  1. If your regulator is working properly and you truly only have 6 psi to the carb the type of fuel pump is irrelevant. Is a gauge measuring the fuel pressure? Is the carb jetting correct? Is the power valve working and of the correct designation for your engine( does it open too soon or too late)? Is the float level correct? Is there a vacuum leak? Good Luck Hanns
  2. That converter will cover any thoughts of lazy airflow. That cam duration is much more than mine so the additional airflow from the ported heads should really help on the top end. This may be a good thing because you won't be able to hook up with that much torque at launch, anyway. Hanns
  3. Paxton, many years ago, used the Carter AFB in an enclosed box for centrifugal supercharger applications. This worked well but was limited to 6-8 psi boost(I think). The Edelbrock carb is like the Carter and only has 1 fuel inlet for both primaries and secondaries. This limits fuel flow as compared to a Holley dual inlet carb. If you kept the boost low, jetted up, used solid floats and enclosed the carb in a box like my Z, it would work. Hanns
  4. Owen, I like Rialto even better than Fontana. They had more fans than Fontana and there was a 73 Z there, also. The Z had no engine so I bought the crossmember as a spare, but I doubt the Z is still there. Bart, What time are you going on Saturday? Hanns
  5. Bart, Did you test the fan with the stock wire terminal attached? I did that and my fan didn't work. Then I cut off the terminals and using the bare wire-ends, contacted the battery. "Voila", the fan worked. I got the best fan by checking out the Junkyard "Tauri" and selecting the nicest looking shroud and noting the odometer mileage of the donor car. Also checked that there was no excessive fan motor sloppiness or off-center rotation. The "Taurus Fan Meister" is willing to go to the junkyard with the "Taurus Fan Rookie" to show him the proper method of selecting the "Primo" example of Tauri fans. Let me know when you are going because I might get another one for myself since I only have 3 good ones ,now:roll: . Hanns

  7. Bart, The everyday price is $20. Go to the ecology center in Rialto or Fontana. The last time I was there they had a pile of fans in a bin and I just grabbed a 2-speeder and walked out after paying $19 something for it. I also bought another one later, as a spare, that I removed from a 91 Taurus. There were several other cars with the same fans also. Just make sure the fan is from a 3.8 liter, has 3 wires, a ground, a larger and a smaller gauge wire. Hanns
  8. John, I agree with you on the X brace for road race and rally purposes. My initial design was with an X but then I reminded myself that this car will probably only be raced at a dragstrip and continue to see street duty. Also, since my Z has a tubular rear frame to which the cage attaches it should be very rigid. This frame is also attached to tubes, welded to the body (visible in the pic) that extend to the firewall. I'm also changing the location of my fuel cell. I fabricated a couple of beefy angle iron lengths and had them welded between the rear subframe. Now the fuel cell will be supported and protected by the frame from any rear impacts. I'm amazed at how relatively light the chromoly cage tubes are compared to my old mild steel cage. And because the new cage uses smaller diameter tubing I should have extra room inside.   9. There is progress in the construction of my new Chromoly Roll Cage. The rear portion is done. Now the front downbars must be constructed and then two bars will also penetrate the firewall and attach to re-enforced front strut towers. There will be side swing-out bars since they are legal down to 8.50 seconds in the quarter mile. Not that I will ever go that fast. :nono: Hanns

  11. Are you sure you don't have an oil pressure port at the front of the engine, just above the timing cover? My block has oil supply there and I used a "T" and 1/8th pipe nipple for my turbos. There was so much pressure I had to use carburetor jets to reduce oil flow. When will you have the Z running? Hanns
  12. Good to hear from you again, Larry. Great job on the upgrades, everything looks very nice. I'm really interested in what your track times will be because then I'll know if I should start worrying about some stiff competition. I'm still waiting to get my cage done so the Z is still out of commission but I've scheduled my physical exam for the competition license I'll need. One step at a time. It will get done. Hanns

  14. Those are very fast times, congratulations. When you decide to get a cage make sure it is certifiable to nine seconds because you are almost there. Believe me it gets old braking before the finish line so that you won't get kicked out. And the tech staff will remember you and prevent you from racing if you are not in compliance with safety rules. Good luck. Hanns
  15. Congratulations on those great times. When you get your cage make sure it's certifiable into the nine seconds time because you will want to be there eventually. It's fun at first getting kicked out at the strip for being too quick. But its boring to constantly get on the brakes to keep from being too quick. And they will remember you after a while. I have been officially banned from the strip until I have a comp license and new cage. I'm working on it. Hanns
  16. It'll be 4/5 weeks before the cage is done but I will post pics. JBK240z I've seen those intercoolers and I thought about how they could be applied to my engine but I'm not quite ready to reconfigure everything right now, maybe down the road a bit..... Thanks, Hanns
  17. I bought the Z with the cage installed never knowing the actual thickness until I tried to get it certified. Also didn't know NHRA does not permit smoothing out welds on cages to be certified. The new cage will be 1 5/8th chrome moly but just a plain 10 point cage. However, I won't make any changes that will not allow me to drive the Z on the street. Hanns
  18. I'm always interested in improvements. However, the overall balanced look of the engine compartment must be maintained. Hoses and tubes must be kept to a minimum. No cutting into fenderwells or hood alterations. Hanns
  19. It is 1.75 diameter Mild Steel but less than .135 thick and some of the welds have been ground down for a smoother look (not allowed). I know what you mean about plastic but at my age if I don't do it now it will soon be too late. Hope your sale goes as planned. Hanns Violacleff, check your PM.
