Anyone want my 10 second roll cage? "Some Assembly Required". I had to cut it to remove it from the Z but with some fabrication and welding could be reused. It is NHRA legal for 10 seconds flat but not for 9 seconds. It is .095 or more mild steel but some welds have been ground down. It was custom built to fit my Z which has been back-halved. Anyone interested needs to pick it up from my house....no shipping. I would prefer to give it to someone who has a fast Z and needs to cage it for dragracing. Hopefully only one person will want it so I can give it for free but if there are others.....it's an auction. Hanns

We Did It Again - Z-car 1/4 Mile Drag Time
Turbo Meister replied to jnjdragracing's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Those are amazing drag strip et's and mph's for an independent rear suspension. I'm surprised that the track officials allow you to run that quick with that suspension. Is that a NHRA sanctioned strip? Hanns -
Owen, The shroud looks different than the one I have but there are 3 wires so it must be a 2 speed. BTW, what's that turbo doing in the background of the pic? Hopefully it will be installed in your new project, whatever that may be. Hanns

Picture of the Banks twin turbo setup
Turbo Meister replied to dr_hunt's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Yes, it looks great. It appears you are making great progress. I'm curious as to the size of the turbos since they look like my Rajays. The tags on the compressor side should identify them. Keep up the good work. Hanns -

Go to the Photo Album section and click on Videos. There are some boring drag racing videos. Hanns -
"The sincerest form of flattery"! In another thread of yours I mentioned that I have Rajays. Hanns

That's what mine are (375 E 80). They should have a tag on the compressor side listing the flow, serial #s, and name. Mine are now 15 years old but had been sitting around for 12. They are very basic but work well when properly sized. I knew mine wouldn't fit unless the manifolds place them in front of the engine. Hanns

Taurus Fan on V8 Chevy Z
Turbo Meister replied to Turbo Meister's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
If used as a puller, air has unrestricted access to front of radiator and fan channels it through shroud. If used as a pusher, the shroud initially blocks the incoming air to much of the front surface of the radiator. I'm not an engineer but I experimented using pusher and puller set-ups. The puller seemed to cool better. Hanns -
Now you tell me! Hanns

Nice to see another TurboV8 on HybridZ. How is that Draw-Through system working for you? Is the carb dialed in? As you can see on my Z I'm not much on hoodscoops but that little chrome scoop of yours looks pretty good poking out from under your hood. Hope to hear from you when you run it at the drag strip. Make sure you place a metal cover over the fuel cell so that you will pass NHRA tech inspection. Good Luck, Hanns

Taurus Fan Problem - Auto Elec Experts Step In
Turbo Meister replied to Scottie-GNZ's topic in Ignition and Electrical
Bart, When the alternator is running it's feeding 14 volts to the battery. I know you want to control your fan with the PCM but if all fails use two switches like me; one for hi, one for low. My voltage drops when running on high speed but my idle never varies and everything works real well. Hanns -

Be careful, I'm selling my A2000 on E-bay, right now. Aeromotive Tech people said it can be adjusted to a max of 22 PSI. I actually made a longer adjustment screw and was able to get 25 PSI ( pump was loud ). Still not enough pressure for my 17 PSI boost. I tested the free flowing volume and it was like a garden hose. Maybe I didn't install it properly or had insufficient electrical current. But I used it just a few times and then replaced it with an FI pump (pressure problem solved). 7.5 psi + 20 psi boost + 3 psi friction in fuel lines + 2 psi fighting gravity and moving forward to carb = 32.5 psi total and no margin for error. If you already have it try it, if not enough pressure get a Kenne Bell Boost-a Pump. Good Luck, Hanns -

* Nitrophyl Floats * Bigger Needle & Seat inlets (Steel) * Huge jets for alcohol * Since the front end will come up everytime you launch, Power Valve in secondaries is useless. And you need Jet Extensions on secondaries. * For alcohol you need to drill out main passageway in metering blocks (you probably already have that). * Smaller High speed Air Bleeds * Unobstructed vents for fuel bowls so that fuel can be pressurized at a 1:1 ratio. * I don't know how much fuel pressure is seen by the regulator with alcohol but the regulator also must be indexed for a 1:1 ratio rise with boost. Otherwise the boost will blow the fuel back into the tank under boost. * Really big alcohol pump. Must have high pressure and high volume. Points will be deducted for cutting into inner fenderwells for turbo clearance. But I forgive you!!! Hanns -

The answers to your questions depend on the RPM your turbos are designed to spool up. My converter stalls between 3500 and 3800 rpm. My turbos are fully spooled up at 4500 RPM. But I don't want a higher stall converter because I still drive the Z on the street. You don't have that limitation, so you can go higher. I still lose traction at launch with this set-up. If your turbos spool early then you better have a tight converter. In that case there will be less top end slip and you can use a 4.11 ratio. I have that with a 29" tall tire and go through the 1/4 mile lights at 6500 RPM or higher. My cam is in the same RPM range as yours. and as Scottie said your transbrake will hold the power. I ran at Fontana drags last week and ran 10.20's at 115 mph after braking at the 1200 foot mark, so I wouldn't get kicked out again. But if they spool up at a higher RPM and you have a tight converter, you might bog at launch due to the turbo lag. But then how could anyone bog with a 13:1 compression engine on alcohol? Lets face it you are building an "animal" and you better first attach wheely bars and a parachute before you take it on its first run. I'm waiting for pics. Hanns -
Now you have me laughing!! New Mexico sounds like a much more car-friendly state than California. Hope you get some time to put this project on the road. I can't wait, so we need project pics. Hanns

OK, I give up. I'm actually looking forward to your buildup. If nothing else just to see how you fit the turbos in. BTW, if this is a competition I have to explain the rules to you. * No Alcohol, * Homemade Exhaust Manifolds only, * No commercially prepared Carb, * Low compression ratio, * Mild cam, * No cutting of inner fenderwells or hoodscoop, * Full exhaust system with mufflers, * D.O.T. legal tires, * Registration and Insurance. So there, Hanns

Taurus Fan on V8 Chevy Z
Turbo Meister replied to Turbo Meister's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I'm using a 6 gauge wire and the connections are tight. I didn't have a problem after I installed the 60 amp Maxi Fuse between my power distribution point and the 2 30 amp relays. Previously, the same set-up except for the 30 amp fuse in the identical location, caused that fuse to blow. But only when I started the engine(probably from a power spike). I've raced the Z and driven it on the street since the installation and the fan works great. It's been 95+ degrees here every day and the water temp stays at or below 180 degrees. Hanns -

No I have Rajays, but I think the T04B is a Garrett or Turbonetics designation. I believe Tim240z has 2 T04B's for his project. Roto-Master was probably bought out by the larger company like Garrett just like Rajay is now fully owned by Turbonetics. Older engines with "Free Wheeling" Turbos dont have wastegates because the engine displacement limits the boost they make. My turbo exhaust housings are on the large side and I'm not using wastegates because my engine can only produce a maximum of 17 psi boost. It looks like the pipe transitions to a larger diameter opening and the endpiece allows a hose equal to the larger opening to be used. Hope this helps, Hanns

Taurus Fan on V8 Chevy Z
Turbo Meister replied to Turbo Meister's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
The only difference between your wiring set-up and mine is that I have the 60 amp fuse between the battery and relay power-in wire. I did not want to share any voltage with the wiring harness thus my direct contact with the battery. I heard that the more electrical accessories are powered separate from the harness by the battery, the more efficient they are and the harness becomes more efficient for the remaining items connected to it. I'm wondering if Tim240z has the right idea or if he is getting less amperage to his fan and it can handle the smaller fuse. But then he is not having problems. Hanns -
TT383 Chevy Z gets a "little" air
Turbo Meister replied to Turbo Meister's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I did not see him run and only spoke to him between runs. He said he was new to drag racing and was taking it easy on the Z. But he said he was improving all the time. I believe his 2nd run was 8.8 seconds in the 1/8th mile but he did not tell me what the MPH was. I told him about Hybridz and he stated he would visit the site and post pics. You will be able to contact him then. Hanns -

On Thursday I raced the Z at Irwindale Raceway since I had the Air Box repaired. I received my best, so far, 60 ft time of 1.39 seconds. I know that there are several members on this site that accomplish even quicker times but this was through a full exhaust system. Also running his 240 Z was Fred who ran well in the 8 seconds time in the 1/8th mile with his 350 Z V6 engine. He showed and won awards at MSA with it. He has the engine, trans, rear end. dash, etc. from a 350z. Also much body work. I liked the car and can respect the extreme amount of work that went into creating it. Hanns
