I would say the stock dash and wiring was about 50 - 75 lbs maybe more. I completely took out all the wiring up to the stock plugs for lights and wipers. That is I clipped the wiring harness out and left long pigtails on all the stock wiring plugs Then I wired it by hand. Not pretty. I have hot terminal block under the dash. I ran hot legs with inline fuses off the terminal block to switches for ign dash lights fuel pump fan lights wiper. I dont like my exhaust and will redo it under the car. I got a good deal on the pipes and it was one less thing to worry about during the main build. http://68.10.5.69:8081/v80z/CV/index.html that is the only pic I got online now. I can take some. It does a 90 straight back from the blockhugger the another 90 back out behind the front wheels. Really close to the tires.

PICS! Break In Oil Analysis. What is Normal? HELP!
v80z replied to v80z's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Thanks Grump I am a big fan of yours. All the info helps. Most applicable. Of course I bought the moroso sbc lv pump with the pickup already attached and set for 8.5 pan depth before I read you notes. I do use clay as I have had some instruction when checking piston to valve clearances. One thing that helped immensley was using a one piece pan gasket. No sealer and steel inserts around the screw holes. -

deja Stupid move on my part. I am really a noob on building motors. This is my first SBC and it was the 2nd assembly. I had built my racing l28 2 times but was a real amateur at that as well. I went from a stocker oil pan to a 7 qt 8.5" deep pan and did not change the pickup. Took about 5 minutes of running to wipe the mains. -
Anyone ever compute their gas mileage? I know this will vary widely. Any input?

Will a R200 w/ turbo CV shafts handle a mild SBC and 4sp?

Luckily everyone on the street was at work. I did that mid morning when noone was home. I work nights. Also all 15 kids that live on our block were at school. I try to play nicely. -

Hey John Thanks. I guess the hybrid gallery moved around some. Not worried about the pics. Yeah I first have to clean the garage after the latest thrashing then I will bring it back in and get those valves done. They are locked down. Just a little loose. gotta get it warmed thoroughly then adjust them. I am sure I am like most people where the car is way down on the list of things I have to do. It is my hobby so it only occupies my spare time hence the long turn around times. My cam cad says Valve Adjustment HOT .030 Intake and Exhaust. So I am not that far off. -

Well I am back together after the new oil pan/ old oil pump pickup catastrophe. Man I forgot how fun it was. I was having some clutch issues. This build included a new pressure plate. God I love SBC. new stock pressure plate $32.00 at Advance. Shifts so much better. Gotta get the valves adjusted got set out at .040" right now. Still the thing kicks. Only had about 2 drives totalling 30 mins or so and got 3 thumbs up from peopleon the road. I will post some new video soon. I hope to make Mike Kelly's Aug 12th event. Trying to figure gas mileage right now as I have no gas gauge. Guess I will carry an emergency jug. It rides very rough. The engine only runs right at WOT as it has a circle track cam. Looks like a 2 hour drive with no fuel gauge and no speedometer. HMMMMMM. Guess I need an MPH calculator. I did was and wax it today but even in the evening the wax was so warm it would not setup well. Guess I will knock it down again tomorow. Only those who have understand how you can catch normal street cars with just a burp of the throttle. It reminds me of the line in the movie JARHEAD. Yea thow I walk through the valey of the shadow of death I fear no evil for I am the baddest MF in the valley. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Well maybe that is not exactly correct but it sure feels that way. Well look for some vids in the coming weeks. Joe -

You guys are awesome. Never thought of studding the engine and slipping the tranny on. I am using some long bolts now but the stud idea is great. Now why didn't I think of that. Enzyte Steppin Large and Laughin Easy. Bob will be proud and his wife will be pleased.

So I have successfully put together engines and transmission before but today I spent 2 hours sweating in my garage trying to mate my 4 speed to my sbc 350. Used a clutch alignment tool. The engine is hanging from the hoist and the tranny is on a jack. but for some confounded reason I havent been able to get them together yet. Anybody got any good tricks for this evolution? Thanks. Sorry about the title. Wanted to draw some attention.

Make sure you use a priming tool to prime the oiling system. Run that till you get oil out of the top of the rockers. run your fuel pump to pressurize the fuel system and check for leaks. cleanup and fix check that all wires and such are not touching headers. speaking from experience hahahahaha If you dont get oil pressure at least 20-30 psi at idol shut it down Also I cracked a starter and my bell housing once when I had the dizzy in wrong ugh good thing it was a $30.00 one from advance auto that I returned. Definately have a fire extinguisher. I have moved mine out of the garage for first starts just incase. dont want to BURN DOWN THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!. She wouldn't like that much. I have first started my twice and both times I have had huge oil leaks from something I forgot to tighten up. Once was when I trusted the aftermaket factory to have the drainplug on tight. Another source of oil leakage for me was valve covers and the front seal for some reason. Took me a few tries to get the dizzy in the right position. OK TDC on compression oil pump shaft pointing at #5 cylinder lets try it nope that is not it. But I am fairly new to SBC. Others may get it on the first try. Oh yeah. Make sure you have a sure fire way to turn it off. Man first starts for me are nerve racking since I do my own engine assembly. Have fun shoot a video
