  1. BIngo Pop... I worked in south east DC at the Navy Yard for YEARS and had panhandlers come up to me all the time and hussle me for money... Anyone who has met me face to face knows that ain't gonna happen, to the point that I'll become the aggressor and rock them back on their heels... There's a difference in being down and out and panhandling... BIG difference... Lots of missions that could use $100 donation, as well as many many shelters across the country... THOSE are legitimate and THOSE need help! Merry Xmas, and do what you can to help a family, man, woman or especially a child in need... Mike
  2. http://www.carputing.com will hook you up with the software to tune all LS1 and LS6 motors... And you're wrong when it comes to tuning the LS1/ LS6 motors... Of course, you have nothing to base your assumptions on, so I understand... The new generation of ECU based powerplants can handle A LOT of motor mods while retaining DEAD Accurate smooth idle, still knock down 26-28MPG and hammer 450+ at the wheels when tuned properly. It is ALL in the tuning with that software... If I could unload my NEW/ Yet to be installed 383 Stroker, I'd take my OTHER LS1 motor (Currently in my vette) and do a heads cam swap into it and freshen its bearings and rings, throw it in the Z with a custom bellhousing and my GForce T5. The LS1/6 motor was built for torque and I personally think that anything over 400HP will be a handfull to drive. When you add the 86 pound weight loss of the LS motor, then you're really talking fun! About two weeks ago a buddy brought his freshly tuned Heads/Cam Z06 by for a quick spin. His cam is MUCH more radical than mine will be, and his heads are ported and have a tad bigger valve. He's turning 486HP at the wheels... Car runs and sounds dead stock until you hit the gas. Because it is an electric lemans blue 2003 Z06, everyone who doesn't know C5s thinks it is bone stock. However, one ride in it will tell you this thing is a MONSTER! Before the mods, his motor laid down 362HP and 374#Ft. of torque. NOW he is pushing well over 100 additional HP with those simple bolt ons AND he had to pass emission right after it was tuned, which he did... and Virginia is a pain when it comes to emissions testing... He passed with flying colors using 112 LS split duration high lift cam! Get an LS6, and put some nice headers (May have to get customs made to fit the Z chassis) and a custom cam in it with a CAI and some custom computing, and you'll be into the 400+ Wheel HP range with ease... Mike
  3. Well here is the liberal in me coming out... This country is full of opportunity and prosperity for some... But not everyone is lucky enough to get the break, or have that one shot to prove that they have what it takes to make a living, and get that job, just a shot... I've known a couple of people who simply were kicked and kicked and had one bad break after another until they were literaly on the street. It can happen, and it does... Sure there are the stereotypes who work the system, have no desire to leave the streets, and are content at being homeless... But lets make no mistake, There are LOTS of unfortunate and unhappy folks who are homeless and looking for that break. Unless you've been on that slide towards the streets (And I have come close ONCE!), you can't comprehend how quickly it happens and everything goes south... All I'm saying is, if you haven't walked in those shoes... Mike
  4. Correct, the LS7 Motor will NOT be available for at least 10 months. I'd not expect you'll get it even then and it will be quite a bit more than the LS6 Z06 motor... Honestly the LS6 will make 500HP VERY easily, and my LS1 custom built with forged bottom end bits and arp hardware will see 500Crank HP for quite a bit less than $6000. Mike
  5. EXCELLENT Deal on a 2002 Z06 Motor HERE: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=973345 Mike
  6. OK, Those of you who have met my wife... DO NOT LAUGH... I am getting my wife some gift certificates for clothing to the tune of about $600 (I gave up on buying cloths for her myself, since finding sizes that FIT someone so small has become impossible!), a new Cam Corder (WE'll both use it) AND I'm paying for Lipo for her in January... My wife is five feet tall weighs about 103# (That is not a typo) and other than this small Tummy bulge, still has the body of a 16 year old... However, this tummy bulge has completely ruined her confidence in her appearance... Child birth X2 has finally caught up after 17 years. Silly to some, but I live with her and getting to see her disrobed is an ordeal lately... Turn out the lights and all is fine... Keep them on and she ain't undressing! Merry, happy and all that... Mike
  7. Call Paul Cangialosi at 561-743-5600 Paul Cangialosi http://www.5speeds.com Creators of the JT5 5 speed He hooked me up with TWO custom trannies for the SCarab project for Jim and for my own project, and the cost was about $1840 each. You pick the setup, the gears, the syncro types, the input, main, and output shafts, and he builds it for your application. Mike
  8. Unless you go with a custom transmission like the Richmond ROD6 speed or a Custom T56, I just don't think the T56 is that good a transmission, primarely because of the stupid TWO overdriven top gears... I had one in my 383 stroker setup and was never able to use 6th gear. Also, Why have TWO overdriven top gears... 5th should be 1:1... Contact Paul Cangialosi at 561-743-5600. http://www.5speeds.com Creators of the JT5 5 speed He is the guy building my custom five speed and can build you a custom six speed for about what you would have in doing a regular T56 conversion with a better gear selection and for LESS weight, which is the OTHER big complaint I have about the T56... 140+ Pounds NOT including the flywheel, and clutch kit. Mike
  9. BTW, Saw the pics you posted of your Malibu in the other thread... That car ROCKS... I love that body style! Mike
  10. KNowing what I know now about GMC/Chevy and the NEW 5.3, I'd have opted for the newer powerplant, since it is a LOT more like th Vette setup... The 2001-2002 model is making 320-ish HP with excellent torque and GREAT gas mileage... I was being cheap when I bought my 98, and I love it because of the 3rd door and 4X4, but would have bought more truck had I known then what I know now. I paid $12000 for my 98 with 90K miles on it, loaded with Western step rails and a GM bedliner. Could have bought a 2001 with half the miles for about $17-20K. Love my truck... But the new GMC/ Chevy R-O-C-K-S! Mike
  11. I'm a Chevy man... My last GMC Full size stepside Lowrider had 270K+ miles on it when I traded it in on my 98 Chevy 4X4 Silverado/ Z71. They last, and I'm hard on my vehicles! Mike
  12. The LS6 block is a bit stronger with better webbing.. Not a must, but if you are buying a new motor, Stronger is better... Also the heads flow more and the cam is a little more aggressive! You're also guaranteed to get the LS6 intake... The deal is finding one out of a totalled Z06... Then you 405HP with it! As for trannies, Contact Paul at GForce and chat about your tranny options... Since you have a larger budget, don't go with a standard T56... they weigh so much more than justifies the need in these cars! I'm using a Custom Super strong T5 with my conventional V8, but I know that a couple of bellhousing makers are making an adapable bellhousing (Lakewood is one of them I think) that works with a standard tremec setup! Mike
  13. Bill, were looking at 2001-2002 3.2CLs for the wife right now... I've been through BMWs, C Class Mercedees, and Volve S class cars... We're now looking at Acuras! Looks good, man! Mike
  14. As the others mentioned, Welcome... Please go read the rules of the road so you can best uderstand why we are here, and how we operate... We're truly like no other site on the web, which sometimes gets new members into trouble early on... And NO, You've done nothing wrong, but we just like to catch new members early and try to get them up to speed sooner, rather than later... And thank you for serving our country! Mike
  15. Right, and doing the mod for it is cake... I'd not let that one worry you. If you have the ability to weld, just weld the L bracket in place, instead of drilling the holes as recommended in the manual. I can't recommend enough to BUY THE JTR BOOK before you dive in... Lots of answers in there... As to if the car handles well or not, Just search here and ask away... Lots of guys out there with excellent handling V8 Zs! Go with aluminum heads, intake and water pump and you will have a nice lightweight package that will be within 40# of the inline six motor. Mike
  16. Jon, Used to be the case... But now there is a push in congress, through the morally right leaning, to get CABLE Regulated as well... I'm with you in regards to radio vs. TV.. As many shock jocks have stated over and over again, if you don't like what they say, turn the channel, but that isn't the case anymore... FCC is WAY out of line, which is why some of attorneys representing some of the radio personalities out there are now investigating the special interest organizations behind the bulk of the complaints... As an independant, This really peaves me to no end. Mike
  17. Hmmm... John's Cars makes mounts for the LS1 setup, but I hear rumor that JTR will be making something soon as well, or maybe they have released something already... At any rate, I would think making your own would be cake if you are at all good with fabrication. Several guys here are successfully running the LS1/LS6 in their Zs, and I think it is absolutely the way to go... If I could sell my 383 Stroker and break even, I'd put the exisitng LS1 in my Z when the new motor goes into the vette. As for mods... I'd look into some of the packages out there for cams. I chose the thunder racing kit because of its proven reputation. Obviously you want to get an LS6 motor if you can, but if not, get the intake and TB. Beyond that, these motors are really responsive to tuning... I'd get a copy of LS1 Edit and plan to tune your PCM when all is set... Real easy to make 450-475 flywheel HP! Mike
  18. Every since Janet Jackson lost her top at last year's Superbowl, we've suffered a LOT more oversite on radio and TV by a very heavy handed FCC. However, Recent investigation into WHO is filing complaints to the FCC uncovered a special interest group who filed over 75% of the claims against the NFL for the most recent Monday night football fiasco, as well a a reality TV series (I think it was American Family) where an episode took the cameras into a strip club... Mind you NOTHING was specifically shown, and all exposed private areas were fussed out, but still the complaints rolled in. Why do I care? Well I'm all for keeping children away from offensive material, but here is the problem... A special interest group lodged an overwhelming majority of these claims, steering the FCC into action to investigate the complaints, most in the form of mass emailing from a few kep people in the groups organization. The current policy for FCC regulation and monitoring requires the FCC to investigate every single complaint about "offensive" material of any kind that is broadcast on airwaves and depending on the type of broadcast, as well as hours of broadcast. Some Cable channels get a wave, and radio gets a reasonable reprieve after 10PM. However, Prime time viewing on the big four is still held under a microscope, with attention being turned towards cable tv to "Get clean" as well... Do YOU want some Right wing or left wing special interest group dictating what material is offensive to them to be forced on ALL of us? Again, I'm all for keeping offensive material away from children, but I'm not for some special interest group coming in and taking over where I, the parent should be DOING MY JOB without THEIR help... The republican party has gotten a lot of grief over this, and I can see why... they haven't stepped in to help the FCC steer in a more BALANCED direction. Anyone who has had to work with the FCC for anything related to Spectrum managment can tell you that the FCC is one of the most mismanaged and poorly run offices in the federal government (I've had to several times in relations to some of the work I do). So, Do you want a special interest group defining what is offensive and what isn't? NO? Then contact your representative or congressman and tell them to REFORM the FCC... This isn't about Howard Stern or Janet Jackson... It is about fair and balanced regulation of broadcast media in America! Mike
  19. I actually feel sorry for the restroom you will be violating when that concoction kicks in! Too FUNNY! Mike
  20. I had a T56 six speed in the last car, and I've chosen to go with the GForce Custom T5 five speed with hardened input/ main/ output shafts and custom gearing... The are pricey, but VERY lightweight, which is the big complaint I had with the 140+# T56... Which climbs quickly to over 190# when you add the weight of the flywheel/ clutch assembly! The GForce we built is rated at 600Ft Pounds of torque and cost about $1840, including the Steeda Triax shifter. Mike
  21. Its a 99 C5 M6 with some bolt ons.. No heads and cam on this motor, But I've got another one being built. It will have ported heads with big valves and a thunder racing cam setup 224/224 556 with 114 LSA... Should be a fun ride... Ran into trouble with the fitment into my existing XR1 Race pipes, so it looks like I'll be selling that setup... Mike
  22. Installing the LGM Long tubes and SLP cats today... Got everything appart and ready to install the new headers, but first I'm going to run to the store and pick up some fresh NGK TR55s and a serpantine belt for it and have the alternator tested... Installed the LS6 intake and TB three nights ago, along with a shaner ported throttlebody and coolant bypass kit... Hope to pick up a few more ponies with the 3 inch exhaust, high flow cats, and 1 3/4 primary long tubes! Fun Fun FUN! Mike
  23. Also check the area around the TC boxes where the TC rods bolt into the frame... I've seen those separate. Mike
  24. Fronts in that pic are 245s, but you could do front 255s with Jamie's Custom aluminum hub with 240Z offset. You might get away with a 255 with a little negative camber and rolling the fender lip on the fronts... Without it there is a little extention past the fender when using the 300ZX hub. Mike
