  1. Here is another short video where the Z turns 6.35 seconds at 116 mph in the 1/8th mile at Irwindale Raceway. My 60 ft time is 1.55 seconds and you can hear the rear tires squealing for mercy for that distance. I wonder what my time would have been if the Z had hooked at launch. My reaction time was slower because I allowed the turbos to spool up a little more before take-off. This is through a full exhaust system with mufflers. I liked the burn-out too. 2. If you are going to race it with that much HP, you need a full roll cage. Just pad it real well for the street when you aren't wearing a helmet. My 9" Ford rear with 4 link suspension barely fits into the Z. I dont know how you could fit any ladderbar suspension more than 2 ft long and still be functional. I run pump gas on the street but generally behave myself. I use race gas at the strip so that I don't have to worry about detonation. Last thursday , I just got my best 60 ft time, ever. It was 1.45 seconds. My 1/8th mile time was not that good because I was braking before the finish line( I didn't want to get kicked out for going too fast without a comp license ). My Tires are DOT legal street slicks ( Hoosier Qt Pro's 28 x15 LT-12" wide). Without me in it the Z weighs 2710 lbs. If you have enough HP you can afford to drive a heavier car. Hanns
  3. Tim, Ok, you posted the turbo pics. So now it's official and for the world to know. So how much boost will they generate to make 1k hp? Are you still planning the 9" rear install or something else? Maybe we can soon have a "Turbo V8" section for everyone who is working toward that goal!! Or maybe a "Forced InductionV8" section so we can include COZY COLE. Hanns
  4. My turbos came from a draw-through system a friend gave me. He had the set-up on his 350 Vega. But, it required a hole to be cut in the hood and I didn't want to do this. So I went to a blow through system. According to "Corky Bell's book, Maximum Boost-page 110, he stated," The draw-through system is a dead fish". Hanns
  5. Thanks for the comments. Keep us posted regarding your progress with your LT1. Hanns
  6. This was one of my slower 1/8th mile runs because the Z was so squirrely at launch and I was late shifting into 2nd gear. But it still ran a decent 6.50 seconds and 110 mph. Most of my runs are in the 6.30's and 6.40's. The time you see in the video is the reaction time. That is always posted first at Irwindale. It was under .500 because I redlit. The engine was pulling so hard against the transbrake that I didn't want to wait any longer to launch. Hanns
  7. I actually made a DVD from a collection of videos I have. But most are from inside the cockpit looking out as I'm racing. It gets pretty boring to constantly have the same view. The videos are also a little older and my launch has improved since I 've been working with the rear suspension. Time for more boost. My primary purpose for shooting this video was to inform me of the water temp, oil pressure, fuel pressure, and boost while racing. For some reason I was too busy steering to look at the gauges in real time. There are very few videos like the other one I posted for lack of having someone tape the race. A friend of mine said he would be willing to tape more race shots this year. Thus, if I can get a more diverse collection of video shots, I could make a more entertaining DVD for anyone interested. Maybe include some show video and other fast Z's at the track. TIM 240Z What was your right hand doing at the ignition switch area before the launch? transbrake switch? Looks like fun......maybe soon we can square up? Yes, it's my transbrake button. I think I'm going to have to up my boost 'just a little'. Hanns
  8. Congratulations for getting into the 11's. But did you notice that the quicker the Z runs the faster you want to go!!! When you reach that point, throw on a turbo or two.:D Hanns
  9. I love the smell of burning tire rubber, morning, noon and nighttime too. I'm planning a trip to Sacramento Raceway sometime this year. I'll run low 10's all day on the brakes and then a 9 for the last run so that they can kick me out again. Hanns
  10. This one is an inside view of what it looks and sounds like during a 1/8th mile run at Irwindale. It is also one of the first times that tire smoke entered the passenger compartment during the burnout. I title this, "Stayin' in it":flamedevi Had to show her who was 'da man', so lifting was not an option. http://album.hybridz.org/data/500/9455Drag_Race-Inside.wmv Hanns
  11. 1/8th mile drag-race with burnout and squirrely launch as seen from within the passenger compartment
  12. I have one pic of the rear in my photo gallery. I can post more or e-mail them to you if you want a specific view of a component. Hanns
  13. 73 TURBO 240Z, I'm using a TH 400 transmission and Ford 9" rear with a 4-link & coil-over suspension. CHUCKY, It's a 383 Chevy engine, 8 to 1 compression pistons, mild solid roller cam, Edelbrock Vic jr heads, Vic jr intake manifold, unsophisticated exhaust manifold for the turbos, home made airbox for the 750 DP Holley carburetor. 305240, Keep the 5.0 engine. Just add turbo or supercharger and you'll give me a run for the money. QWIK240Z, My best 60 ft time is only 1.5 seconds but I'm hoping to improve that to the 1.3's like my hero, Scottie GNZ. SKRICH, Before I did much tuning I only got 10 psi of boost from the engine and there was much lag. My best then was 10.29 at 137 mph in the quarter. Currently I'm running 1/8 th mile tracks because my quarter mile times ( calculated to be in the 9's ) would get me kicked out for not having a competition license, etc. I do mount a camcorder in the Z and will post some video if there is enough disk space in my photo gallery. Thank you for your comments, everyone. Hanns
  14. Thanks for the comments, everyone. I think I fixed the link so you should be able to see the video without first going to the photo gallery. Hanns
  15. I posted a very short video of one of my 1/8 th mile drag races at Irwindale Raceway. My Z is not very loud so you will have to turn up the volume to hear the engine. Since my photo gallery has limited disk space I will have to eventually delete this video if I want to post any new ones. Hanns. http://album.hybridz.org/data/509/9455Irwindale-1.wmv

    That's nice!!!!!
  17. Ouch...Ouch...Ouch. Hope you heal fast because I want to see that turbo up-and-running. Yes, I've spilled my share of Blood, Sweat, and Tears on various Automotive Misadventures in the past and hope to continue to do so for a while longer. These kind of painful experiences make us members in an automotive brotherhood, far above those whose only labor, involving their dream car project, entails the signing of credit card slips. Hanns
  18. Before I installed the turbos I used the JTR mounts with the 1/2" crossmember spacers. My 383 had the Victor Jr manifold and 750 DP. I used an inexpensive chrome, flat baseplate, 3" x 14 " aircleaner. There was apprx 1/2 to 3/4" clearance between the cleaner and the hood. Hope this helps. Hanns
  19. "Speed-O-Motive" in So.Cal. sells a 396 SBC Racing Assembly. 350, .030, 3.875 Stroker crank. BTW when will your turbo SBC be running? Any progress pics? Hanns

How did you fit the supercharger without modifying the driver's side inner fenderwell?? Great looking set-up.
  21. TT383 Chevy blowing through carb, no intercooler,TH400 trans, 9" Ford rear, Full exhaust system with mufflers, street slicks...... "street legal"(emission exempt). Quarter Mile ....10 psi.......10.29/137 mph. 1/8 th Mile ......15 psi........6.33/116 mph......no traction first 60 ft. Getting kicked out for not having competition license & certified rollcage........ "Priceless"
