  1. OK man will do mm oil n carb cleaner 20/50 oil 1 step hotter got it thanks
  2. Hey ledphoot Thanks for the reply When I looked under the valve cover I did notice that the rear of the head had 3 oil drains. The front had only one and the oil was pooled up in the front but in the back I could see the top of the head. I ran my finger around the front looking for another drain but there was none. The front drain seems to have a boss so that it is designed to hold more oil up front. the rear drains were flush with the top of the head. Dont know if that is by design or if there is an issue there. Also side note. cam oiling is accomplished by a valley in the head under the cam created by 2 ribs that run parallel to the cam cast into the top of the cam. The cam turns in a pool of oil. I thought that was neat. Still not sure if it is by design though. How does the compression pressure sound OK? Do you know any good ucan or geo racing sites? Joe
  3. Well I got the 3.364 rear end at the house. I bought it from Danny's Datsuns in Oregon, I know I know. Well I cracked the case to check it out and it turns out to be the 3.54. I called him and he " Oh yeah the 3.54 is what they call a 3.364". I said yeah whatever. I will keep it. But I could have got one of those locally for alot less. Anyway the internals looks good. I will clean it up and swap it out for the welded 3.90. Should have a little more highway manners. And can always swap back if needed.
  4. Round here, as in other places, we got a nascar race series at the local track called ucan. It is comprised of stripped down geo metro and such. Low buck circle track. Anyway Young kid called me up said he was having engine problems. Geo Metro 1.3 liter? Smokin oil and no power after 11 1/3 mile laps. He suspected rings. I went over and did a compression check and all cylinders pumped to 162 162 168 164. Is this good? It sounded good to me. If so what could be the cause of the oil smoke? Valve seals? He said he had to run the oil level at the bottom end in order no to make so much smoke that he got black flagged. After he put the plugs back in we ran it a while and then looked at the plugs. Not wet black but just rich black. Carbonized? So I am at a loss right now. Could the compression rings be good and the oil rings be letting ouil up? that doesnt sound right but asking anyway.
  5. Ah Dude I am sorry for your loss. On to bigger and better.
  6. Welcome Welcome South Africa Keep us informed as to your goins on. Kewl Conversion. Hows she run? Video?!!!
  7. HO HO HO MERRY CHRISTMAS. Thanks Dan!!!
  8. Dude that kit looks awesome. Definately some old school stuff. Ole Turbo Tom really showed them how. I am sure there would be alot of members who would appreciate you dissassembling and catalogging all the parts in the kit. Maybe even dimensions /specs/jet sizes etc detailing the whole setup. Looks like a very kewl project. Good Luck!!!
  9. Looking Great Mike. Good job!!!
  10. Ok after blowing air into #1 cylinder it looks like it is just the exhaust manifold gasket. Thanks for all the help.
  11. This is a fairly fresh assembly and I did chase the threads and sealed the stud threads. I also went to a head stud kit and am using fel pro gaskets. Another interesting observation was that I saw vapor bubles, albeit very small and slow, coming up from between the nut of the head stud and the stud it self. Bubbling the oil. Smalll and slow one bubble every 5-6 seconds. Not sure if it is compression air or water. It does not appear to be steam/water. I did a cursory torque check of #1 in the pattern and it moved somewhat on 65 lbs. So I will loosen slightly and the retorque all in steps. If it doesnt work I will replace and check the head deck for flatness.
  12. I did not retorque the heads after 1 hour of running. In fact I have about 5 hours run time on the motor since replacing the heads. I was chasing what I thought was a header leak but found a compression leak on #1 cylinder out of the front between the head and the block. Is the gasket blown? Do you think retorquing is worth a try? Flame ON !!! I deserve it .
  13. I guess it is headed east. I got the ac ON CAUSE IT IS 70+ OUTSIDE AND SUNNY
  14. I will post my source for the 3.364 once I get mine and make sure it is good. I would not want to recommend something or somebody prematurely. I will post my opinion after I get it installed and running. I am not setting up this car for out of the hole. There were 2 options to get the desired top end speed I was looking for for closed circuit events. Change from the 1:1 4 speed 4 th gear ratio to an OD unit or swap the 3.9 for a 3.364 both got me to 145 - 155 mph top end with the tire diameter I have. So I went the low dollar route as usual. I was glad to see this post. Mike321go Is yours a strictly street application with a lean towards dragging?
  15. Excellent. I have one with a fedex tracking number due to be deliverred any day. Did you leave it open?
  16. Well Like I said I gotta get the fuel right. there should be another 50 hp in there at least. the edelbrock just aint flowin right. I have a holley 4160 coming so I will make another pull when I get that right. Anybody got sealevel jetting numbers for a 4160 to run to 6500 rpm on a 355 sbc?
  17. Well Here is the report card. The car held up well. No issues. Power is still falling off tremendously above 4000 rpm. Hopefully the Holley will fix that. RWTQ: 331 ft/lbs RWHP: 282 hp Video: http://68.10.5.69:9854/videos/v80z/1st_0001.wmv
  18. Well Here is the report card. The car held up well. No issues. Power is still falling off tremendously above 4000 rpm. Hopefully the Holley will fix that. RWTQ: 331 ft/lbs RWHP: 282
  19. Thanks for all the info guys. I am trying to digest it all. One suggests the 275/300 should be ok for the street as long as the struts are "OK" ? Define OK. the original owner, clarkspeed' said they were carreras valved 300/100. Not sure what that means. Need help and direction. I want to get a semi street setup for around town and a keep this setup for track without spending a ton of money. thankss
  20. Thanks Katman et al. How does one go about checking bump and rebound travel. Mark the strut with it on the ground and then mark it at the extremes of the travel up and down?
  21. Dan4011 In a previous life my girl had a jealous boyfriend who broke my windshield. I went to the court house small claims and for $25 I got a summons for him to come to court so that we could talk about it in front of the judge. When he got the summons he asked a friend of his to call me and offer to replace the windshield as he was onsome sort of probation at the time and did not need anymore trouble. So after it was replaced I went back to the clerk and dismissed the case. I was a good experience.
  22. I still consider myself a noob at most of this hotrodding stuff. I am sure many of you have experienced this. Up to the time I put the world product heads on and got a decent tune going the car needed a little dump of the clutch to get the back tires to spin. 255/50 16 welded 3.9 diff Muncie 4spd. I have been doing some driving since the new heads and tune, working out the bugs and also some suspension stuff. I have felt a difference in the power. Yep still waiting on my Holley. Tonight on the way in to work after the oil had warm I stuck my foot in it with the clutch fully engaged in 2nd gear at about 30 mph. She started to accel and then as the cam got in the sweet spot she broke traction in a straight line!!. Oh JOY What RAPTURE. I heard the angels singing. I have been driving the car about a year now but this is my real first taste of what Hybrid Z is all about. Mind you I am over 2 years on this project. So I got an appointment with the dyno This Monday at 1:00 pm. Thanks
