Modern Motorsports vs. Arizona Z car?
Mikelly replied to Floorless240z's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Floorless, I'm busting chops... Point was there are a ton of options out there... Did you go to the link I posted? I've got two different sets of wheels on two decidedly different Zcar projects to give you an idea... Mike 8) -
YUp. Bought some of these last year for my project... Glad they weren't a waste... Mike 8)

In a perfect world, or in person, hanging out BSing, having a beer, and shooting the poop, where facial expressions are as much a part of the discussion as the info being related, this would all be fine and good... However, we're in the world of text, and we've got a number of years under our belts doing this thing called moderating on HybridZ... We get it right most of the time... The percieved tone was what concerned me, and obviously by the response from Pop, it wasn't taken as lightly as YOU might think Freedom... I'm on your side in this debate, but I still have a job to do, and I'm not gonna allow a flame fest to start, so if that upsets you, then tough. Bottom line is I am NOT gonna have someone later on accuse me of siding with someone for my political or other beliefs... We don't run that kinda ship here... You guys don't have a clue the tons of hatemail we get from people over hot topics like this and others, or when someone steps out of line and offends another member, or group of members, so yea, I might have reacted prematurely, but I won't apoligize for it... the tone was percieved as something less than friendly... and I still say as moderation goes, our batting average for dealing with things before they become a real issue are pretty darned good... Anyone See Kerry on the Late Show? Could he have looked more uncomfortable? Why did they force him to do all those one liners? The idea for showing up on a show like that was for viewers to SEE him and hear him... Having him read the top 10 was LAME and you could tell he was uncomfortable doing it... Mike

Pop, The comment wasn't to you, And Freedom Fighter, Not being foolish... We've got rules... Use them... No exceptions... It's called respecting your fellow members of the board... You know, like calling someone a fool... Remember guys, let's leave emotion at the door on topics such as this, and deal with reason and fact... Mike

Modern Motorsports vs. Arizona Z car?

You should seriously do a LOT more research on this topic... American Racing Wheels? I had a set of the 2002 model Cobra R wheels on my Flared Z... You can see them here... http://photos.yahoo.com/dat74z RONAL, CCW, BBS, ASC, Fittipaldi, you name it, there are a TON of high end wheels for the Newer mustang market... They seem to have something nissan doesn't... Support from the aftermarket... So I'd do some research and pick a wheel you like and go from there! Mike 8) -
THERE IS NO NAME CALLING ON THIS WEBSITE. Freedomfighter I suggest you go back and CLEAN UP your post... We've come a long way on this particular topic, remaining civil and keeping the discussion lively... if you cannot play within those confines, then don't play, simple as that... Upgrading to the 5 lug conversion most of us have done would be the SMARTEST thing you could do to assist you in updating wheel choices. We're talking less than $300 in parts, and a little labor to get into the world of the Mustang/ 300ZX bolt pattern, which has a TON of wheel choices from there... Mike 8) -
Gee, I wonder who the parents of the poor abducted men would pick as the more effect fighters of this horrible conflict? Mike

It had to be modified, regardless of who made it... I can personally attest to the fact that a Hyabussa WILL NOT hit more than 186 MPH bone stock... Mike -

Regarding the PBR calipers... I just bought a set of the CURRENT version calipers from a Corvette Forum member for $140 SHIPPED for the complete set of FOUR calipers... After doing this latest track event in my Vette, I'm not so sure a HUGE rotor combo on a Z is really that needed... The vette weighs 400-800# more than a Z, and with PBR calipers, track pads (Hawk HP+), good hitemp fluid and excellent brake ducting, I had ZERO issues with fade on Summit Point, which is known for being tough on brakes... a 12 inch rotor, good fluid/ Pads, and proper ducting should be sufficiant for a Z. I believe there are other options out there, and if you are willing to do a little of your own leg work, you could save hundred off these prices. Regardless who you go with, make sure the vendor meets YOUR timeline. Ask when a specific vendor will ship the parts or if they are currently on backorder... Having been a small vendor, I can tell you that one of lifes many instances can deraille a good days (Or WEEKS) worth of orders. 8) Communicate with the vendor you choose, so your expectations meet theirs, and vise versa... Tannji, You mean, out it IN context? But it is soooo much more fun and has soooo much more punch when taken OUT of context... Kind of like broadcast journalism.... Kevin, are you moonlighting for NPR? I kid... I'm a kidder... I kill me! Mike

Thank you Mr. Clinton for single handedly dis-arming America and forcing its military personnel into foodstamps and welfare lines... Gutting our National Intelligence resources and opening our borders to people who wish nothing more than to see the downfall of the greatest nation on the planet. Mike 8)

'ER, Uh, ummm Kevin, Ever hear of Buzz words??? New world order was being thrown around just like "global Warming", "net-centric", "horozontal fusion" and any number of other catch phrases... You can read into anything and make of it what you wish. In the end, what do you really have? My wife has this opinion that we waste our time voting, because the decision has been made before the candidates are picked, so why bother! Maybe you to should chat! MIke 8)

If the motor wasn't built with a peeky cam and poor vacuum, then you should be fine... I drove mine in Washington DC Beach weekend gettaway traffic with NO issues... Was it loud when I hit the go pedal? Sure! Was it fast? YOU BET... But it was VERY controllable. If he has built it properly, you should be fine! Mike 8) -

I don't like it because it is NOT internally balanced... I've done a bit of research and I believe that if you are going to build a SBC, Build it internally balanced from the beginning.. Special thanks to Grumpy, Dave Williams, and Mr. Vizard for changing my mind on this issue, because 8 years ago I would have blown it off as insignificant... Not so.. And the cost isn't much more for the added balance of the assembly and it extends the life of the reciprocating parts... 8) Ben, My 93 GMC's crank was a cast factory steel crank and it came out in two pieces... This truck was a TBI 2 bolt main truck, with factory motor... When we pulled the motor, I was amazed when the crank came out in two pieces. Mike -
I'm thinking the POR15 is gonna seperate and allow the matting to delaminate from the sheetmetal... I'll do what Tim suggested... POR15 is a product I'll not use again... The stuff is very unpredictable... Their metalprep is the only stuff I'll buy from them. Mike 8)

Terry, I was thinking the same thing... Russ, you might be re-doing your work on that cowl... Please elaborate... Mike 8)

So Kevin, I assume the Republican National convention got your donation? I've got my own opinions about Carr and his writtings, but they aren't as positive as yours... Kevin, I know that you buy in to a LOT of these theories, but in my opinion, most of them are a stretch, and most certainly feed off the "7 degrees of seperation" theory of building a good conspiracy... I find life to be much more entertaining than fiction, but to each his own! Mike

Tannji, I know you are correct... However, it would be interesting to pull everyone home, sit on the sidelines for a year and SEE how the rest of the world screws themselves into oblivian... We are a nation with good intentions, while guarding our own interests, and our own populous can't seem to grasp the situation for what it is... There is no "Fixing" this... Mike 8)

I don't think that is a JTR conversion... Look at the Distributor location and the factory hood latch... Although I'd agree with Syliconboy... The car looks clean other than the fender and you could make the JTR conversion failry easily... I'm getting ready to convert a REAL SCARAB into a JTR car for a member here next weekend and I'll be taking lots of pics... I'd buy it for what he is asking... Clean car! Just be aware that suspension and brake upgrades will be required if he doesn't have them done already! $6000 Canadian, Sooooo That's what , about $56.32? Mike -
Moridin, Post all the links you want, but as we all know, the media isn't your friend, my friend or the CIA's friend... The media posts information inaccurately for their own means, they post remarks out of context and are not concerned with facts... WAS Osama in Afghanistan during the war with Russia? I suppose he was... Were we assisting the insurgence IN afghanistan? Yes. Beyond that, I can't tell you anything else... But that does NOT mean we singled out Osama Bin Ladden and trained him. But to say we trained him so he couild eventually attack us is increadibly short sited. We deal with the international situations as they are at the time, and can NOT account for what a group, or country (CUBA?) does after we assist them in their time of crisis. Sometimes things work out well for us, and sometimes they don't. Michael, I'm more than familiar with our constraints as civil service employees... But we have several thousand members on this site and THEY could certainly begin a new political party, or back an existing one, in order to make PEACEFUL and REAL change, rather than pissing and moaning on some BB on the internet. I'm all for packing it in, bringing the troops home, and sealing our borders, enforcing the existing laws on our books and letting people into the country who come in by legal means... Lets do it... I think the rest of the world community need to step up and pull their own weight. Mike 8)

It all depends on the parts... some guys have built low HP 383s by matching the wrong parts. Others have built strong motors... My 260Z turned 10.98s in the 1/4 during the first build and it wasn't the best build... I expect even better performance out of my new motor, but again, tuning, break-in and assembly will dictate that. We are estimating over 500 Crank HP in my current motor. Mike -
Here is some info for you guys to chew on further... Three KEY cases created the groundswell that eventually caused the "Assault Weapons Ban" to become law... On July 18, 1984 in San Ysidro, California James Huberty killed 21, and injured another 19 using an UZI semi-automatic assault weapon, a 9mm Browning pistol and a 12 gauge Winchester shotgun. On January 17, 1989 Patrick Edward Purdy's assault on a Stockton, California school yard left five dead and 29 wounded. He used an AK47 Type assault weapon and a Taurus 9mm Pistol. He killed himself as police were arriving on the scene. On October 16, 1991 George Hennard assaulted a Luby's cafe in Killeen Texas. He drove his truck through the front of the building, got out with a Glock 17 and a Ruger P89. Both pistols carried high capacity magazines, and both were HAND GUNS. Hennard shot and killed 22 people, and wounded 23 others in the process... Again, he turned one of the guns on himself when police closed in. Couple these incidents with the rash of Postal worker attacks by Patrick Sherrill, Joseph Harris and Thomas Mcilvane In Oklahoma (1986), New Jersey and Michigan (Both in 1991), and you get a sense that thte country was becoming unsettled with an "armed" society. The media did everything in their powers to bleed these stories to the hilt in order to get their liberally based agendas pushed to the forfront of political attention. Unfortunately Bush Senior and the NRA/ Religios right did EXACTLY what they should not have done... In effect, becoming emotional over the subject and not defending our 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms. The media drove this debate, citing the above key cases, and ussually painting all the participants of those crimes as "Upstanding citizens" until the pressures of life caught up to them... BULL HOCKEY! All six individuals hilited above had serious emotional and mental issues that were recorded, known and none of them should have been allowed to own weapons... However, protection by family members, lies, and a system that NEEDS REFORM, simply overlooked these six men. SO, Six tragedies make a case for BANING anything? See, here is where I can't align myself with the left, when it comes to gun control... You can't throw the baby out with the bath water in dealing with cases such as these... You single out those involved, assign MAXIMUM punishment on them for preying upon fellow humans, and you move on... Accountability for individual actions is what fixes problems such as "Gun" control... If Bubba has something to lose (And he does), then bubba is going to get legal to own his guns, so he doesn't lose his trailer, his 4x4, his huntin' dogs, and his little slice of land he works hard for... BUBBA isn't the guy skirting laws to OWN his guns. Bubba is the guy who the 2nd amendment was intended for. Bubba is the guy who would stand up and defend the country in case of an attack. He is the same guy who rushed to the Clock Tower at UT in Austin, Texas when Charles Whitman started his attack on August 1st, 1966. Bubba is the guy who fired back with his hunting weapons, trying to help law enforcement fend off the attacker. As a society we must start to place full accountability on individuals for their actions. Nothing in life, nothing in this free society of ours comes free. We must hold ourselves, our citizens, our populous accountable for their actions, if we are ever to have a truly free functioning society. Mike 8)
