I bought my 82' 280zx 2+2 for a little over 1200$ I kinda rushed into it, and didnt even try to get the price down! What a mistake! I could've gotten it cheaper even if it was 100, thats a good enough difference i wish i would've made. Although, im just 17 and i bought the car with all the money i had just earned at 16, I was too excited to finally get it, that i didnt question it enough before i put the down payment on it. The car has some problems as of right now, but IMO from what i've seen and read, the car is in pretty good condition. I just wish i would've saved some money and used it to better restore my car. But its okay, i love doing all the work on it, and getting to know my car. I highly enjoy it, and plan to keep the car for life. Live and learn. I sure did. For the better.

No one knows where i should put this thread?
-
I was wondering guys, because i have a hard enough time finding things around in the Michigan area, i should create a thread somewhere saying, Michigan owners sign in! Problem is, im not exactly sure which place to put that thread into. Could i get some help to tell me where i should post this?

How much do those ZXR wings run for now days lol?

Well, the reason i feel i quite possibly need a rebuild is because an overall lack of power is present. Acceleration is poor at first, but in following gears its decently well. There seems to be a vacuum problem as well ATM, and im going to be doing a compression test within the next week. This in itself will let me know if the engine is in need of a rebuild, and not just because of poor power to be my reasoning. It could be just some vacuum line, and instead i wont need a build. I will find out soon. But in the meantime, i was just curious to what people thought if i just sea foamed to clean it up, before i were to rebuild it. Any more opinions on that?

Ive been wanting to sea foam my 82 280zx 2+2 for some time now, but dont plan to (dont even know if i should cause this question arose) until summertime just cause its freezing here in Michigan right now. But then i thought, possibly i might be rebuilding my engine this summer with all the free time i have off cause schools out, and i only work part time. (i am 17, bought my first car at 16 workin at Taco Bell, 82' 280zx) I've been prepping myself all winter, nearly everyday learning new things from hybridz and reading my haynes manual. In addition to that and more, ive bought the rebuild OHC book thats comin within a day or 2. Even found out there is a couple typos in there on pages 11, 110, and 111 from searching hybridz, way to go search bar!. So obviously i just keep learning. Anyways, to the point, would it be a good idea in all seriousness to go ahead and sea foam my Z and rebuild the engine afterwards? I mean, i seriously think it would just clean it out good, and provide me with less work in the long run by not having to clean the engine with as much elbow grease as i would have to otherwise. (it might even make me decide not to rebuild, idk though cause i want to get dirty with my Z, you just get that feeling you know? but in reality it may make me feel good about the car after sea foaming it, that i wont care to rebuild it until some later time because it may run pretty well) See, the car isn't in "need" of rebuilding necessarily, as far as i "think" i know, because it only has 100,000 miles, but then again it may cause the previous owner drove it into the ground. Anyways, if you see what i mean. (end rant) Sea foam before rebuild, what do you think?

I apologize everyone. The car just was not worth it to me for 400$. It had a little more body rust than i had hoped, and a little more work to part it out (what good parts it had left) than i had hoped. I just had a feeling i should pass on this one. But given that i live in Michigan, its hard enough to even find a parts car as it is!!! I hope something comes up some day. Sorry everyone.

Other than these misprints, was the rebuild quite successful with the book, "How to rebuild your datsun/nissan engine OHC" ? just curious, cause i am reaching towards the day when im going to rebuild my engine. And i had just purchased this book on amazon

This guy has Pm'd me and says he does not need anything he had dibs for any longer. Just letting you all know. As for everything else, getting the car is not 100% for sure yet. I will keep you posted though. Thank you greatly all those who are sincerely interested. As posted in the EDIT above, i will be checking the car asap. The 30th Saturday is looking promising as of right now.

That black and silver Datsun is golden. I love the 76' 2+2's, great looking car you got there.
-
That white interior is special! I would love to have that. Adds a very relaxing luxury sport feel definitely. If i could get my hands on that interior wow. As for the car, i don't see a car anymore let alone a Datsun.

Did your head hit the roof with the previous seats, just out of curiosity?
-
Actually, believe it or not, being 5'10'', i love sitting in the back seats and believe they are very comfortable. My car has amazing back seats because they are very like new as well! I dont know about a car ride lasting more than an hour, cause that definately would probably cause some superior cramping. I remember driving some friends (car loaded with 5 instead of hard to fit 4!) and my seat was pushed near all the way to the front. Boy was that a drive for me. It was do-able, but not eager to do that again at all. Though was a fun car ride. Saying only midgets will only fit back there, is truly not the case if the driver can spare some room. They are comfortable back seats by far!

Im sorry i dont understand, but how come the wheels are looking as if they are tilted outwards from the car? Like it has horrible suspension or something. Im unaware of any good reason for this right now, so i am just curious why they are like that.
-
Funny cause i had a friend at school whose front wheel came off of his truck. Almost wrecked the front end it slammed hard into the ground then was dragged to the side of the road, not sure who did that for him. I went home same day, and checked out my wheels, only one that was loose was the right front. Im just glad i had something to make me wanna check them.
-
lol, i have a lot of suspension issues to fix with my 82 280zx 2+2. The front end is all over the place. Needs new struts/springs all around, and the passenger front fender is slightly damaged. It also bent the strut a bit. I hope theres not much more damage than just the strut..I'll be finding out when i get some money and finally take off the wheels to replace suspension.

Looks like you got a lot of work ahead of you with this car. How much did you get it for? Also, ill be catching up with you with whether or not i can get you those interior parts. (you pm'd me a little while ago) Talk to you soon.

I love that paint on that silver car with blue stripes. It has a great spoiler on it as well. The red car im not so fond of. I hope i can achieve that level of greatness with my car someday.
-
I dont have the tools to cut off pieces nor would i be willing to try that. But thanks guys for the interest. Im going to check out the car as soon as i can, im waiting for a reply from the guy to come check it out the 30th, Saturday.
-
I was wondering if any of the Z community is in need of 79' 280zx parts, before i would go out to buy the car...... EDIT: The car was in more of a bad condition that i had hoped. It looked as if either this winter really took away the goodness from it (from the pictures) or these pictures are AT LEAST a year or 2, or 3 old. Thread mind as well be deleted as soon as some people who were interested in it get a view for themselves of the news. Sorry everyone. It was a miss.

I sincerely am stumped. I myself have blinker problems. But it comes and goes. I think it is just the blinker itself, and i was going to replace it sometime. My guess is it could be a faulty wire that may be going bad. Or another wire is cross connected with the blinkers and brake lights. Thus when you press the brakes, and they work, the blinkers get brighter because they are getting more electricity than suppose to. Check the wires again to all brake lights, head, and blinkers.
-
agreed, it does come with a price. i would rather buy a kit instead of just a piece, for around $600-$1000 though, thats just my feel. but if you've got money, by all means get it all! ;]
-
thats a ton. not willing to pay that much for an air dam. around $620 US...thats pricey wow.
-
hey thanks! yeah my battery cables look quite suspicious, and ive had trouble with them before as well till i tightened them up...and also the battery cables are rusty and look as if they NEED replacing, but they seem to work, so i was going to get to it as soon as i could. the battery itself on the other hand doesnt seem too bad, looks a little old, but it seems ok. i will get the battery tested sometime at auto zone. the fuel system pressure check seems a little hard to get to check, but i will research more exactly on what to do, and get some help from people too. one thing too, the size fit all cables, could you link me to a set of cables that arent "size fit all" and the correct ones i should get then?

have an 82' 280zx 2+2, the thing is, getting it started. heres the deal; i place key in ignition switch, turn to ON position, the 4 red lights come up such as seat belt... and i cant remember the other ones lol. all i know is the top left and top right dont come on. *top left is "sensor" back to the deal; the car does the check thingy, i have a headlight issue at the moment so it tells me my lights are f**kd (all red in the check light box) and then it says OK i turn the key to start, and it DOES NOTHING but shows the *sensor* light on the top left each time i turn to START position. Because it doesnt start, i keep turning to ON position, then START, REPEAT and REPEAT. until about the 50th time or close to it, maybe MORE, it finally turns over and starts. It wants to die unless i rev the engine a little bit and then stop revving the engine till it idles good on its own, but thats not the main problem. (more info)-sometimes i try turning to the on position where i can hear the fuel pump doing its job, and humms for about 5 seconds only, then i repeat and repeat and repeat because this seems to get my car to start faster if i do this a little before trying the start position. i dont suspect a fuel pump problem though, it does fine while driving i think...although it acts like it doesnt get very good acceleration, i suspect clogged fuel injectors? maybe this would be the problem to my starting problem? i used injector cleaner though and it didnt help... what could be causing this?! im 16, first car i worked hard for it and earned my first car.
