your best bet is to do a setup with a double wishbone style suspension. ie. supra or somethign of the like.

750 dp should work, what i'm using. there were alot of carbs at del mar swap meet and i'm pretty sure they were going for real cheap. october 10th North Houston Swapmeet (at Raceway) 409-722-6929

yes should be in another section... if HICAS is that rear-steer system, although good for commuting. when it comes down for racing and competition oriented driving, it is very unpredictable and just isn't made for it. good in theory, but that's about it. -steven m.

Fuel pump- Best and quitest.. please help!!
Sleeper-Z replied to love-my-V8-280Z's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
using a mallory fuel pump here with no problems 1+year. you can hear it whir before you turn on the motor, but after, the rumbling sort of distorts eerything between a 30 yard radius. ps. i believe i have the 140... -
i've found it easier using a cable set up instead of direct linkage. after making the right adjustments it's fine. that way, a world of shifters opens up to you... hurst, b&m, etc... i'll post a pic later when i'm on my other computer.

id recommend cleaning up the part where you cut for the intercooler plumbing. smooth, round, and paint to prevent rust and cuts.

Exaust port vs header pipe mis-match???
Sleeper-Z replied to HICKL's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
if you're worried about it, get the ol die grinder or dremel and do a port on the corners and edge em in. that's 'if' you have enough meat to port. glad to hear you got some heads. -steven m. -

goto a swap meet and build your motor from there... with that made in mexico motor by the time you're done with it and prepping it for blower applications you'll ditch everything except for the block. also get atleast a 650cfm. *note, just read that first motor comes with vortecs meaning unless you bought a intake specifically for vortecs, your gonna need a new one. in this case, get a bigger cam, machine the heads for larger springs, get larger springs, slap an edelbrock rpm manifold, and a 750 carb and you should be packin a little bit of a hit. p.s. those GM 8.5 pistons won't hold up to boost. -

kudos to you man. you'll certainly be tweaking the chassis with a big ol' 502. can't wait for the pics!

the heads i have are early models, no mods needed. as for the 1.7's, i haven't seen em' available for SBC's... steven m.

http://home.houston.rr.com/tbserv link for pics of the ported heads... you can't run lt1/ls1 heads on a 'normal' sbc. because of reverse flow cooling. well you can, but extensive modifications will need to be done (not worth it).
-
sent you a pm is that comp cam xe rated at .050? you can 'over-cam' a motor if the heads aren 't up to duty... not just springs, but flow as well...

some food for though, arc welding is a generalization. in reality there are basically 3 types. 1. stick (flux-cored) 2. mig (flux-cored or gas) 3. tig (gas) from my experiences, stick is hard to use on thin sheet, but with practice it can be done (heat is a big issue). mig is best bang for the buck looks clean and does a good job. relatively easy to use. we were using i believe miller 250's or 255's in class... i reccomend gas though, never got use to flux-core mig... tig, no experience. but as said above, best for non-ferrous metals, and if done correctly the most beautiful welds are done by tigging. -steven m.

No need to spend $350 unless i'm in the 11's! cage cert ($100) suit ($150) shield ($100) Safety is no issue in this car though, 10-point chromoly cage, driveshaft hoops (2), SFI cert. flex plate, and helmet. Only things i'm missing are a. scatter shield/blanket b. suit c. cage certified (will pass with flying colors). -
*cough* ported 461's with enlarged valves and complete! for $300 *cough* steven m.

i guess my z has been a garage queen most of it's life with me, but it's soon to change. i look at her in the garage and i get sad because i know she wants to be driven. i love having the z because before i started this project, i had barely any knowledge of how engines worked and what parts go with what etc. etc. my z is a learning experience. but it's all soon to change, she's getting new heads, cam, intake, carb and will hopefully be passed the 400 rwhp note and in the 11's. after that, i vow to drive her in the days tolerable (autumn, winter, early-spring, and summer when it's nice.) i don't care if i have to do a ninja flip over the 10-point, get squeezed by the 5-point, sweat with no a/c, freeze w/o a heater, or can't "jam out" with no radio. ima drive her! i love taking it to the local cruise-in and getting WTF looks because they don't know what it is, or why it sounds like that! my 2 best comments were from an older lady (maybe in her 70-80's) "i like what you've done to your car!" ;and while i was leaving the cruise-in spot "that car has got to be fast" said from a guy driving a nice cuda'. after all is said and done, i'm proud to spend my hard earned money on her and i couldn't ask for more. now that summer is over and school is going to begin i can only say one thing, i need another job. -steven m.
