ok i took the tank off after the hoidays and she has a mighty loa of rusty. have 2 take it to a rad shop now and clean the bad boy out. tried claning it on my own but swishing around a small amout of gas and pouring it out dont seem to do allot to the overall cleaning of the tank. "Now if this dont fix it i dont know" haha how many times have i siad that. will need a new fuel filter also hehe

if you saw how cool it looks why would you say why flames? makes a badass car look even crazier

a couple year back i drifted the tires off with my open diff. my front end was 2 high and i would understear if i didnt drift and drive like a mad man made for good watching no doubt as i slid sideways threw almost every gate haha most fun ever. A LSD must be amazing my turbo spun both wheels the other day for a brake stand with the open diff

hey man thats kool. since i got the same bike maybe i can get a freebee jk.. how do you carry the back wheel? endo this is going to be my second year riding my bike and i want to progress a bit. ive popped it up at red lights and comming to a stop just trying to get the feel for itbut havent tried one at speed plus i still need to buy a better jacket and some pants and boots so that keeps me from giving her a real try. ive been down befor and i know how much it sucks ha i have the scars 2 prove it" dam yamaha R6" much props man that stuff is ballsy -
there is a strainer in the 78 280z? why would it drain no problem when i take the line off? it has allot of flow with just the pressure of the fuel in the tank. im thinking the damper is sucking shut somehow then letting go when i open up the system.... i tried turning the screw on the damper but it did nothing... when i pulled the bolt out of the damper ... nothing changed and i can screw it all the way in with no effort or rezistence from the inside
-
taking out the fuel line with 3/4 of a tank of gas it flows very good, i even put a aluminum wire down the lineto see if it was clogged... it didnt make it any better by doing that still flowed well out the fuel pick-up. Is there a filter on the inside of the tank on a 78? im going to need to drop the tank to get the other bumper shock off but i remember the filler boot was a bear to get off my 75 when i had to do that... does it not sound like the damper? im going to bypass it tommorow and go from there i wonder if i can get my hand in the tank? might have to hire some kid to stick his hand in there haha

that must be a really boss mini van i hooked up a spark plug on my old 280z and it shot 2 foot flames like a jet that was cool but i couldnt reproduce it for some reason maybe i can on the turbo bwhahaha evil flames

i was going into the night trying to figure out my fuel pressure drop off and as i had my last run of the night befor the fuel pressure dropped off i was jabbing the gas and the badboy spits out nice blue flames pop pop so hot haha i have a 3" exaust with a ultra flow muffler i tried taking video of it on my phone but the the pressure dropped haha anyone else do this any pics?
-
changed the main line.... same ol thing it runs well for about 5 min maybe less then pressure starts dropping. its like the pump is turned off but it isnt. the pump is still running but it sound like its pressurized. now when i take ANY fuel line off and releve the pressure and put the line back on and try the pump it makes pressure again for 5 or so min maybe less. is this the fuel damper closing? when i let the pressure off it opens? im going 2 bypass it tommorow and see if it runns longer than 3-5 min without loosing pressure. Is it safe to do this? what does the fuel damper do? this is the last thing i need 2 change so i figure it is it... the gas lines from the tank seem to be clear... the good thing is when i started the car for the last time tonite it shoots out the coolest blue flames when i stab the gas a bunch of times so that made me happy after not fixing it with the new fuel lines Matt

im going to go over the whole thing today and replace all the lines and clean or blow out the metal lines will post when im done later wish me luck
-
i just thought of something.... i think the line from the tank to the pump is sucking itself shut, i replaced it from the stock one but i dont think its fuel line... guess ill change all the hoses around the tank and pump tommorow. I think thats why it ran for a little while then pressure dropped, and when i took the fuel fillter off it released all the sucktion for a min then sucked itself soon after.... or at least thats what im hoping
-
ive hooked the pump right to the battery and i checked the fuel filter i can blow threw it no problem the filter is new
-
replaced the fuel pump today, ran better for a min then when i took it for a ride it died. wont build over 10 PSI pump is on but sounds funny. checked the fuel filter and blew threw it and it was fine. put it back on and it build pressure?? then died after a brake stand very odd the fuel damper is the last peice i can replace... what it the name of Thor and his might ax is going on?
-
now im getting frustrated. ive replaced my FPR fuel pump and put a gauge on my fuel rail. today i put my NEW pump in and it "seemed" to run better then when i decided to take it for a test drive the fuel pressure dies. the pump is still running but it sound like its not very strong. it wont build more than 10PSI on the rail. the fuel filter is not blocked i took it off and blew threw it. could something be clogged in the pump? or the FUEL DAMPER the reason for caps is that it is the last thing to replace on the fuel system besides the injectors........oh yeah when i tested the fuel filter the dam thing built pressure agian when i put it back together but then died again after a short brake stand grrr I HAVE NO IDEA please help Matt

i dont think thats it ive put 12v from the battery to the pump and it does the same thing. on my old Z i had to do this for the car to run, when the pump was going. when i got a new pump it ran great i hope this is the last thing if not hello AFM, maybe i should ground it 2 a good ground 2 with the 12v.... ill need a new pump some day so i guess ill get that off my list..
-
well i changed the pump and FPR today. the pump made the car run a little better the fpr didnt make it run any better since the old one was fine. The pump i put in was the doner turbo cars pump. it made the car somewhat drivable but still pops and stuff... So i guess a new pump is in order, the presre never goes up when i hit the gas it always goes down so i think there isnt enuf supply for the injectors. so ill order the pump tommorow and go from there. if that doesnt work its AFM time...
-
ok i got the feul presure gauge on today, very interesting stuff. with the vacume on the gauge reads about 30 PSI when i rev it up it goes down to 25-26. with it off it read what it should about 39 PSI when i rev it it doesnt change much about 3-5 PSI. I Have a FPR comming tommorow so i can see for sure if thats it. but from my understanding the FP should start @ 38-40 and go up as the vacume is lifted. so the 38 should be the lowest... intill tommorow i guess can the fuel pump play a role in this also? when it was cold and the vacume was on it dropped to like 20 could the surging or on and off nature be a bad fuel pump or fuel pump wirering i guess i can check that out after i chang the FPR
-
i did put the AFM back to stock after i moved it since i marked it and all. its more like a surge like good good good bad bad bad good good good... it runs good and bad for a littlelong than that maybe 5-10 sec on each. but it never runs that good when good, not as good as when the FPR is off then it runs like it should for a glorius min. its a nice day oout here on the west coast so ill tinker with her for a bitlet you know how it goes later
-
thats it bastaad some info i can chew on haha sorry for not telling you but i did try unpluging the O2 and TPS sepritly and together with no effect. interesting fuel facts thanks allot so i guess it could be the AFM.. i tried adjusting it a while back i think... like 5-10 teeth maybe i went the wrong way i think i tighten it up and that would make it more lean right... i think im going to pick up a fuel gauge today just so i have one and mess with the AFM more. the Z shop guy siad AFM when i told him what was up on the phone so maybe thats a good bet. ill let you guys know for sure thanks again Matt
-
sorry for not saying befor but i tried that with no effect, its almost like its surgingfew seconds on a few seconds off could it be my fuel pump as well? i still have the N/A one in there and it seems to be running fine i can hear it... i guess ill figure some more out when i get a fuel gauge on that bad boy
-
it seems to run great when i unplug the FPR and plug that vacume line, now if thats not some sort of sign i dont know what is. But it seems like everything else is working but id loveto hear someone with the same problem. im going to get a fuel presure gauge and see where im really at befor i replace anything I got the same bike but mine still has the Erion colors and i got an akropovic bolt on. its my first bike and its away for the winter. nice stunt pics ill be ther one day maybe.... i want to paint the bike flat black and make a new exaust for it.
-
i took it off and cleaned itwith no effect, i think it is a magnet pick-up if it was led the dirt that was on it would not alowed any spark control. i think my problem is the FPR when i take the vacume line off the FPR and plug the vacume it runs great for alittle while...anyone have a FPR go bad?
-
Now ive tried this befor but didnt look into it or ask anyone about it. i took the vacume off the FPR and the thing reved so smooth and fast i thought i had fixed it.... after a few good revs it would start to stumble and pop again its almost like it is surging with to much fuel and making the engine run ruff. plugging the Vacume back on the FPR keeps it runing like poo but taking it off again and pluging the vacume line "i did that everytime i took it off" She runs like a champ for a little while. not sure how she all works but i am going to replace the FPR but id like to know if im on the right track since i have had people say its the CAS,Bad wiring or the AFM but nobody has siad FPR i would figure if it was common i would have heard about it.... or not haha oh yeah my set up is a 81 L28 turbo stock with exuast and intake and it was an auto switched to 5 speed not sure if there is anything there 2 matter tho thanks guys Matt
-
so that is the 81 with the one mounted outside at the bottom of the engine? so i guess the engine paint could have messed up the "LED's" i shall take it off and clean it and do what i need to do hope its a new leed on good times
-
ill go over the whole harness again. but i did paint the CAS with engine paint so i should prob get that stuff off it. and clean the CAS wheel. not sure how the CAS work but maybe take it apart and clean it and seal it but like i siad i dont have a clue how it work i would assume magnet pick-ups.
