i had my bov on the stock J pipe all i did was put another stock J pipe on without a bov kinda put it back to stock seamed louder after i did that

yeah i can hear it at idle and everything else can hear it threw the exaust 2 that really cool haha so i guess an intercooler quiets it down a bit?

interesting i wonder if something is wrong or it just likes to be loud its the stock T3 hmm

i have that "step" too goes from 3inch intake to 2 1/2 to the turbo then 2 1/2 to 3 inch off the turbo. the turbo seam louder since i took the greddy style bov off now its a loud wooshing all the time. with the BOV a didnt even get the cool whistle i was looking for maybe i need a diff BOV thats what cheep a$$ ebay stuff does for you i guess

CHTS? whats that i just got the cam timing right didnt check the ignition timing yet but i tried changing that befor and there is no way with the CAS setup

mine is loud like i can almost not hear my exaust which is a 3inch with a dynomax straight threw design. Now the sound of mine is like a wooshing well you all know. is that normal? Matt

well got my car really close to driving. all that was wrong is there was not much low end power its a 81 turbo swap into a 78 i put a greddy style BoV from ebay on and i figured it was leaking air on the low endthen closeing when i built boost and it would make power. I changed to the stock J pipe with no bov thinking it would fix everything. Well it didnt haha. here we go the thing ran pig rich when i changed the pipe so i changed the AFM almost 1/3 of a turn. now it ran ok but when i turn it off the afm has trouble opening the flapper when i try and start it up again. i fiddled with that a bit and the tps got it about good enuf to drive i think but i know its not going to pass the smog test i guess i gotta check the timing again but i cant change that anyways so whats the point haha all i want is a smooth power delivery not sure what this post is for but if anyone has any tuning tips that might help im willing to take any haha im going to have it on the road this week since my ranger decided to blow all its oil out on my driveway god knows how it did it maybe a loose oil filter but i put that on months ago anyone have that? im going to climb under it tommorow grrr and i got robbed last week good times good times. a little Z drive would ease all of these pains

well going to work on the 280Z with the 81 turbo again after its maiden voyage it was a little disapointing but its getting better. ive taken off my EGR and vacume pumps from the stock system. I was just wondering what else i can take off that is not needed i want the engine as clean and uncomplicated. there seems to be way to many things on the plenum. I want to run the stock computer for now 2 since i dont have the budjet for anything else.

thats what i was thinking there is a green and blue from the harness andthey take up the 2nd 2 wires if you go from front 2 back. the front wire is bare....

ive had my TPS hooked up on my 78 Z i put a 81 turbo motor in and there was only 2 wires to hook up there is one more wire that does not hook up to anything. ive changed TPS plugs i think the turbo TPS only had 2 wires but it doesnt seem right where if anywhere can i hook up the 3rd wire ..... Matt

i guess when i hook my turbo up to the water it will up the temp a little also... how much more will it be?20 deg?

yeah ima skank the shroud off my stock Z rad and ill put antifreeze in when i get the water cooled hoses back on the turbo i just had a 2 day permit on it and trying to sort out some things befor it on the road full time got some oil fittings to redue and the dam injection to set up and that fine exaust smell that pulls in wow i get high haha

well its like this. i dont have a fan shroud because i changed my rad to the zx rad because the fan i had on it was 2 close and put a hole in it. so i put my Z fan on and it sits a little far back AND i only run water because im just trying to figure out my set up and dont want to puke a bunch of anti freeze all over the place, i have a new water pump and thermastat. ill try and find the shroud for it that should help allot .... and i dont evn have my water cooled turbo hooked up becasue i havent made the return line yet in the rad (the stock one had the return line)

mine runns like 150 -180 if im moving allot, if im in traffic its at like 200-210ish.. i know thats high and i need a electric fan to helf my stock fan out. ill prob take the one i got off the front of the turbo donor car

i have a 81 turbo motor that runs 35drg of timing and i cant change that.... can i put a N/A dizzy in it and still have everything work like the computer and stuff...

is the igniter gone? and any thoughts on how to change the timing.... can i just put a N/A dizzy in there??? so i can get normal timing...

I finished my car or so i thought. the cam timing was out and i changed that. it is much better now but it still doesnt run the way i think it should. Under 3000rpm it seems to have a hard time reving over 3000 is much smoother but still hard to rev and i dont dare go to 6000 i prob only go to 5000 cause i dont like the way its running. NOW i set one of the pick-ups on the chopper wheel to 0deg on the timing mark. and put the cam timing to the mark. i just thought is that "pick-up" on the chopper wheel TDC? or is it just off there? this is the thing that has been going over my mind has ive been drivnig around the last 2 days on a permit. ive messed with the TPS allot and tried to find the "sweet" spot i have a narrow band 02 sensor and a autometer AFR gauge. it was running way rich on the gauge so i started turning the AFM wheel. i had to turn it almost half a turn to get it in the stoich....its on the boarder of rich and stoich now.... timing with the timing light is like 35deg and i cant change that. no matter where i move the CAS on the chopper wheel. i just put a new coil and plugs in today but thats all i could think of. i might mess with the cam timing sunday or whenever im free again hope some of you guys have some good info for me im starting to run out of my own hehe or maybe thats all the fume's getting woozie haha please help me help my pour little Z beat my brothers RX8 Matt Zdone.rar

i "tried" changing my timing today. it didnt work no matter how dar i moce the CAS it didnt budge is there something wrong? the good news it im driving itwith a 2 day permit for thefirst time. the bad news is it doesnt rev well under 2500 rpm i think the TPS is off a bit still looking for the sweet spot would the 35deg of timing make it sluggish? it boosts to 9psi but its not like a roar ...Matt -

thanks 280zone i kinda figured that just wanted to back it up. i messed with everything to get it to run half ok with the cam timing out one tooth now im putting everything back -
does anyone know? mine is running at like around 35 adv i think its not right... any thoughts

well all is well everything seems to work. it was the cam timing that was out

ive messed with the AFM TPS water temp sensors and everything else that i could see.....but what i couldnt see was that when i did my head gasket the cam timing changed a tooth or 2 but its more like one. today i got it all set up right and wouldnt you know it the darn thing ran and reved the way it should. even did some burnouts in my garage to prove she had power and it wasnt a trick Id just like to thank all the hybriderz for your help on my turbo swap and from this day forward im starting with the basics TIMING haha i feel so dumb all this waisted time. Now all thats left is to pick up my gf from work in it cause she doent know i have it running good hehe one happy Z guy MAtt
