  1. The crank and distributor mounted CAS components generate the same electrical signal. You can use either one with the 81 ECU you're running.
  2. Call the bank and ask how to proceed. I'm sure this happens all the time.
  3. I'm not eating at Burger King again............
  4. Well, its at $5,653 at the moment with 7+ days left...... Ebay Listing
  5. I'm starting to believe the key is not to have kids. I have four sons, 21,16 and twin 14 year olds. It starts off rather innocently with daycare costs, then clothes, $300 little league baseball bats, cars and then $40,000 / year college costs. It never ends!!
  6. Thanks for the info on silicone sourcing options. My plans are to transition from the 2.75 in/outlets on the intercooler to 2.25 piping with elbows. With my luck I probably won't be able to pull that off and will have to come up with a different plan. I hope that I don't have to resort to modificating the intercooler endtanks. It sure would make it easier if my Z was not under wraps at the moment!! Here is the intercooler I purchased on Ebay for $150. It's a Spearco 20x8x3.5 core.
  7. I'm in the process of planning out my spring intercooler install on my 81 280zxt and I need help finding a source for silicone reducer / transistion elbows. I would like to transistion from 2.75 intercooler inlets/outlet to 2.25 for the piping. Any ideas where I could find these?? I'm not sure if I will need 45's or 90's. The car is zipped up in its winter sleeping bag for another month. I've searched on this and other forums and also used google searches extensively. Thanks, any help would be appreciated. Phil
  8. I don't understand why anyone would go through the time and trouble of disassembling, photographing and listing all these items....if they go unsolid, he still has to pay the listing fees. They're 1 day auctions also. It must be some legal process.
  9. Hey, what's wrong with Bangor ME? LOL
  10. I ran the original auto ECU on my 81 zxt for a while after converting the tranny to a 5 speed. I then replaced it with a manual ECU from 82 zxt. The only difference I noticed was that the revs fell off faster between shifts with the auto manual ECU compared to the manual ECU. I found myself blipping the throttle with the auto ECU to keep the revs up between shifts. You also have to be careful of the model year of the ECU. Because the 81 zxt had external dropping ballast resistors, while 82 and 83 had them built into the ECU, the 81 ECU should only be used on 82's and 83's in conjunction with the external resistors from an 81 harness.
  11. I've read between 180 and 185.
  12. Just got my copy of SportZ and noticed Vin's car. He does have a very distinctive 280ZX!! They could have used a more flattering photo though. I was also surprised to see that my 280zxt also made the convention pictures!! though you need a magnifying glass to see it LOL.....upper left hand corner of photo 1 on page 63!! Silver over blue 81. Even got a name mention in the final standings listing, third place 280zx daily driver (don't tell anyone that there were only 3 entries).
  13. Hey Trouble, where in Maine is this Z? I'm originally from Northern Maine, 1/4 mile from the Canadian border...
  14. My twin boys are 14 years old today. I also have a 15 year old and a 21 year old, all boys!! Enjoy them while you can, they grow up very fast!!
  15. My 81zxt has the same venting when the gas cap is removed. I always thought this was normal for cars 20+ years ago.
  16. Whenever my 81 zxt is running bad, my a/f gauge shows a lean mixture. Reseating the ECU plugs is usually all I have to do to fx the problem. The only problem is that I'm having to go this procedure more often lately. I'm not sure why this is happening. The last time I even lubed the plugs up with dielectric grease, but the problem was back within a few days. I'm beginning to wonder if the plugs are working their way loose over time.....Until I can figure it out, the kick panel stays in the garage!
  17. In all fairness, shouldn't you return the $2500 minus the cost of storage since April ($2500 - $1500 ($300 * 5) => $1000), obtain a new title and resell the car?? The only issue is whether he has the title or not.....
  18. I have an extra set of snowflakes if they're interested.
  19. I'm currently in on Jeffp's group buy, but if that goes south for some reason I'd be interested in your downpipe. Phil
  20. I've already posted this on Zcar, but I thought I'd also pass it by here. I'm wondering if other people have experienced these pressure levels from their stock zxt. I recently installed an aftermarket boost gauge (Autometer)and an electronic boost controller (Greddy) on my 81 280zxt. Since I like to walk before I run, I installed the boost gauge first and watched it carefully for several days to understand what the stock boost level was and how the wastegate operated. To my surprise the stock boost was 7 pounds!! My understanding based on following this forum was that stock boost should be more in the 5.5 - 6 pound range. I then finished the installation of the Greddy boost controller and carefully started increasing the boost. As expected, the popoff valve vented, but at 9 PSI not the 7 PSI I had read on the forum. Is it possible that my boost gauge is not correctly calibrated? When the car is not running the gauge needle is slightly off center (to the right side of the box which marks zero for those with an Autometer boost gauge). I was hoping to get more bang for the buck by increasing the boost 4 or so pounds from the stock 5.5 PSI. If my stock numbers are correct, I'll only able to add two or so pounds to my setup. What have you guys experienced when you started messing with the stock boost?
