will find bolt pattern the same but the input bearing retainer is a little bit larger around on wc t5.

mostly what you swap in depends on your wallet and welding and fab capabilities.i really want a 20b 3rotor twin turbo mazda engine in my z but unless i take a 2nd loan out on my house it wont happen.
-
pturboz-i will be at stanford nissan too.i will bring new turbo for you to look at.i was at a used jap engine shop a year ago and they had some non-us spec engines sitting around.the engine that caught my eye is whats called a nissan cima engine.it is dohc v6 with single turbo-the guy wanted to sell these cheap.i am a scrounge-cheap or free is best.

this motor has all acessories directly mounted to engine.alternator is in center of v on top,ac compressor is on lower right of block,ps pump is lower left.there is no sump in front.spark plugs are on top of heads between valve covers and intake manifold.ignition is either coil packs with plug wires or 2000 up has little direct fire coils on each plug.engine is wide but since plugs are on top its no big deal.dohc cobra engine is aluminum block.the lincoln mark 8 had dohc but with iron block.best way to get some thing like this is to bid at salvage pool auction if possable-cut out the auto wrecker middle man.then strip car and sell what you dont use.also the 1999 cobra and mark 8 have a 8.8 irs rear and a 3.27 or 3.55 works good.

cool-now i know i dont have the only swapped in turbo z in the county.i will have to go check it out.
-
a ifinity q45 motor?i think you would have a hard time putting l28 in to engine bay-too long.the car should have been built with a vg30.that would fit easy.as far as swapping goes you are only limited by engine bay space and your budget.i you get a nice swap done post some pictures.

LT1 PCM- are auto & manual different?
randy 77zt replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
i dont have lt1 in my z but i am installing in the garage for a friend into a 66nova ss.the oem harness has MANY wires and ecm even controls a/c clutch cycling.if you can afford it get an aftermarkit harness-the install will turn out cleaner and be easier to trouble shoot.there are a few different people around that can reprogram ecm-tell them what parts of smog system you deleted(egr, air pump, vats)and they should be able to make run with no trouble codes.if you short the upper right hand pins on diagnstic plug the check engine light will flash the codes or you can get a cheap code reader at auto parts store.the aftermarkit harnesses should have a diagnostic port and check engine light wiring included. -
i am a tech at a ford dealer -i have thought about this but i have a turbo l28 in my car know and have a spare l28et to go.these engines run real smooth.kind of wide but spark plugs are on top.front of sump will fit over cross member.you wil have to get ecm reprogrammed because you wont have some of the emission stuff(cats, evap system)and it will through codes.get factory evtm for year of motor(wiring harness book)unlike gm the ford wiring book is separate from service manual.

that video has been bouncing around z sites-its like napster for z cars instead of music.not the original link but thats ok.i got that on my hard drive and i showed to one of my hard core chevy buddies.he says he wont race any v8 z cars with his vette now.having a car that can light um up on the freeway would almost be better than a night with the girlfriend.

the impedence would matter if the sds couldnt handle the current flow of a low impedence injector.i would call sds on that and make sure.what rx7 had 550cc injector?there are some 2nd generation injected 13b rx7 at local pick&pull-i could get some and send them to coast fuel injection or rc engineering to have them cleaned & flowed.

i have emailed out responses to people that want one in order that they were recieved and i am 1 short at this time but that probably wont be a problem.tb came from a 98/99 explorer 4.0 sohc v6.i might be able to get a deal on NEW ones.i posted this as a service to the people on the forum that are using efi units like sds and need a bigger tb.

i was doing a clutch job on a 5.0 mustang at work and tried to bolt trans to l28turbo bellhousing.same bolt pattern but input bearing retainer in stang trans is just a little bigger.if my turbo l28 ever starts blowing up 82-83 zx nissan trans i might upgrade to a world class t5.

have a few 65mm throttle bodies from recalls on late model ford explorer.has tp sensor attached and set up for cable throttle.could work on nissan l28 with an adaptor plate or something like that.will send them if some body emails me but i want to be paid for shipping expense.he who dosent pay will be posted in the forums.
-
late model ford use these but most are to small for turbo use.probably made by bosch.it would be great if some body could get user/engineering manuals from bosch or lucas.
-
i am installing a 94 lt1 into a 66 nova for a friend.installed vintage air system.used ac & alternator brackits form street&performance in mena arkansas.website is www.tunedport.com.all polished billet.no problems with fit but expensive.this stuff is used on 30s & 40s street rods.lokar makes nice flexible dipstick tubes and throttle cables and cable brackits.

just plain bp8es-they work fine and are cheap.
-
85 4 bbl was a good motor-first year for roller cam-would be good for a z.
-
even though i have seen tec2 units mounted to roll cages on off-road race cars i dont like the fact that tec2 ecm mounts underhood-it gets up tp 115 degrees where i live plus water in winter.i think the ecm should be inside car.

i work in a ford dealer as a brake & front end tech.for those of you buying impact guns for 1/2" drive gun the ingersol-rand 244 has most power.tested it against snap-on on a spring eye bolt on a truck-the snap-on didnt do it.

nissan elct speedo sending unit work with AUTOMETER elect sp
randy 77zt replied to stony's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
most of the aftermarkit electronic speedos have a calibrate mode where you push a button at the start of a measured mile and you push button again at end of mile-then it locks the pulse count in-it should work fine.
