Strut Mount MonoBall Top plate design idea...
Mikelly replied to Mikelly's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Bill, you would be able to do this at every corner... A monoball is a heim joint with out the threaded section. The ball sits in a race, and that assembly slides into a sleeve to be welded into place... Pics will be up soon enough...About 6 hours... Mike -
2003 Cobra Wheels are On
Mikelly replied to speeder's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I'm a huge fan of the Exsta MX... Wet traction is impressive, so you'll be happy with them for general use... I know of a couple corvette guys who run them on the track at Summit for cheap "Track" tires. I think the rating is a 220 so they aren't gucci sticky tires, but they work for day to day driving... Rick those wheels look awesome... thanks for the weight report... I'm bouncing between those and some BBS wheels. mike -

NOTE FROM ADMINISTRATOR... Please Post your question in ONE area only... I deleted the other TWO posts for this SAME problem... Thanks! mike 8)

So a couple months back I was looking in my local SCP catalog and saw some monoball assemblies with the steel sleeve (1 3/4inch) and all parts. I ordered some and was playing around with an idea to make my own top mounts that would do away with the rubber isolator and give you an additional 2 inches of travel in the stroke of the strut assembly, in essence, doing away with the need to section the strut. You could actually gain even more, depending on how you position the steel sleeve... However, a couple of questions and an issue or two... Two ways to mount this unit are to either make a bolt in plate the strut assembly could bolt to and then bolt the plate to the tower, similar to the factory design (But more work) OR you could use the sleeve for the monoball assembly (Which is completely servicable with a removable C clip from the underside) inside the strut housing itself, welded into the strut tower, which I'm seriously thinking about doing... What say You??? If I go the plate/ bolt in route, I have fabricated one unit using 16 gage steel for the plate, based on the thickness of the metal on the strut isolator from the factory unit... Think this is thick enough??? I do, but thought I would throw it out there. The other issue is the diameter of the Tokico strut unit itself... the ID of these monoballs that came with the "Kit" is .75 and the strit OD is .80. After talking to Ground Control, I broke out my sander and an abrassive pad and removed some material so the mono ball could sit on one of my struts just fine. Looks a little ruff, but the guys at GC said it would be more than sufficient and directed me to notes in their website where they advise this might be required when using custom top mounts... Question is if any of you know of sources for Metric Sized Spherical rod ends and Heim joints... SO, I've sent Doug some pics to put up, and I'll have more of an idea of how I'm doing this in the coming days, but I'd like feedback on this idea from you guys... My mock up and test fit showed a full two inches of travel was gained on this mock up on a front strut... And I was conservative in mocking it up. I could have gained almost another full inch in the front! Mike

I'd plan to upgrade it to the TPI instead of the TBI... I've got the TPI unit in a box right now, and I'm planning on at minimum 1000CFM and 42#injectors (Which are big for me) for my 383 stroker. The unit you're looking at will be maxing at 350-ish HP...Get on Chevytalk and hit their FI section.. the holleytech is ussually there answering questions... Mike

Is there a federal/state law on ammo I can stockpile?

Plain and simple... And this will NOT make me popular... WIPE THEM OUT... I don't care to know the number of collateral losses... I'll sleep better at night, but honestly at this point, if his own "People" back him, then they don't back us... WIPE THEM OUT Starting With Pakestan and move West... Kill them all, let Allaah sort them out... Virgins for everyone, right? So what's the problem? Mike 8) -
Welcome to my hell... For the last three months my cable connection has been down as much as it has been up... I pay $130 month for the "WHOLE" digital/ HDTV/cable internet package and I am close to unpluging it and turning it in... When it works, it is FABULOUS. When it doesn't... It flat DOESn'T and I'm cut off and can't view any higher end channels or pay channels... What's a girl to do? Mike

I didn't notice issues with heat on brake lines with my 383 Stroker... But you could always run a DEI Sleeve if you have issues... Doug said you made out real well with the trade! Mike

Joe, If it is a real roller, I'd certainly replace the fuel lines with something more significant, and I'd replace all the brake valving in the engine compartment. Check the rest for corrosion and if they are in good shape then leave them. If not, Let me know and I can get you NEW replacements at reasonable prices. It will keep the metrics the same and the pre-bent lines are one less thing to deal with! Mike 8)

Somebody have a single 280Z strut housing they can send me? I need it to cut sections out of... Seems the race cartridges Ross got from Koni will NOT fit into my 240Z housings I was gonna use as replacements for the sectioned strut episode... I need one to cut sections out of to extend the originals Ross sent me. Somebody save my bacon here... Mike 8)

The Ford MUstang Cobra pattern is 5X4.5 (Metric is 5X 114.3) and the Chevy is 5X4.75! Mike -

Pete, You will get NO WHERE by talking facts with this subject... Those who HATE Bush do NOT want to hear facts... Do a search and read facts posted here, and elsewhere by smart guys like yourself, and then read the responses... Sad really... No, it is much like sitcom television... Reality makes to much sense, so lets ignore it and listen to the media... they WON'T lie! I'm with you Pete, Lets MOW THE F'ers down... These same "extremists" were in Afghanistan, have been in Chechenya, were present in Mogadishu, and Bosnia... And they use the Muslim faith as their camoflage. We need to hunt them down and kill them where they live or where they are... Be it on a College Campus in Berkley, California or in some spiderhole in Iraq. The liberal left would rather we hold hands and sing songs and "Talk and negotiate" and mend fences with the rest of the world... SCREW THAT... These people are evil and want US AMERICANS DEAD! You are either FOR the protection of the united states of america and its constitution, or you are not... And if you are not, then you need to pack the hell up and get the hell out... Plain and simple... We have 18 year old kids over there fighting for our causes and MAKING a positive difference EVERY DAY, only to have the media spin and turn Iraq into a "Failure Campaign". JUST ONCE I'd like for the positive interviews with servicemen and women over there broadcast so people HERE could see the good we are doing over there... for every "Failure" broadcast by the media there are So So many good successes done by our boys and girls over there... Talk to any soldier who is or has been there and they will tell you first hand how sad it is that the TRUTH isn't being told. No Pete, The media sells us lies, and those who choose to hunt out the truth, and reality, they are the smart ones... The rest are just sitting in a field munching clover... Baahhhaaaahahaaaaa... Having had personal experience with a bad crate motor from Bowtie Performance in Bristol, Va. I can honestly say that you need to check and research the vendor... Make sure the motor is THE LAST THING you buy... If you are going to do this project all at once, there is no reason to buy a crate motor that comes with a 12 month/ 12,000 mile warranty, to have it sit in the corner of the garage and expire while you build the car... My crate 383 stroker had less than 3K miles on the clock when the oil pump cavetated due to a broken pickup tube. This caused failure and serious stress on some of the bearings. Make a plan, do it in phases and stick to it... I'd personally make the motor and tranny the last big ticket purchases for the project and buy them when you are within a couple weeks of installing them. 8) And as Tim pointed out... SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH! We've been up and running for several (We're pushing 5 years! ) years and there is a TON of data here for you to read. Mike 8)

What is your Top Speed. On or Off Track.
Mikelly replied to v80z's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Look Brandon, Not sure where you come from, or what your background is... But we do have some rather intelligent people on this site who are REAL engineers for a living... and even a few of NASA's Rocket scientists contribute here... So you're going to have to back up your claims with some facts... I've personally driven my Z at well over 150mph with ZERO issues... A BONE STOCK Z with a BONE STOCK suspension will get floaty at anything over 110. But lets face facts... Throwing on some lowering springs, a front spoiler and rear spoiler, and you can significantly calm things down. Add some stiff bushings and proper alignment and it is VERY safe and stable at speed. So I suppose next you will tell me that IF I lift my helmet outfrom under my windscreen on my ZX9R, that I'll be blown off my Motorcycle at 140mph... Seriously, not trying to bust chops to hard, but you have to back your comments up with facts... I hate to ask, but Are you an engineer (As your sign in indicates) and do you own a Z? Next question is HAVE you driven it on the salt flats, and on roads at speeds above 90mph? Mike 8) -

I'm all for freedom of speech, but allah help the FOOL who puts his or her hands on me over MY political beliefs and opinions... Had an individual in a somewhat frank discussion raise his voice and curse at me, then attempt to spit at me a few years back, at a house party, where people were supposed to be friends... All this after someone told him what I did for a living... I had to pay for some broken furniture mysteriously damaged on the way to evicting that individual from my sight and the hosts house... Not good to let a drunk try to play tough guy when he is over his head and out of his league. Like I said before... We're ALL in titled to our opinions.. when it gets personal or physical, all bets are off... Mike 8) -
The reason import sports cars have a bad image, epitomized
Mikelly replied to MrWOT's topic in Non Tech Board
Sadly, he is... I live about 30 minutes south of him and this little stunt MADE THE NEWS locally... This kid, and others like him should NOT be driving... What's worse is this is HIS 3RD accident in a relatively short period of time. Why does he even HAVE SUCH A CAR with a record like that? Damn, I'm so glad I'm not his father... I'd be in jail for whipping some ass... Mike -
I have a set... Don't ask how I came to have them, but Dave sent a set to me, and BOY ARE THEY A FRIGGIN' WORK OF ART! I know a thing or two about control arms, and these are the absolute BEST design I've seen... What also strikes me is the use of metric parts throughout so the factory hardware can be utilized. VERY impressive... AND they are ON CAR adjustable for toe settings... Still have to unbolt them for the camber settings... But these are indeed sweet... Can you tell I'm impressed? Mike
-
Nope... in my area it is a VOLUNTEER Rescue Squad that relys on public and private funding... I was very happy to have them... But no, my insurance didn't pay a DIME of that ride... It did cover my emergancy room visit. My point in my last two posts is to show opposing views... I kinda get tired of hearing how much everything in this country sucks and how people don't appreciate how good it really is... Could it be better? Sure... Could it be worse? Head south to Mexico City for 6 months and then come tell me how bad we have it. Mike

Well what Nissan did was take an existing platform (Infinity G35) and use it for their needs... Which was OK, but could have been used to better meet the needs of MAKING it LOOK more like an UPDATED first Gen Z instead of an updated version of the 2nd Gen 300ZX. Not sure what happened... I like it as is, as I guess it has grown on me, and I've seen a few (Especially the Blue color) that look OK... But I still argue My money would go towards a pre-owned C5 Corvette over a NEW 350Z ANY DAY... Which is EXACTLY what I did! Mike
