Pete makes an excellent point. Jim Pearl - AKA- BLKMGK is going through this very issue right now. His 1995 Toyota Supra was totalled back in July. He's STILL awaiting State Farm to cut him a check to settle the loss of the car, whose mods totalled well over $30K alone. GET good coverage for the car's intended purpose. READ ALL CLAUSES and MAKE sure you understand the coverages you purchased FOR THE CAR. Make sure that racing it at the track, doing lapping days on a road course, or time trials and autXs are covered as activities that won't VOID the claim. And above all else, if you have tens of thousands of dollars invested, research REPLACEMENT VALUE coverage. Mike

Traub83, This isn't free speech. You're free to "think" whatever you want. But I'd recommend reading the rules for this site. As we have stated in the past, rules are rules, and this is a new rule that has been mandated. If you want to talk politics or religion, go elsewhere. Mike

Just a gas mileage question with perfomance engine!!

Yup, It can be done, and Yup, Stotter is right. These cars look sleek... But aren't! My 99M6 C5 vette was knocking down well over 27mpg regularly with 335/353 to the wheels and with my lead foot...I expect to get close to that with about 80-100 more HP at the wheels with the new motor. Had a Mustang GT with a bunch of bolt ons and a T5 that was consistantly knocking down 26mpg with the wife driving. EFI is the only way to fly, and the most efficient! -
Ok Ok... Send it to me! Check your PM for an addy! Mike

Pete, You think it'll be done for the November FATT?? Mike

More often than not, you're better off to go to a parts store and spend about 25% more for a new, reman, or repro part that comes with a warranty. Mike

So I got a note from my tuner for the LS1 tune on my corvette. Seems he turned off the rear 02 sensors. I had been using the rears to feed the front bungs, as recommended by LGM for the header/ 02 sensor routing. Since he had the computer and new I wasn't going to run sensors to the rear ports, he turned them OFF! I've been running Left and right front banks with 02 SIMMS... ACK! So basically my car has had NO 02 sensor data, hence all the codes! Mike

Not your fault Mike! Les will get what's coming to him in the end... Bad Karma follows those who sew such bad seeds. Mike

Pete, I'm glad you and Glenn were ok, and no one else was injured... This car is one of the absolute cleanest cars I've ever laid eyes on and it breaks my heart to see the damage to it... Hope you get her buttoned back up soonest... Mike

We installed a custom 3 inch setup in Jim McNemar's car. It works but ground clearance is tight. He has a full cage and frame rails under the floor pans, as you explained in yours. JIm's wasn't made with a complete mandrel bend setup. Instead the idiots that did the work made it with all those nice little ripples in the pipes... We've got coil overs on his car and the stance is about right... Can't lay hands on it to measure from the frame rails, but I'm guessing we have about 3-3.5 inches to the ground from the bottoms of the rails. Mike

This is just another fine example of the good people that can be found on this site... Although I still hold it against Mike KZ for introducing me to Les Heath, who eventually disappeared with my Gnose and rear taillight panel/ custom rear wing!(Just kidding Mike! ) to Les Heath! Glad to see yet another member get face to face support from a senior member of this site. Mike

What number arte you shooting for? Mike

About 50# is a good round guess... Going away from stock bumpers and pumper struts will net you quite a bit of savings as well... One of the guys who was at the last cookout I hosted just weighed his 77 280Z w/ 280ZX turbo swap and he found his car to be a tad bit over 2900#... Hard to get these cars down in weight and still stay "street" friendly! Mike

...Is that it comes with its own OBD2 Scanner built into the DIC interface to the PCM... Codes codes codes... Man I pulled 27 codes from my car... many of them I'm sure have been there for many many months... Was able to get all of them to clear except two, and then drove it and got TWO more to show back up... The existing units I couldn't get to clear first: A6 SCM - B2606 HC A6 SCM - B2860 HC Both are related to the Active Handling and ABS... After driving the car and turning it off, the B2606 finally cleared, but the B2860 HC remained and will not clear. During the drive the code C1287 kicked again and the dreaded "Active Handling required Service/ Service Vehicle Soon" code popped up on the DIC. I've gone over everything and still can't get it to clear and stay gone... Wondering what I damaged when I pulled the drivetrain and zip tied the steering rack and ABS block up to the body of the car... While the car was idling and running in the garage I was cycling the A/C on and off, and I noticed the idle changed when it was off, and the car ran much worse, so I'd cycle it on and off until I got another code (too less than 2 minutes) which was P0134... This is for the left bank 02 Sensors... Wonder if I damaged a sensor when the motor went boom??? I'm sooooo confused! Ideas Guys??? Mike

I'd just be real sure it is the car you want... THe comments above are good sound advice... The only ray of hope I'd add is that some folks define "Driven Hard" at a less hard level than I. He may have used the NOS button once per month, or once per hour, who knows. For $3500-4000 I'd buy it because the hard part has been done. Swapping in another tranny means you'd want to pull the motor anyway, and would give you a chance to drop the pan and inspect the bearings if nothing else. Mike

THe kid builds a hell of a car, no doubt! Mike

Jody That is simply amazing. Car looks like it turned out well indeed. I'd try a 250# spring on the rear and see what happens... Also, Check with Scottie GNZ on the tires he used for his GNZ setup. He was able to get a lot of street time out of them and still get his buick swap into the 10s. Amazing. You did one hell of a job on that thing. Mike

Ed, Point was to actually donate to a local organization so we could be more assured that members we know and their local communities are assisted in the donations we collect. We can all give at will to whomever we want, but if we want to keep it associated with the "hybridZ" family, then maybe we should find out how our own members are doing in those affected areas and see if they have recommendations for donations more localized... Mike
-
Folks PLEASE GO HERE: http://www.hybridz.org/ Front page... There is a link for donations... PLEASE, If you can reach into your pockets and just donate a few dollars. Dan has set this account up and we're going to collect what we can for a Fund donation. This is by far the worst natural disaster we as a nation have felt. It breaks my heart to see the footage, as I'm sure it does yours. So please, these folks have NOTHING and will be displaced from homes and out of work for an unknown amount of time. So please give what you can. Mike Kelly

The admins have been discussing "WHAT" to do to contribute in a way that will benefit those in need. Our biggest concern is to make sure we don't just hand money over to the American Red Cross and not help specific members of our site. Not that we don't want to help "in general". Most of us have already donated money to the organizations. I'll be on vacation in North Carolina all next week, and not sure if I have internet access or not. However, Dan is on top of this and will set something up for those who want to contribute. Mike

Just back from the maiden voyage...

I thought that cycling the ignition would do it, but I did that about 10 times while out on my trip, stopping to check underhood and coolant (Burping it just to be safe!) and nothing seemed to work... I'm hoping the whole hesitation and poor running was the car failing into limp home mode... Mike -
First the good... THing PULLS (or Did! ) like a freight train in 6th gear, making it actually a usable gear. I'm truly impressed with how well it was running. Strong everywhere and it certainly felt like I had an additional 75-100 HP and gobbs more torque! However, I never took it past 4K Rpms... Getting there was fun and fast... Now the bad... Got a check engine light, and a "Service Active Handling System" code for it at the mid point on my 50+ mile drive. On the last 10 miles coming back the car didn't want to idle and was having intermittent running/ FI/ Ignition issues... Gonna get a code scanner and see what is up when I get back from Vacation. Mike

You guys are just feeding the stereotype... I've owned a MUSTANG GT that had a BUNCH of Cobra parts on it... I'm a Vette owner, and don't own a sinlge gold chain, and require a friggin' diamond file to get the grease out of the fingernails, and I've hjad a Datsun in the driveway since I was 22 and I'm now 39... PuhLEASE! Quit being elitist pricks and get on board with being car guys.,. Nect you'll be talking about how I bastardized my Zcar by putting a 383 stroker in it! Mike

Alex Gives good advice... Heed it. I'll get another bike, but it won't likely be a sport bike, which will be a sport bike... To damned much trouble... Mike

The coil pack on the passenger side was "flipped". The 1998 valve covers don't require the coil pack bracket... So you unclip them and everything goes crazy! We're expecting 400WHP. Mike
