My 81 turbo swap has not been running so good. ive cleaned everything changed sensorsand all that stuff. today i was messing with the afm when it was idle. when i pulled the flap closed a little it would start to run smoother and when i let go it would run choppy again. Befor i adjust the AFM id like some more input on this. thanks
  2. i made my own flange out ofsome thick steal i had kickin around and bought a 2 1/2"hole saw. it prob took me like and hour to drill out the hole. Then i bought 2 1/2"-3" pipe and 3" madrel U prob costed me like $45 candien. i welded it up myself.. that pipe looks nice. is it 3"?

  4. oh yeah, does it matter if you mix up the 2 front water temp sensor plugs? Ive switched them and i dont think its changed anything.... anythoughts on that?
  5. ive capped the EGR and it still does it. did your Z run fine on warm up then start acting up. It still runs but it stumbles instead of reving smoothly. I just changed the Head Temp sensor and conector but still the same... I know once i get it ill belike dam thats so stupid but intill that time grrrr haha thanks again guys
  6. ok i got the AFM mounted the right way. It solved the rich problem. But it still runs bad. It no long blows black. it will run ok when itsfirst started up but once its warmed up it runs like crap again. I know its prob one of the sensorshead temp or front water temp. i cleaned the conections and put dieletric grease on them. So its prob a sensor itself, but if anyone has any other tricks id love to hear them. Thanks guys: Matt
  7. Thumper: ive checked and cleaned the sensors and grounds to make sure its not that, but you never know with these old birds. TheNeedForZ: thanks for all that ill let you know if that works, the afm seemed to fit better with what i had upside down. It was a temp install till i make my 3"madrel cold air intake with my AFM infront of the rad. Ill flip it and try it again god i hope thats it. Hey TheNeedForZ are you going to the datsun/nissan autoX in sept its the most fun i have ever had in my Z. As for what u might win i got a few parts kickin around, ill let ya know.
  8. Now igot you here please read on, you will win something if you know this, just not sure what yet Ok here it goes, did my turbo swap into my 78z its a 81 turbo engine. Now i hooked everything up the only thingis that the AFM is upside down. Im not sure if this matters but i got to put it out there. The problem is it will not run rite everything "seems" to work some of the time but most of the time it runs really rich and shoots black smoke out the tail pipe. when i check the NEW sparkplugs today they had gas on them and lots of carbon build up. I thought it was the AFM conections but now im thinking it might be how the coil is hooked up and it doesnt have enuf spark if anyone has had the same problem id love to know how to fix it since its the last thing i have to do befor i can drive this badboy Thanks: Matt
  9. the car i got it from had a blown turbo, replaced that. then the head gasket was blown when i started it. replaced that but didnt start it till i got it all wired up in my 78z. the ccar seemed to run fine but when i let it idle for a min it started to run rich and foul the plugs. I changed the plugs and made sure the grounds were good but it still did the same thing. i still have to go over all the connections but maybe just maybe its because the AFM is upside downwould that make it harder for the flap to open or something (i dont think so)

  11. just got my turbo swap running today, thanks to bumble zee. the wiring made getting my swap running a snap. i should get some pics of my progress but i get 2excited and motor threw a bunch of work. when i finish my 3in exaust and paint it all one color ill post some pics. thanks again. open 3in down pipe is a little loud hehe :Matt
  12. got the trannie back in, what a pain. The starter works great now. It seems like nothing else works now, havent trouble shooted much just tried cranking it. Hope i can get it running this week i wanna drive it sooo bad.
  13. well it would have went back in really easy if i put it back in.... ill be sure to put one in so i dont mess anything up, dont wanna try and do a kool turbo burnout and have everything break. thanks guys
  14. pilot bushing? i asume that centers the flywheel? or does it center the clutch disk? well anyways i could bolt the flywheel on fine with the spacer, the ceter hole on the flywheel fit over the the spacer fine... i just hope everything works fine when i go to start it up, cant wait to hear my turbo for the first time with my 3" downpipe im sure it will shoot some flames till i get some more pipe on it
  15. found it, had to take the trannie out, just what i didnt want to do. well for the next person that does this remember there is a spacer for the automatic trannie'e flywheel. remember to take it off befor you put your manual trans flywheel on.... haha thanks
  16. i just got all my wire's all hooked up and i went to turn the car over and the start just spins, it does pop out because i checked it unmounted. everything work it just seems to be off somehow. i have a 81turbo motor that was auto, with my 78 5 spd and flywheel. ive used boath starts from the turbo and the 78 they look the same. is ther something i have to do to the n/a flywheel to make it sit closer to the starter? i bet ther is but i dont wanna take the ol trannie back out if i dont have to.......grrrr Matt
  17. you need a new mustach bar for sure, i welded up a R180 but when i went 2 put it in the bolt holes didnt line up. You prob need the half shafts from the R200 because the diff is a little wider i think the R180 shafts are longer.

    or this is what made me think about the 4x4 LSD http://www.purenissan.com/r200_front_lsd.htm it was in another post, but it says its a "factory unit" so it like a replacment for a factory LSD? Are the front Diffs from a 4x4 a direct bolt on if the have LSD? 4.11 arnt that bad for a drift car or autoX

    some nissan 4x4 have the r200 rite? and some have lsd? do these rear ends fit the same was as our Z rear ends? if so how come more people dont get them from the scrap yard? ive did a search and nothing came up, just wondering if anyone has done this?
  20. hey Fredrik280zx, do you use that lsd? thats a pretty good price for a new unit. I wonder if it would handle autoX and drifting? It says its the factory unit? could you get the "factory one out of a wreaked nissan 4x4? very interesting.

  23. ok i found allot of stuff on the 280zxT harness but the 280 side of things is still a mistory where do the red 2 blue and green wire hook 2?

  25. What wires go where? what do the 2 Blue,RED and Green power wires hook-up too?
